All this naming bull$#!t is to fulfill All androids that do have several different models, names and brands.

It is going to be an iPhone, the latest iPhone, the new one, the main player.

Good classic magical amazing revolutionary iOS we all love, and many try to demonize.

Bring it on!

Seriously??? 4S???? FOR ASS ? ? ? ?

I highly doubt this will be the name. Hell, this name isn't suited for a sex toy, let alone an Apple product......

Yeah - but remember before the iPad came out people were saying "iPad?!?! Do you really think Apple are gonna name their tablet after a feminine hygiene product!!"

And look what happened :D

RTP.

Why is everyone so mad that 4G/LTE won't be in the next iPhone. How much area does the service actually cover? What is the point of having a 4G/LTE phone if there is no 4G service...
I live in a major city that has had LTE coverage for a while now. I don't need to wait until every ****** podunk city in the United States has coverage. If LTE's available on your phone and you don't have service, switch it off and use 3G or EDGE. It's a non-issue.

... You're holding it wrong.

And if HSPA+ gives you the same if not better speeds then the current LTE implementation then what is the argument?

The Verizon marketing department has certainly done its job on the masses.

But the fact, people use phones for a particular. Not to make it beautiful and stare at it everytime. There's a point and then you get bored.

I am more than happy with my WP7 as I don't use all of the apps. There are some specific apps that I need and I can find those counter parts in WP7. But WP7 apps are stale; all looking very similar. iOS is all about quality and they work just great.

If I were you, I would wait for an iPhone 5. Seriously. Going back to iPhone 4 isn't worth it. But if you really can't wait, then pick one up tomorrow. As simple as that.

But yes, if the next one is more of an iPhone 4S, I am going to avoid as I really won't be needing it that much. But if the next one is actually an iPhone 5, **** everything. I'm in for that bitch.

I'll try and wait for the next version. I was extremely tempted to get a windows phone 7, especially now that I can get one for $50. It's just that the app marketplace is pretty lame. There are hardly any apps, they're overpriced and they're generally inferior to their iOS counterparts. Gameloft for instance..something as simple as UNO... iOS has it with retina quality and online multiplayer for 99 cents. The same game on WP7 without multiplayer is $5! There are 5 gameloft games on WP7, there are countless on iOS. 1 EA game on WP7....no decent NPR app...you get my drift. It's too bad b/c I probably would have gotten one.

Sooo... am I missing something... or did Apple do 3G > 3Gs > 4 ?

What would stop them doing 4 > 4s > 5?

I don't think it'll be 4Gs... as well... it's not 4G... that's where the G came from for the 3.

Who cares what they call it as long as they fix the antenna.

As you understand, Verizon customers can not use HSPA+ service, so what do you suggest they do? Switch to AT&T or Android?

I would consider the next iPhone if there is a 64gb model, but I will probably wait until next year when I am eligible for an upgrade. I wonder if they will go back to a June/July release (really looks like the next one will actually be September)?

If they continue a 12-15 month iPhone cycle, they're going to "run out" of numbers pretty quick if they keep going 4,5,6,7,8...

In 9 years you want to say I have the iPhone 13? Sounds pretty weird to me. Of course... 9 years is a long time... who knows what they'll have by then and what it'll be called.

Whether it's called 4S or 5 it will be a 4S spec wise. Not that it's a bad thing, faster, longer battery and better cameras will do for now I suppose.

I'm doubtful on the name, the rest sounds right. Seems that Apple wouldn't do the "S" bit twice.

I for one hope they don't make a larger screen. I am not a fan of the large phones I've seen....too big to fit in my pocket and not feel like I'm carrying a brick.

Single model or two models (GSM and CDMA)?

What's your guess: Will there be a single model of the iPhone 4S that does both GSM and CDMA, or will there be two seperate models (just like there is now for the iPhone 4)?

Hope its' true

I hope this rumor is true. I have had the EVO since November and have no complaints with the phone, but I would like to have an iPhone for the compatibility of my MacBook, iPad & :apple:TV.

My wife is a long time Sprint employee (10+ years) and the employee pricing, plus loyalty to 1/2 of our household income has kept me with their phones/plans.

Conversely, I don't need or want Apple to put costly (both in terms of money and battery life) LTE hardware into the phone which I, and probably a small majority of users the world over, are unlikely to benefit from in the phone's average 2 year lifespan.

No larger screen, no 4G, no 64 GB. The Samsung Galaxy S 2 is looking sweeter and sweeter.

Tony

The Samsung Galaxy S 2 has to be tried out yourself. My friend sold his HTC Desire HD because of the overly large screen, making it hard to unlock with one hand. Apple has poured out a huge sum of money on R&D to make the iPhone work. Not so with the SGS2.

And that's why all other companies design and sell multiple models. Apple customers - with their one model fits all - have to pay for every features whether they want it or not.

So let me get this straight...rumor is Apple is going to release the next iPhone in Sep...but the only update will be that it runs on other cell carriers. Therefore, in reality, the next update for an iPhone will be earliest Q2 2012 (Apple would wait 2 quarters at least before releasing an update of any product) which would then hopefully have some kind of new features.

So this would give Android (and others) to have all of 2011 and first half of 2012 to release more and more iPhone competitors.

Either this rumor doesn't hold any water, or Apple is just toying with disaster.

Already? Revamping a phone model after 15 months on the market is 'already'? What planet do you live on?

Roger this comment. I mean, Apple has only released a new version every 12 months since thet introduced the original iPhone. This will be the longest gap between upgrades. I guess this poster must be thinking about the Windows version OS running on his desktop.

I felt bad enough losing my 3GS earlier this week, today I committed to buy a 32GB white iPhone 4 and that made be feel a bit better. This makes me feel bad all over again. I suppose I should have seen it coming.

I need to schedule my drunken losses better :(

If it lands on the Sprint network, any chance of Virgin Mobile reeling one in? $25 a month for unlimited everything on an iPhone would pretty much kill off android phones.

Uh, no, not unless there are some significant updates to ios5

You know what they should do...just call it....

iPhone.

You know, like:

iPod
iMac
Mac Mini
Apple TV

You dot see anyone calling the latest iPod Nano the iPod Nano 6.

The reason this can't work is because two iPhone models are being sold concurrently; since the 3Gs hasn't been retired yet, it cannot be labeled as "just" an iPhone as it would be the same name as the iPhone 4. That isn't the case for the other devices. iPods are also delineated by type (ie "Shuffle," "Nano," "touch," and "Classic").

On point to this rumor though, I think it can be dismissed. Apple would not take more time to release what is essentially the same product. This would destroy their presence in the mobile market because only a blind fool would shell out hundreds of dollars for a very old product. No matter how good software might be, 18 month-old hardware (which is how old it would be in Christmas of 2011) just can't hope to compete against a slew of other phones that give customers more options at a better price.

I think it's far more likely that this naming scheme was possibly an alternative name for the Verizon iPhone.

No LTE

No LTE for Verizon in the iPhone so NO iPhone 5, although giving the gaming developers phones with the new chip just gives them more time for development and fine tuning

Then again this could all be just a really good "RUMOR"
