I wouldn't say OVAL either. I would go more along the likes of saying it's rounded squares vs squares. It takes more programming to make them like iOS vs the Winodws 7 just a square. Which tells you how much time Microsoft put into their phone.

You obviously know nothing about programming. iOS uses static icons. No programing what-so-ever other than 'on click' event. WP7 uses live tiles. A serious amount of programming going on there, plus the way they animate when touched.
----
Comparison-wise I find WP7 to be the most innovative OS on the market today. It's obviously green and needs some maturity, but you can really appriciate what MS is trying to do there. Meanwhile, iOS is getting stale with it's static icons and lack of any kind of widgets (and small screen).

However, my problems with WP7 are:
Too much black. I don't buy a very expensive multimedia device to look at a black background everywhere.
The square hompage icons are much too big for the info they impart. Makes for excessive scrolling of home page content.
This is a biggie for me: waisting about 20% of the homepage for a single arrow. Very poor UI design to say the least:

Hey guys can someone please help me here

I work in a nightclub in the UK and someone left an iPhone 4 - absolutely brand new 2nights ago.. As no-one phoned it while the club was open i left it on in the office incase anyone did.. Well the battery died but the person has been clever enough to block it which is good.. But its absolutely brand new and its a coupl'a days before Christmas.. Is there no way i could get this phone back to them? its askin for a passcode so i cant even get on to phone them?

Please reply.. I have no interest in keeping this phone at all cos i have no clue how to use it and have a phone myself, it just must be horrible for the person who's lost it

Thanks

You can argue that each iPhone have been the best device in the cell phone market that particular year since 2007. iPhone 4 is the best phone of 2010. Galaxy S can't really compare in build quality. The one phone that beats iPhone 4 in certain areas is the Nokia N8. The N8 isn't a beautiful device (IMO), but the build quality is outstanding and the camera for still photos is top notch. They used the same materials as the iPod mini which was built like a tank compared to the nanos. Gorilla Glass for the screen and a scratch resistant camera lens. From front to back, it is extremely durable. But N8 where beats iP4 in a couple areas, iP4 still trumps it on several others including software, faster CPU, sexier design, longer battery life, and a stellar video recorder.

I'm playing online poker and one of the hottest girls on there mentions how she wanted an iPhone and how she hates her Palm Pre because it keeps freezing on her. It feels great to be on top right now and I'm grateful I use one. But I know nothing stays on top forever and Apple can't get too complacent sitting atop the mountain.

Was in a shop today,

Tried: Galaxy S, HTC Desire HD, Nokia C7, Samsung Omnia 7 and the iPhone 4.

Simply, they all suck compared to the iPhone.

None of them offer a UI that is as consistent and feels as unified at the iOS.

Galaxy S and Desire HD with their powerful processors and GPUs are still totally laggy, jittery and slow, made me wonder, what's the point of all those dual core CPUs, huge RAMs and powerful graphics chips when Android is simply not ready to take advantage of any of that? There is no hardware acceleration, and it tells.

Then there is the UI, edge bounce effects are present in some applications and menus, absent in others, some applications look native, some look like they came from a different phone, there is no consistency at all, in the iPhone everything is consistent, if something pops up, even insignificant, and you scroll up and down there is bounce effect, everything looks "integrated" and native, all that is simply absent in Android.

iPhone's and iOS's touch detection and keyboards are also much better.

Nokia C7 and Symbian feels like I'm in some cold Siberian nuclear bunker using a command line terminal, it's in a MAJOR need for a UI overhaul. Problems when scrolling with it registering your taps and opening up whatever, annoying. Although, it's menus did feel a bit smoother than the Android, the homescreen has a lag after you swipe, supposed to be fixed in an update.

WP7, meh... I didn't dig the UI, too all over the place, too square and monotone, although the UI is more consistent than Android and Symbian, there are bounce effects however they are limited, you get the bending effect but then run in to a "wall". Overall just not impressed by it at all.

Apple are just incredible to create such an amazing platform with nothing to reference or copy, incredible.

Before you call me biased, I'd like to note that I don't own any of the above listed devices, nor I have a frequent interaction with any of them.

Those arent dual core phones. There arent any dual core phones out yet.
So what did you give each phone, .....about 5 minutes each? ...LOL

This is what fandroids don't get. It doesn't matter if "they get sorted out later". It is simply not something Google is good at or cares about: UI/UX. Apple is a design company and user experience is its #1 priority. You don't "sort out" user experience. It is an attitude when you develop things in the first place. It is not something you "fix".

Android will never ever come close to what iOS is now or in the future.

This is false. Every OS Android has brought out is better than the last. I have a iPhone 2G and i can tell you that the UI on that is not as good as Froyo 2.2 on my phone. Not even close really. And not a smooth as even Eclair 2.1.
Point is, it gets better just like Apples does so to say what you said is completely false and a lame statement.

I would bet within a year Android will pass iPhone by as far as OS because they put big updates out a lot faster than Apple does. Gingerbread is a major update and is out now and Honeycomb is coming out soon which will be in Tablets first but will be going to phones as well and Ice Cream is already being worked on so what you said in bold is just false.

iPhone will get a major update in July. 12 months from the last one and it took Apple 2 years to give you MMS and Copy and Paste.

In your opinion. I have a Nexus One running 2.2.1 and i can telll you that webOS and iOS still have it beat hands down when it comes to UI design and iOS still edges in overall fluidity...in my opinion. Sure Android has more functionality overall but if i were to pick one phone to live with forever at this stage...it would be iOS 4.2.1.

Also lets face it Gingerbread (UI tweaks/gaming APIs) and Honeycomb (Tablet APIs) are updates designed to catch up with what Apple already has.

Apple took their time to get out copy & paste in order to get it absolutely right for a touch interface and consequently their implementation (which Google is copying in Gingerbread, and MS in their upcoming update) is still the one to beat.

Also everyone keeps saying X will surpass Apple's Y within Z time period. Honestly do you guys really think Apple is sitting around twiddling their thumbs.

Anyway, bottom line is one size doesn't fit all and as a result opinions will differ.

Well, if they are designedto catch up(which i dont really buy) they are doing a damn good job of it considering Apple had a 2 year head start.... year and a half anyways. At the pace they are going, it shouldnt be long til they pass them up.

BS...Steve didnt want it and finally gave in. You trying to say it needed two years to be perfect when it works just fine on their other computers is ridiculous. Copy and paste on my phone works just fine and it didnt need an extra two years to do it.....and MMS which Steve also didnt want but gave in.

Also everyone keeps saying X will surpass Apple's Y within Z time period. Honestly do you guys really think Apple is sitting around twiddling their thumbs.
Of course not but they are putting out a major upgrade per YEAR. Clearly you can see Android is going at a much faster pace.

Anyway, bottom line is one size doesn't fit all and as a result opinions will differ.

Clearly. Its just that Apple owners in here really are touchy about it while Android forums...the two i go to dont even have discussions much about iPhone.

iPhone is a great, great device and i think the next one will be telling in how Steve wants to go. Id be shocked if he didnt give it a bigger screen but he does take his time giving the people what they want and with windows 7 phones and Android going full steam ahead, ...that could be a bad thing for Apple.

BS...Steve didnt want it and finally gave in.

Huh? Steve didn't want it? where did you pull that from.

You trying to say it needed two years to be perfect when it works just fine on their other computers is ridiculous.

Desktop UI is not the same as mobile/touch UI.

Copy and paste on my phone works just fine and it didnt need an extra two years to do it.....and MMS which Steve also didnt want but gave in.

Sure they could've implemented a rudimentary version (as it currently exists on other platforms even Android 2.2) earlier or wait till they got what they considered the perfect version for a touch interface (typical perfectionist Apple move). They even said they were working on it when asked what the hold up was. I'm glad they did the latter.

Of course not but they are putting out a major upgrade per YEAR. Clearly you can see Android is going at a much faster pace.

Faster might not necessarily translate to better but we shall see how/if they indeed surpass. I for one can't wait, competition between all these companies can only mean one thing for me the consumer.

...he does take his time giving the people what they want and with windows 7 phones and Android going full steam ahead, ...that could be a bad thing for Apple.

I doubt he cares...they've never really been a me too company.

Actually your Copy and Paste does not work just fine. It doesn't work everywhere in every program like it does on the iphone. I have used your phone at work when trying to copy some stuff to a email of someones when setting up a phone. It won't let you copy and paste in certain areas. So it still LACKS in that department which isn't the only department it lacked in.

It's copy and paste also is not as easy to use vs the iphone one.

Well, if they are designedto catch up(which i dont really buy) they are doing a damn good job of it considering Apple had a 2 year head start.... year and a half anyways. At the pace they are going, it shouldnt be long til they pass them up.

I have Froyo on mine and it works just fine. Im not trying to say iPhone sucks as you are trying to imply i am. I am saying it didnt take two years for Android to get copy and paste.

Huh? Steve didn't want it? where did you pull that from.

If he wanted it, he would of implemented it in the first phone. Not the 3rd.

Perfect version? Dude it isnt that hard to implement these things on the OS. Do you know there is a different ROM for Froyo every other week for users to try? They spit them out, update them seems every other day. And they are already working on getting custom ROMs out for Gingerbread instead of waiting for official releases.
Apple coulnt insert a copy and paste or MMS during those two years because....you say that wanted it to be perfect? And MMS was NOT perfect when first released. Kinda like the perfect antenea they installed in the iP4 after 4 years? Oh wait....it doesnt work very well and Steve said you are "holding it wrong" and gave out bumpers to help the phones get a signal. PERFECT!

I call BS on that.

I have to say...my 2G has never had an issue. It is slow as hell compered to my Vibrant but that phone never had an issue. First Gen. The iP4 has more issues than any of them when it came out. Including it being a China Doll with all the glass that was supposed to be real strong. PERFECT!

Two years behind and they are right there now with Gingerbread. Two more major OS already coming out and in the works.

I doubt he cares...they've never really been a me too company.

Oh he cares. You wait and watch how much he cares in the coming year.

Well it works I had Froyo too. But it doesn't work in all areas like the iphone.

Dont know what to tell ya. Everytime ive used copy and paste, it worked just fine. Im not an avid user of it so im sure i havent used it in every application but SMS, and the email i used it in, it worked fine.

Oh and i am using a custom ROM of Froyo called Axura 2.2. It isnt the official Froyo from Samsung/Google.

If he wanted it, he would of implemented it in the first phone. Not the 3rd.

Sorry but thats conjecture

It's easy to implement a c&p but it might not be as easy to implement a very good c&p. If it was, others would've have done it a long time ago instead of now trying to imitate Apple's implementation.

Perfect might not have been the best word but whether you admit it or not iOS has the best C&P implementation on any mobile device thus far. Period.
...and yes you're not the only one who is familiar with XDA forums or custom cooked ROMs in general. Open vs Closed argument-i get it.

The Nexus One also sufferes from signal degradation once you grip the bottom half of the phone, ditto for Galaxy devices amongst others.

I have to say...my 2G has never had an issue. It is slow as hell compered to my Vibrant but that phone never had an issue. First Gen. The iP4 has more issues than any of them when it came out. Including it being a China Doll with all the glass that was supposed to be real strong. PERFECT!

Funny, iPhone 4 has been the iPhone i've been most satisfied with since the initial iPhone...probably even more than the original iPhone because its the only version yet to undergo a warranty replacement for any reason whatsoever. But to each their own.

Two years behind and they are right there now with Gingerbread. Two more major OS already coming out and in the works.

iOS 5 (definitely) and iOS 6 (probably) are already being worked on too, so i fail to see your point here.

Oh he cares. You wait and watch how much he cares in the coming year.

I think you want him to care more than he actually does. Sure he'll be aware of the status of every smartphone platform but i doubt he's peeing his pants or anything of the sort.

Anyhow, i'm tired of debating, we're just gonna have to agree to disagree.

Sorry but thats conjecture

No more conjucture than tellng me they waited two years because they wanted it perfect. And we all know MMS after two years was not perfect.

Touche'...they all look very much the same. It is Apples design or somebody elses?

The Nexus One also sufferes from signal degradation once you grip the bottom half of the phone, ditto for Galaxy devices amongst others.

Sure but did it drop calls all te time? No! Mine suffers some from it too but did it drop calls? Ive never dropped a call. Never dropped a call on my 2G either.

Your one of the lucky ones and i will say, Apple supports their phones very well. Ill give it up to them for that.

iOS 5 (definitely) and iOS 6 (probably) are already being worked on too, so i fail to see your point here.

Maybe they are, maybe they arent but iP6 wont be out for two years. Android may be M(it goes alphabetically) by then.

Anyhow, i'm tired of debating, we're just gonna have to agree to disagree.

I have said iPhone is a great device. No doubt about it. They could do things to make it better but Steve drags his ass and now with competition, he may help the cause which is a good thing. Its just the fanboys that wont admit a good product getting a lot better real fast that is why im debating.

Ive never tried a Windows 7 phone. I may love it. I may not love it. Who knows but i wont automatically dismiss it because it is different from an iPhone.
That happens a lot here and its too bad. These good devices are going to make them all better. Id rather read stuff like " Im a fanboy who loves Apple and i wont get anything else" rather than see stuff like "Android sucks because it took me 30 seconds to find how to turn off vibrations". Really? It is a different format...it will take some time to get used to it.

When they announced it they said the wanted to get it right...hence the delay. MMS worked find for me though, even though i rarely use it, i don't really recall having problems once it launched. Did you?

Touche'...they all look very much the same. It is Apples design or somebody elses?

Apple was the first company to use the double-pin selection approach as far as i can remember.

That might be an AT&T issue as i cannot remember the last time i've had a call drop on me...i'm not even sure i remember what that feels like. I get the occasional crackling/static when things get patchy but to actually drop the call...nope. I don't even use a bumper or any case either.

Maybe they are, maybe they arent but iP6 wont be out for two years. Android may be M(it goes alphabetically) by then.

But there will also be iOS 5.x.x, there have even been whispers of iOS 4.3.

Fair enough. No arguments here.

I don't understand why people here who don't like the iPhone as much as the majority here, as this is an Apple rumor forum, have to diss the iPhone?

Seriously, why?

I for one agree with the OP, I think the iPhone 4 is superior to the rest of the other phones, the user experience and build quality of the iPhone 4 is totally superior, not to mention the awesome customer service Apple provides.

being completely biased (fanboy) is never a good idea
competition benefits everyone

It comes down to priorities. Apple cares about the User Experience. Google cares about ads.

What can you expect from a tech company that whores out their OS to anyone that can slam together a box? Do they really respect their own product? Do they care about how it will he used? Do they care about the kind or mindshare it will garner them?

Makes me laugh when I read posts the iPhone 4 is the best smart phone ever in the world. But that seems to be from people on thier first smartphone or only with iPhone experience.

I say give a modern Android device a try you might be pleasantly surprised.

I am typing this on my new Nexus - S. And hands down the is the best and fastest and most stable phone I have ever owned. It is lightning quick. And just works like its supposed to. Google navigation 5.0 is amazing. I dig the live wallpaper and beautiful Widgets.

I am open to buying an iPhone 5 this summer but they need to update with Widgets and notification system and a 4" screen. Right now the iPhone 4 feels a bit dated to me and getting stale.

Which would obviously explain why there's not one single ad anywhere to be found in the Android OS
