My #1 need and want for my next iPhone is 64GB. ( have only 0.92GB left on my 32GB iPhone 3GS Having a 3GS if the next generation was the same as iPhone 4 all i ask is the 64GB upgrade and the dual core A5 chip. Anything else be icing on the cake.

No, because at the time of the 3GS they were not committed to generation numbers. That happened FIRST with the iPhone 4 and the iPad 2. Now they are stuck with it. Which is good because it makes the most sense and is the least confusiing to consumers.

Apple isn't stuck with anything. My iPad 2 just said iPad on the box it came in. They'll change numbers around any way they want to whatever fits their marketing plan. If they release a new iPhone in Sept that doesn't use any new carrier tech (LTE) then they probably won't go with iPhone 5 moniker.

The more carriers the better. But waiting longer than usual for an update and only getting minor stuff kind of stinks. I really wanted a bigger screen. I love the dual core chips and that will rock. But darnit Apple, make the screen bigger.

I'll just sit over here in my dream box and keep hoping. :(

Exactly where I'm sitting. My 3GS had a good run, but for games it just doesn't preform very well. Infinity Blade takes ages to load and it doesn't have enough memory to fast-app-switch large games like that.

Dual core, improved camera, and 64GB. All I need for an upgrade.

No larger screen, no 4G, no 64 GB. The Samsung Galaxy S 2 is looking sweeter and sweeter.

Tony

Well, you tell me how it goes. Too bad you'll regret it later when you are stuck into a 2-year contract.
I made the same mistake in the past, this time I'm getting an iPhone, specially if it comes out for T-Mobile :D

What will the "real" iPhone 5 be called then?

4 was called "4" because it's the fourth phone, they wouldn't be able to call 2012 iPhone an iPhone 5, it'll be the sixth phone in the series. Maybe it'll be the 4GS?

Anyways give me:

A5 CPU/GPU
1GB RAM
64GB model
8MP camera with better lens/sensor
Better front camera(2MP?)
Maybe Wifi-Direct and BT3.0
Much improved iOS

And it's an instant buy.

If this is true, a big IF, it is yet another ho hum... yawning Apple evolution. They could squash Android with a great update but it appears would rather continue milking the loyal customers with minimal updates. No bigger screen = minimal excitement.

Apple can't increase screen size until they can double the linear resolution. If they make the screen bigger and don't increase the resolution, they will end up with bigger pixels. If they do anything other than double the resolution, they will cause compatibility issues with older software (or they will get stuck with jaggies or blurring caused by resolution independent scaling.)

Because the 3GS was the 3rd iPhone, thus the next iPhone would be the 4th.

If the next iPhone is called iPhone4s, the next iPhone after that (2012) would be the 6th iPhone.

I think it is time to dump the numbers. If you don't like the name Fred, how about Speed Puppy?

The next Iphone will probably be called iphone 4s if it is a minor upgrade and the iphone 6 will become iphone LTE or Iphone 4G. it makes sense to call the iphone Iphone 4s if it keeps the Iphone 4 body and style type. much like the iphone 3G and 3gs have the same design hence the names are associated. so as long as apple keeps the iphone 4 design it will have the 4 someone where in the title. i predict that if apple releases the iphone 4s in september the iphone LTE will arrive in june of next year bringing the schedule back to normal.

The 4S fits in with the trend:

Original iPhone - No subsidy (initially) and $20 for a roaming dial-up plan. Pass.

iPhone 3G - The phone built for the internet gets the speed it needs. BUY!

iPhone 3GS - Same phone, with Ooooooh a COMPASS!! Pass.

iPhone 4 - Best display ever in a phone. BUY!

iPhone 4S - Spec bump... Yay? Pass.

iPhone LTE - SPEED BABY SPEED!!! BUY!

:)

Quit worrying about 4G!

Why is everyone so mad that 4G/LTE won't be in the next iPhone. How much area does the service actually cover? What is the point of having a 4G/LTE phone if there is no 4G service. Apple is doing pretty good with their hardware decisions so far, look at their sales. People just want a new iPhone, they don't care what it has in it, mostly. They just want to say, "Haha, I have a newer phone then you!"
That's just my 2 cents

Hate saying it but that dam phone is looking really sweet more and more. But how will its battery be that the question.

Or how about the iphone 4s as "tea cup" and the iphone 5 as "tinker bell" those names just seem to have a catchy sound to them.

LTE is a non issue.

HSPA+ gives you 84/22 while the current implementation of LTE gives you 50/25

Not only is it a non issue, it's almost non existant unless you live in "a certain part" of the 37 largest cities in the US. LTE will be ready when the 5 is out next Aug now that we have a very reliable piece of information IMO that Sept will be 4s.

8-12 will be a completely redesigned Global Phone for all networks with all the goodies the gadget heads need. The new cycle is every Aug-Sept. Aint gonna change. LTE will be out as 3G is today.

Besides, HSPA+ is more than enough for anyone other than the people who freaking stream HD movies on a smart phone, got a life?

It always amazes me how many in here can't see Apples long term strategy.

Read iSteve. :apple:
