I'm talking hardware phone sold with Android vs iOS, not app sales. Just read though past Mac Rumors news stories. Android is outselling iOS at an increasing pace.

There are obvious REASONS for that not necessarily relate to quality (cheaper phones more widely available mostly), but it is a fact.

Yes. There are very obvious reasons.

But what is Android all about?

The only good thing about Android is it enables the choice of different phones. But now WP7 pawns Android with overall better phones in quality and design.

Apart from Widgets what is so good about it?

And what do I do with the stats? Do they make me win? Do they encourage me to buy the phone? Do they project the quality of Android phones?

You are a big fanboy. Explain in fanboy terms and I'll take it.

Google said it themselves... they have 36 OEMs and 215 carriers...

It's a miracle Apple has 25% market share against Google's 35%....

5 iPhones versus how many dozens of Android phones?

How many new activations now, per day? that's something I'd be interested in. I know 2 in my office who went from iphone to android, not the other way around.

Not worth the malware and viruses.

The reports of viruses and malware on Android is sadly exaggerated. I use an android phone right now. No viruses. Just like windows you have to do something you would not normally do to get a virus. It is hard to get a virus.

In December I want to be sold a new phone and so far from what I see the SGS2 is winning my buy. But I want to give the next Nexus phone its chance first and it will also let me try out the new iPhone. December seems so far away :D

If they're going to go for a 3.5" screen in 2011 this will be a big fail... Plus what would take them so long to release an iPhone 4S?

I am not going to buy an iPhone with 3.5" screen if the size of the overall device stays the same...

I know 40/60 have an iPhone. 2 had android. One changed to WP7 [that's me].

One threw his phone away to get an iPhone 4 after I showed him my iPad.

With that huge sample size, I am sure your little office represents the entire earth and outer space. But, cool story bro.

I really hope it goes to sprint.

If not I'll probably skip this gen, my iPhone 4 is holding up quite well. Unless Apple has some kind of killer feature up its sleeve...

Google says they activate 400,000 Android devices a day.

Apple sold 18.65 million iPhones last quarter... which is just over 207,000 a day... not counting iPod Touches and iPads.

It's funny though... some people say the number of apps don't make a platform better... so why does the number of phones? :D

Sure.

I never said it was the whole world. What's your point?

And yes, the little design team that creates the most powerful SERDES in the world represents a group of people that have a life and need a usable, useful phone to live through.

Cool.

iPad 2 = Second gen iPad.
iPhone 4 = Fourth gen iPhone.

Going by Apple's current naming conventions, no matter how small the update - and I'm guessing it won't be any more substantial than the iPad 1 to iPad 2 - it will be called the iPhone 5.

"3G" never referred to the specific generation of iPhone, but rather the network compatibility.

But...at the end of the day, Apple can call it whatever they want. For all we know, the next one may not even have a number associated with it. Still, the safe money is on "iPhone 5."

Basically, I need a s-AMOLED-p alternative (Apple won't let people know that Samsung displays are on their iPhone, as they imply that they make the "hardware and software") on the iPhone.

I thought it was pretty well known that the current iPhone screens were made by LG and the processors by Samsung. Apple doesn't mention their suppliers but they aren't secrets.

Apple will probably use OLED displays when they meet their requirements. If they could buy say 4" OLED screens at 960x540 resolution and they could actually get a reliable supply of them (Q2 2011 iphone sales were around 18 million per quarter) then they would probably use them.

I wonder if the alternating major/minor upgrade schedule makes more sense with the extended early discount eligibility guidelines AT&T and Verizon have implemented.

The vast majority of iphone 4 owners aren't going to be eligible to upgrade until 2012. Sure the diehards on here will take the time to sell their old phones to offset the price of a new unit. But most customers will just wait until they are eligible.

I just hope the Verizon 4 moves to $99 and they offer a $15 data plan for me and my wife.

No. 3G made perfect sense... IT WAS FREAKING 3G TECHNOLOGY! The original iphone was the anomaly.... then it went 3G to 3G's'... for speed.... then 4... now 4's' for speed... then 5... well I think you get the picture.

When the original came out, it was like the only freaking phone on the planet that wasn't 3G... they got rocked hard in the media for it... so they released 3G.

As a few others have said, this logic is wrong. The 3Gs was a third generation phone, which is why they kept the "3" in the title. The iPhone 4 was a 4th generation phone, hence the name, iPhone 4. The next phone will most likely be named iPhone 5 or something completely different from what is being discussed here.

I guess you haven't looked at the Android app market recently. It pretty much has every important quality app that I'm using on the iPhone now, and some that are not even available for the iPhone. Sure the iPhone has a lot MORE apps, but 10,000 fart-like apps really doesn't do it for me. :)

Tony
The Angry birds games are still ad supported. That sounds and is tacky and then there is the issue of fragmentation where not all apps with work on even "new" android phones.

So why buy a smartphone then? If you don't care about the apps then you should just get a dumb "feature" phone and a much cheaper talk, text and "social networking" plan rather than a full blown data plan.

No larger screen, no 4G, no 64 GB. The Samsung Galaxy S 2 is looking sweeter and sweeter.

Tony

lol

As if hardware was everything and software nothing. You sound like a PC guy. Anyway, go with the marketplace you like more.

AT&T allowed all customers to upgrade 3GS->4 with the fully discounted upgrade pricing (200/300$). Hopefully they will do that again.

If they don't I'll just leave for Verizon. Columbia, SC has LTE now :)
