As if hardware was everything and software nothing. You sound like a PC guy. Anyway, go with the marketplace you like more.

Go for it. That leaves one more for someone else. Enjoy your Windose, Xoom and crappy phone ecosystem.

Sooo... am I missing something... or did Apple do 3G > 3Gs > 4 ?

What would stop them doing 4 > 4s > 5?

I don't think it'll be 4Gs... as well... it's not 4G... that's where the G came from for the 3.

But Apple is changing. The likely development and release cycle to be:

4
4s
4.5s
4.75s (patience, they're still working on the 5)
4.85s
4.95s

Then Finally the iPhone 5, rumored to be released absolutely, positively, maybe, or maybe not. ha..ha...ha...ha....

Might as well have some fun with this since Apple is silent and unpredicitable.

It's just a phone. :D

"According to our industry checks, the device should be called iPhone 4S and include minor cosmetic changes, better cameras, A5 dual-core processor, and HSPA+ support"

Well this sounds absolutely perfect to me.

4" screen would pretty much be the only thing that would make me buy something else.

Exactly

You know what they should do...just call it....

iPhone.

You know, like:

iPod
iMac
Mac Mini
Apple TV

You dot see anyone calling the latest iPod Nano the iPod Nano 6.

^This

I do not understand all the nerd rage over what they call the next version of the iPhone. I am more interested in the specs.

Sprint is the best carrier of the big four in the U.S. Please bring the iPhone to Sprint.

Apple would be making a very smart move by having the new iPhone on all the major U.S. carriers, could really put the hurt on Android sales big time. T-Mobile and Sprint have a combined 100 million customers, or close to that, imagine if those 100 million now have a choice for a new iPhone instead of just Android or WinMo, etc...

I don't find the large Android phones appealing, but it's time that iPhones get a larger screen to compete. 3.7" screen which keeps the current resolution makes sense, without increasing the overall phone size too much.

Major iOS revamp is much needed. The OS is getting long in the tooth and needs a major facelift.

I'm sure they'll increase the capacity but 4G connectivity is unlikely this year, otherwise we would have heard about 4G chipset supply rumors.

Because the 3GS was the 3rd iPhone, thus the next iPhone would be the 4th.

If the next iPhone is called iPhone4s, the next iPhone after that (2012) would be the 6th iPhone.

Yes. There are very obvious reasons.

But what is Android all about?

The only good thing about Android is it enables the choice of different phones. But now WP7 pawns Android with overall better phones in quality and design.

Apart from Widgets what is so good about it?

And what do I do with the stats? Do they make me win? Do they encourage me to buy the phone? Do they project the quality of Android phones?

You are a big fanboy. Explain in fanboy terms and I'll take it.

Having been an Android user for the last few months (strictly for the cost savings), it gives you total control over your OS. You can completely change the UI, install services and customize just about anything you can imagine from replacing the stock SMS app, to the main screen to the default music player. Windows OS is just as locked down as iOS as far as the level of customization. I can also tell you there are huge drawbacks from being able to tweak it. Some apps can wreak havoc on the phone...freezing, battery draining, reboots etc. It's hard going from the elegance of iOS to android. At first it seems liberating...then quickly it becomes apparent freedom has a cost. Now I'm stuck wondering if I should go back to iPhone 4 or try and wait for iPhone 5. It's tough waiting. Love the cost savings of Virgin Mobile but hoping I can come close leveraging the family plan with an iPhone.

If this is true, then my hope would be that they don't wait a full year to release the 4G version. As soon as a decent LTE chipset is available in sufficient volume, they should roll the new phone (OK, probably not before at least 6 months have passed, to be realistic). I think going all the way to September 2012 with 3G on Verizon will be pushing their luck.

This year (we think) they're showing that they're not locked into the once-per-year release hardware release schedule.

I'm not buying this rumor. Not the name and not the support on sprint and t-mo. The spec bumps I could see coming about as rumored.

But the fact, people use phones for a particular. Not to make it beautiful and stare at it everytime. There's a point and then you get bored.

I am more than happy with my WP7 as I don't use all of the apps. There are some specific apps that I need and I can find those counter parts in WP7. But WP7 apps are stale; all looking very similar. iOS is all about quality and they work just great.

If I were you, I would wait for an iPhone 5. Seriously. Going back to iPhone 4 isn't worth it. But if you really can't wait, then pick one up tomorrow. As simple as that.

But yes, if the next one is more of an iPhone 4S, I am going to avoid as I really won't be needing it that much. But if the next one is actually an iPhone 5, **** everything. I'm in for that bitch.

Agreed. I'm really hoping this is finally going to be true.

It would be great if they could at least confirm this earlier than later. I have an EVO on Sprint, and the EVO 3D is starting to call my name. Pretty much the only thing that will keep me from such a move this summer (June?) is the thought of going (back) to an iPhone, and keeping my Sprint service.

So why is Apple hiring carrier compatibility engineers in Sprint's home town?

If this is true, a big IF, it is yet another ho hum... yawning Apple evolution. They could squash Android with a great update but it appears would rather continue milking the loyal customers with minimal updates. No bigger screen = minimal excitement.

A5 is a yawn update?? so half the power of the Sony NGP in a phone makes you yawn?

And No bigger screen = Apple keeping and gaining it's customers...

4" screen would pretty much be the only thing that would make me buy something else.

Yeap, bang on mate. I went to a gadget show recently, I took my iPhone 4 out and compared it to Nokia's stunning E7 (IMO the only phone design to better the iPhone) and even then the iPhone looked tiny, now the Acer 5" screen was also massive, the Xperia Arc also again big but not as bad.
However..... the Galaxy S 2!!! Flip me!! And the HTC big screen phones! You may as well carry your home LCD telly in your pocket. They are absolutely MASSIVE next to the iPhone.
So if you want the best Android handset, Galaxy 2, you have to forgoe the simple elegant idea of it being a 'Mobile Phone' and accept it may as well be a tablet. Samsung should have kept the original Galaxy's form factor and screen size.

Seriously??? 4S???? FOR ASS ? ? ? ?

I highly doubt this will be the name. Hell, this name isn't suited for a sex toy, let alone an Apple product......
