I think you'll find that due to their time zone, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne were the first in the world to get the 4S.

Well, there was a press conference by Apple and no further release dates announcement for the iPhone 4S.
I knew this but was hoping badly for it to get announced there oh well now I am gonna shave my balls go to the new ceo of apple and shove it

Actually the iPhone 4S was released in Australia before the US. I had my iPhone 4S hours before the Apple stores in the US even opened.

This is what I figure
1. I thought I would be the only Kiwi (Wellington) on Macrumors!
2. My friends father (i'm 14) worked for Telecom and was reasonably high up. Last year he said Apple was VERY keen to get the phone on Telecom and 2Degrees because Vodafone is TAKING A ***** LOAD OF PROFIT EXTRA THAN THE US. So it's likely its coming to another carrier. The only reason Apple chose Vodash*t was cos it was big and international.
3. 16GB is gonna be around $935, $649 US to NZ = $811 + GST = $932. Look at the new (LOL) iPod touch it's less the $2 difference between NZ and US!
Also here is a comparison between US and NZ (ALL IN NZD)

CHEAPEST AT&T PLAN
$68 - 450 any mins, 5000 n&w, 200mb, no txts = $249 iPhone
Add on's
Calling:

+$37 for 4GB and Mobile Hotspot
Txting:
