Is any one else having a problem with the silicone on this case? mine seems to be stretching and it is starting to get enjoying, it is at the point that it there is a gap around the screen, and the lower corners don't go in no more without lifting the back...

I've noticed some stretching as well. Especially around the top of the front, where the silicone meets the black area covering the camera, earpiece and prox. sensor. I also have it on the back of the case where it's actually getting "baggy"...sagging completely away from the hard inner case. I'm going to contact Otterbox to see what they say about it.

how badly does the silicone attract dirt and dust? i work in a dirty environment, and my main reason for getting this case, is dust protection (along with impact). regardless of how well it protects the phone from dust, im not gonna be too happy if there is dirt allover my case all the time.

The blue and red are much better at not attracting lint than the black. It apparently has something to do with the process of coloring the silicone that makes it much smoother and far less tacky than regular black silicone. The black silicone used is a lint magnet. The blue I have picks up hardly any dust/lint, and is easy to get out of a pants pocket.

I just got my i4 yesterday after ordering it through the Apple website. It took just under 3 weeks, but I didn't mind waiting. What I did was purchase a black Defender case prior to ordering the i4 so that when the phone does get delivered, it will go straight into the Defender.

Well, the case still didn't come in (I smell scam) so today I went to Best Buy in hoping that they had a colored Defender, hoping that the black one is still on it's way. They had red and blue, and it was a difficult decision because both of them looked really nice, but I chose the blue. As I sat in the BB parking lot, on the Defender went and I was on my way. Had it on for only a couple of hours, but I like the feel and it does fit in my pocket fine. I actually like the slight bulk to it because to me, it fits better in my hand. No I don't have big hands, but the naked phone is just to small to hold comfortably.

The only thing I noticed so far is that there is a very slight rainbow effect on the screen, but it's barely noticable when the screen is lit up. Another plus is that it fits in my Kensington car charger/mount! As long as it's seated well, the charger connects, and this I was willing to sacrifice just to get the Defender! :)

Does it fit with skin?

I want to buy the defender so bad, but I have phantomskinz matte skin on the back and sides of my iPhone 4. I do not want to remove the skin on the back. I can do without the sides but I want to leave the back skin on.

Does anybody know if the defender will fit with my skins?

Finally picked up a black Otterbox Defender at Best Buy today. It has only been on a couple of hours, but I am really enjoying it. It does add a little bulk, but the case is WAY less bulky than the 3GS version and there is no watermark on the screen. I agree with an earlier poster than it feels very good in your hand and the phone is much easier to hold.

The two things that will take some getting used to are the anti-glare screen and the fact that I liked touching the naked glass. I think the added protection and peace of mind is a worthwhile tradeoff for those two items.

If I get tired of this case or miss the bright screen too much, I will switch back to my Slider case, which I also really liked.

Well, I called the 4 closest Best Buys today, trying to locate a black Defender. Two locations had only red ones, and the other two had nothing at all. I decided that I will probably just have to bite the bullet and order from the website and obsess over tracking info. Luckily I stopped at my local Wal-Mart to buy groceries, and to my surprise there was a rack full of black Defenders. I initially thought they were for the 3GS, but I'm glad I looked closer! I had no idea they even carried nicer iPhone accessories.

I removed my Incipio NGP Matte, which is a great case, but I still babied it way too much. So far I'm impressed with the Defender, even more so than with my 3GS Defender. It feels very solid, and there is no hint of any silicone sagging. No watermarks, just a slight rainbow effect that is only visible with the phone off and tilting it in light to look for it. I find the touch sensitivity to be much better than the 3GS, and the screen quality degradation was very minimal, and only noticeable when I tried to look for it. I've seen some video reviews that claim the bottom port flap is loose and doesn't lock into place very well, but I have pulled the flap and closed it dozens of times with no issues yet. Some of the flaps take a little effort to lock in completely, so maybe these people were just not closing the seal all the way.

Looking for the "feel" of the glass?

cprloe, if you do like touching the "naked" glass, or if you would prefer using a screen protector, simply cut out the plastic screen protector in your defender, and you will get 99% of the protection your defender provides and still get the brightness, detail, and "feel" that you like.

Stumbled onto Defender at local Walmart

I was in the local Walmart yesterday looking at cases for my newly acquired IPhone 4 and the person working the area tapped me on the shoulder and asked me if I'd like to see the new Otterbox Defender. They had just received 4 black ones and she hadn't even taken them out of the box yet. I checked one out, loved the feel and size of it, and bought it on the spot for $44. Love it so far. MUCH less bulky than the 3GS Defender, very sleek and easy to hold. And as I said in my previous post, I am considering cutting out the screen protector and using my own in order to get the glass "feel" and a little more brightness and crispness. I've done that before with previous defenders with no issues.

iPhone sleeve

Hi guys! I can see everyone's trying to pick the best for their iPhone. If you need a sleeve for your iPhone, I recommend the iShine Microfiber Sleeve. It's practical because it protects from scratches and most importantly it can be used as a cleaning cloth.

Does anyone have these issues on your defender-

I removed the screen plastic because I already had a film a while.

My screen is too dark from the hole for the sensor for light. It's strange. Did anyone remove the plastic for the front plastic and front camera?

Also, does your top clip when putting it together. My top by the power button and seems loose. I've tried clicking it a little and installed it a few times.. :(

I have also removed the stock screen protector but not the camera and prox sensor protector.
Mine is also clicking on the same spot. I put a little scotch tape on the corner to hold the plastic together, problem solved!.

For those of you who are thinking of removing the stock screen protector... go for it. It's very easy to do. Just push from any inside corner and it will start to pop out. Just make sure to remove the glue left behind. It could adhere to you screen. I did this about a month ago as soon as I got mine and couldn't be happier.

I currently have a Zagg on mine and wanted to know if there is a big screen quality difference with using the built in screen protector as opposed to removing it and only using my Zagg?

Bought black at Walmart but took it off after a half a day. It's too much of a lint/dust magnet, including the screen. It's nice tho, and not too bulky.

Just did mine! So easy and the glue came off perfectly. Loving the case with the power support crystal film. :)

:) For any interested Canadians,

I ordered the Otterbox Defender on the Otterbox website on August 9th. There is a little bit of a delay getting them shipped out, but they arrive really quickly when they are shipped.

My order was shipped on the 16th through UPS Express and it arrived in Vancouver on the 17th. That is the definition of express IMO.

Awesome experience shopping and ordering through the Otterbox website.

Also, look for codes that give you a discount. I got $5 off my order, so the total (with shipping) came to $58 CAN.

sweet! the commuter case is available too. I'm still deciding between my defender for crazy stuff, and the other 2 for a DD case. :)

got my defender today. easy to put together. not sure about screen yet. i would need to purchase an alternative screen protector. liking it so far. bulky, but i primarily wear my phone on my hip.

Okay, maybe I'm ****ing retarded, but I can't figure out how to install the Otterbox Defender. How do I even get the silicon layer off? This is driving me nuts. The instructions are useless.

Edit: Alright, finally figured it out. I was really afraid of breaking the silicon, so I figured I was doing it wrong.

You need to essentially peel the silicone back and -- most important -- slip it off the black plastic tabs on the top and either side, and the tab in the upper left-hand corner. It's really not difficult once you see how the rubber fits against those tabs.

Good Luck!

A.

Some impressions of a new Otterbox Defender owner...

it fits in my skinny jeans pockets :D

Thanks, was finally able to see one (and buy one) yesterday at Best Buy.

In the end you are right, it is not much bigger than the CaseMate Carbon Fiber Case that I ended up getting last week at the ATT store (without the belt clip), so it does fit in my pants pocket when needed. And the built-in screen protector is very nice - no watermarking here.

If I have a complaint about the Defender, it is only that it is I find it very hard to open up the hard plastic case to remove the iPhone 4. Which can be a good thing or a bad thing.

The good of it is that the hard plastic shell should protect the iPhone 4 very well from the case popping open - even with the rubber cover on it - providing extra protection. The bad of it is that it makes it tough if one needs/wants to remove the iPhone 4 from the Defender case.

For me the reason to remove the iPhone 4 easily from a case would be to use
some of the currently available tripod adapters or GPS adapters with connectors. On the vain/fun side is to be able to show off the iPhone 4 with a fun custom skin like the Leica like iP4 image shared in another thread with a Griffin case. :D

But within hours of buying the Otterbox Defender and getting it installed, I found out that it is worth its weight in gold IMO. And learned a lesson on the belt clip as well. Thought I had secured the Defender protected iPhone to the belt clip, and went out and about doing some sightseeing. On my return to the hotel, I was leaving the shuttle bus with noise isolating earbuds attached listening to some tunes. All of a sudden there was dead silence in my earbuds.

Looked down and the earbud jack was hanging free at my feet. My heart sank. Turned around and the bellman was just getting up from picking up my just a week and half old iPhone 4 from the asphalt. Quick check of the Defender case showed no damage what so ever. And EVERYTHING on the iPhone 4 worked like the day it was new!

Now for a tip on the use of the belt clip - just be sure that you hear a good solid click to be sure that the case is securely in place.... :)

Just thought I would post this here in case anybody is interested. My black defender will be for sale in a week or so. I've had it on the phone for about a week and it's virtually spotless. Just decided that I like the bumper alone better. $30 shipped anywhere in the US. I don't have the original packaging.

Sorry mods if this is against the rules. Please delete it if so.

Email me at cooter947 at yahoo if interested. Can send pics of interested.
