I have not been able to get past the verification part for the past 3 hrs. Once around 4am i was able to add it to my cart for shipping but than it timed out. so for laughs i went to my shopping cart again and bam there was my iPhone 4. It let me enter my shipping and payment method and gave me an order number :D. lets hope that worked if not I will be going to the apple store with my order number and be like where is my effin iPhone hahaha.
 
Am I wrong to think that if they can't handle the traffic to accept preorders that this does not bode well for at&t's ability to handle the traffic that all these phones are going to create?

Yes I know technically I'm wrong...but its indicative of how underprepared everyone is for these phones and the demand the create

Ummm....hate to say this, but I just installed the Apple Store App to my Iphone and pretended I was buying one and I got all the way to the end before I cancelled. To those having trouble that are picking up at a store (I didn't see a shipping option) I'd recommend you try that! The app asks if it can find your location and the list of nearby stores pop up! Assuming it will charge the credit card you have stored on Itunes maybe?

Finally, after 1 hour 15 minutes, I got my order through! Yeah! I would suggest sticking with AT&Ts site. Apple's site kept timing out. It was a slow process with a lot of page refreshing but all is well now. Time to start the day.

Next obstacle, activation! Obstacle, that's a funny word. Try saying it 3 times.

I don't understand why you have to pre-order this very instance.
Wait until tomorrow or the next day or the next.

User your brains people... don't be so stupid.

Because (at least for me) some of us don't want to have the stock for delivery on the 24th run dry, and then they move the delivery date for subsequent orders to a later date, as they did for the iPad 3G.
 
this sucks.
and i just called my local apple store, they said to pre order two (one for in store and one for delivery) just in case they cant take att authorized users and the person at my apple said they will find out monday for sure.

so this is going to take a while. :(

Hadn't seen that one before... sigh.
 
Can't even log into my AT&T account...get a message saying that "Due to a system upgrade the site is temporarily unavailable".
 
I am glad I grew up.

I have been waiting several years to get my first iPhone and it seems I can wait several others.

All I need is to make phone calls, text message and a GPS. The rest is leisure.

Great idea but I think Apple and ATT are the ones out to lunch. I have been trying both Apple and ATT at the same time. Neither will go thru. Latest attempt at ATT says they are doing a system upgrade. I tried ATT phone number for error like they said and recording says "cannot order iPhone with phone." Duh. Well I have nothing important today, was only planning to follow Phil Mickleson playing his practice round at Pebble. They goodness they allow cellphones on practice days, I will keep trying to get an iPhone with my iPhone.
 
Starting to think I should have had mine shipped, lines are going to be nuts at the Apple store...
 
I get as far as the "are you a new or existing customer" screen, make my selection and then it goes "poof" ("sorry, there was an error processing your request. Please try again later")

Someone should go feed the squirrel.
 
Only took 5 hours, but finally got my pre-order for myself and my wife. Unfortunately had to use the AT&T store :mad: since Apple cannot connect to AT&T account verification. I'll probably get my phones in "late summer".

Got into AT&T by direct dialing one of their servers. Slow as hell and the shipping address is inconvenient, but I placed the order.

It's definitely AT&T that's stressing here. Apple Store was slow, but would hang when it made calls to AT&T -- hence why I decided to order through them, instead.

Honestly, can you blame them for this? Think of the logistics of building a transaction management system capable of handling a few million orders in a few hours. Now think of managing that system 24/7/365 for an event that happens once a year. Ridiculous waste, right? Not the way you'd like your cell phone money used, right?

And it's just pre-order -- right? Better that we have this stress a week before release then, as happened in prior releases, on the day of. The initial iPhone release -- yes I'm in the $600 Club -- was a nightmare; I wound up spending an entire day without a working or even an unlocked phone because AT&T's system was so ill prepared. I remember hanging out at dinner, sliding to make an emergency call and then turning off the handset over and over and over again...

It's gonna take patience -- and sneakiness -- to deal with the next few days. But we'll get our **** guys.

Does it really matter when you pre-order the phone? Will we all still get them on April 24th as long as we pre-order at some point today?
