Called this number and I am now waiting for a customer service rep....

I just went through that and after being on hold for 10 minutes was told there was nothing they could help with on their end once they learned I had already tried to activite via the phone. She recommended I keep trying and maybe wait until later/lower volumn hours.

This is my first iPhone. Four hours after delivery and still no activiation... what a HUGE buzz kill after all the anticipation and excitement. :(

I don't think I can bring myself to enter my zip code and ss last four digits one more time. Time for a break.

Still waiting for all of you early adapters to go thru pain and suffering.

My iPhone 4S is still in the box.

Called AT&T and the stupid woman said that it was Apples fault. Complete crap but o well.

Wish I could talk to the service reps that actually did something for us.

AT&T is telling me the same thing. The AT&T rep is calling 1-800-myApple to see what's happening on the Apple side. *sigh* Been dealing with this for 5+ hours now.

Very smart!

Talked to the lady on the AT&T activation number posted...honestly, kinda too frustrated to type after speaking with her...

I was patient before (and I guess I still am), but now I'm just pissed at AT&T's incompetance. Without blowing an aneurysm, the storIES I go from her centered around "It's Apple's fault, their servers can't handle it." "It's because your iPhone is trying to download the new operating system from Apple's servers and they're overloaded." to finally, "I don't know what to tell you, try again next week."

Speaking to rep now and they are claiming that it's Apple's fault. I dont believe it since no Verizon or Sprint customers are having this problem.

Yep, got the same thing from that number. I want to know how you get the all automated service like that guy claims...

I guess the AT&T rep got tired of assisting and just transferred me to Apple, now on hold waiting for an Apple rep, after 50+ minutes hold/talking to the AT&T rep!

Well, on hold a second time with Apple, apparently the AT&T rep connected me with the iPod department, not the iPhone department.... Apple automation indicates and extended waiting period for assistance. FUN FUN FUN!!!

It has to be AT&T's side since when you go through the motions it returns your phone number and prompts you to agree. I would think it would not get that far if it is Apple's problem.

What ever you do, don't call AT&T's activation number as suggested in another thread. I had them manually activate the new sim and then they had me turn off the new phone then back on. It still wants to go through the activation process, but now, my old phone is not working and I am without a cell phone.

So I only ended up waiting on hold for 35 minutes but when I got thru to Apple they said "Sorry, the servers are busy. You'll have to keep trying." I'm more PO'd about this than any missing feature from the iPhone.

Yeah, on the phone with AT&T now and apparently "Apple's servers" that are down...nothing wrong on the AT&T side...weak ass excuse guys...

can't even get to activation

Got the At&t email and clicked Activate Online Now -- great.
I put in the order number and the activation number and I get a message order number not found. So I don't even get to activation. Anyone have this problem?

By the time I activate this thing it's going to feel like I've had this phone forever.

For those who were able to activate it successfully, did you get the promised email? Or is AT&T/Apple b-s-ing us?

I've been on the phone with att for an hour. I don't mean waiting for someone to answer either. She has been trying stuff for an hour now. My case is slightly different because I am doing an upgrade swap...

Just so everyone knows, it is NOT just AT&T that has issues, I can confirm Verizon too. I got my iPhone 4S around 11:30AM this morning and have been trying to activate ever since. Did the whole connection to iTunes and such but nothing. It said it registered the device with Apple in iTunes, but the phone remains unusable.

I have been trying to contact Verizon for over 3 hours and it instantly goes to a message saying "All Verizon circuits are busy or out of service, please try your call again later."

It appears that ALL Verizon lines are down right now and you can't even get to a customer service rep. From what I have read on Twitter, there seems to be a HUGE problem with almost all service providers and activation. All I know is at no time has something this big or this wide spread every happened on another iPhone launch and it seems to be the worst one to date!

Update:

Just got through to Verizon service. All is fine now, for some reason it did not deactivate old phone and thus would not allow activation of the new one. They said not sure why it happened but they took care of it with no issues at all. I do REALLY like Verizon service, they are quite good.

I did the upgrade swap also. They thought all they had to do was swap my old sim information with the new one. After doing that I could still not get past the Activate message. On top of that, because of the sim swap, my old phone does not work. I know it is not the sim because I can take the new sim and put it in the iphone4 and it will work. Must still be a flag that has to be set somewhere. I mentioned to the AT&T rep that I think I have to agree to new terms and asked if there was anywhere he can put that. The automated at&t message said I will need to agree to the new terms to active my phone, but then transferred me to an attendant.

Could have saved yourself 35 minutes and just been patient. I couldn't activate earlier. Waited a bit. Went for a walk, breathed in some fresh air, came back and I was able to activate no problem. You should try it.

Try what? Walking or breathing?

Can they activate in AT&T stores (not going near an Apple store today) and bypass the activation server blockage? Was thinking about stopping by on the way home.
