Exactly.

I was still on my iPhone 3G when everyone else had their 3GS. I was always envious of them, same as everyone with iPhone 4 will be envious of those with iPhone 5 (*4S)

Not the sameat all. The iPhone 4 has a pretty fast procesor for a phone- the 3G did not. There will be very few apps that need the dual core procesor - almost none in the short run. It's like the iPad vs iPad 2. My wife has the original and can run everything I can run with no noticeable difference, at least for now.

No larger screen, no 4G, no 64 GB. The Samsung Galaxy S 2 is looking sweeter and sweeter.

Tony
Good for you but I have to ask, why are you wasting your valuable time posting here? If you think specs are the determining factor then you obviously have no interest in "apps' and would probably be better off with a cheaper "feature" phone instead of a smartphone.

I have a feeling that Apple is shifting iPhone releases to the fall to take place of the usual iPod event, thus freeing WWDC for (possibly) Mac updates.

I guess you haven't looked at the Android app market recently. It pretty much has every important quality app that I'm using on the iPhone now, and some that are not even available for the iPhone. Sure the iPhone has a lot MORE apps, but 10,000 fart-like apps really doesn't do it for me. :)

Tony

Um...I guess you haven't seen the latest Android vs iOS stats then. :)

Tony
Tony, are you talking about hardware or software because the only way devs seem to be able to make money on android is through selling adware whereas on iOS, people are actually willing to "buy" apps.

Keep in mind that a lot of android hardware is being sold with almost full subsidization so people are not getting those phones because they want one badly but rather because they are "cheap" or "free".

Many of those phones are being used as feature phones anyway.

At the end of the day, I really don't give a crap what is on Android because I actually have bought iOS apps so I would be throwing all of that away by getting an Android phone and gaining nothing in return. At the best, Android is catching up in usability and responsiveness despite the hardware they are throwing at it and it is extremely fragmented.

Switching would essentially mean throwing money away and then I would have to either dual boot into windows or hunt down some third party software to sync with my mac. I would gain nothing and lose a lot.

That's true, to some extent.

Originally, iPhone 3G performed decently, but it was because of the updates that it started to slow down.

I'd imagine the same thing will happen with my iPhone 4, with the iOS5 just around the corner...

If it was the other way round you can bet the 'fapple' crowd would be all over the fandroids...grow up buddy ;)

I don't know if you've noticed but there really is no "fapple" crowd. There all these rumors and all this talk of Apple fanboys but go to any site, engadget, Macrumors, Gizmodo and all you will see is people bitching about Apple fans, but you rarely see the Apple fans.

Um...I guess you haven't seen the latest Android vs iOS stats then. :)

Google said it themselves... they have 36 OEMs and 215 carriers...

It's a miracle Apple has 25% market share against Google's 35%....

5 iPhones versus how many dozens of Android phones?

I'm talking hardware phone sold with Android vs iOS, not app sales. Just read though past Mac Rumors news stories. Android is outselling iOS at an increasing pace. There are obvious REASONS for that not necessarily relate to quality (cheaper phones more widely available mostly), but it is a fact.

So it'll have been at least 15 months since the iPhone 4 and all they're going to upgrade is the processor and camera?

I passed up on the iPhone 4 because I thought the next model would finally provide 64GB, a larger screen, and LTE support, but if none of those are present, I may just have to go for a Samsung Galaxy S2.

Current LTE chips are battery killers. There is no way apple wants crap battery life on their phones, and i wouldn't either

...

If this is true there was no reason to wait until september, meaning its probobly not true. Also anyone could have come up with is same rumor just by putting together a few other rumors that are also likely not true

Yeah, not to mention music and videos. I'll buy it at 64 GB no matter what else it has. Otherwise I'm going Samsung Galaxy S2 for sure.

Tony

Maybe you should read about the storage complaints on the Galaxy before you start yapping.

Im not arguing this. I was just stating it as fact, not the reasons behind it.

And you get the no 64GB from??? Point me to one credible source...

If the main bump is the A5 CPU, I can see 64GB -- that's how it worked with the 3GS -- it went from 16GB max on the 3G to 32GB plus the faster CPU otherwise the same design.

You know what they should do...just call it....

iPhone.

You know, like:

iPod
iMac
Mac Mini
Apple TV

You dot see anyone calling the latest iPod Nano the iPod Nano 6.

+1. ditch all that G&S stuff and go back to the basics.

Sigh.

Here are the generations of the iPhone and their names:

1: "iPhone"
2: "iPhone 3G" (3G as in radio, not as in generation)
3: "iPhone 3GS"
4: "iPhone 4" (iPhone 4 is the 4th iPhone!)
5: ?

If they call the 5th iPhone "iPhone 4S", then calling the one after that "iPhone 5" would mean that they were calling the 6th iPhone "iPhone 5".

I really wouldn't be surprised if they just call it the "iPhone 5" this time around, even if it does keep mostly the same appearance. It's the 5th iPhone. iPhone 5.

I don't need 64GB, if I stop downloading loads of crap from Cydia.
I don't need LTE: there's no LTE 4G support in my country - even by 2013, when I'll probably need a new (i)Phone.

I DO need better contrast;
I DO need "black is black" and "white is white" display;
Basically, I need a s-AMOLED-p alternative (Apple won't let people know that Samsung displays are on their iPhone, as they imply that they make the "hardware and software") on the iPhone.
I DO need a larger screen.
I DO like 326ppi; but I like 288ppi with a larger display better.

Proves that Android sucks a** and they have to give it away for free.

If it lands on the Sprint network, any chance of Virgin Mobile reeling one in? $25 a month for unlimited everything on an iPhone would pretty much kill off android phones.

We can dream. I hope it does.
