iPhone 4S... update to 5.01?

KH, get the newest TU...you can save the 5.0.1 shsh on the 4S now. no use for it now, but the dev team says we should.
 
If we update to 5.01, will it change the 1.0.11 baseband? Don't think it matters but I would like to preserve it.

thanks. guess i'm not updating to 5.01 until i hear it's safe from dev team or MN that it's ok to do it. MN did mention he might be able to unlock the 4S so i'll keep the original BB 1.0.11. no harm, no foul for now.

What is your build version for 5.0.1? Is it 9A405, or 9A406?

I read somewhere (may have been here) that the newer version Apple released around Black Friday (9A406) had a baseband update.

this has me leery of updating as I'm about to pull my 4S out of the box and switch to it. It has 5.0 on it, and I'd like to have the ability to unlock, especially if I go out of the country.

just upgraded mine to 5.01 and downloaded tiny umbrella but got this error:

when you loaded TU...that popup window...should of read.

goto advanced>uncheck the box...see image.

Why does it show I have two devices? They appear identical.

Also, should I have 2 SHSHs saved? 5.01 and 5.1b1?

it always shows two devices...no clue why. and yes, the 5.1 beta is out for devs...doesnt mean anything if your not a dev

i updated to 5.0.1 yesterday and got 405
 
iTunes

Not over the air, I did that and it made my iPhone 4s battery life worse. When I then restored it and redownloaded it from iTunes the battery life was back to normal.
 
Curious what we should do. Will want a potentially unlockable baseband for resale, but also want to be up to date for when Apple drops a new iOS.

I can't read your mind, it will be best if you can list out which Iphone you have, firmware version and its baseband.

If that is the case..

then to successfully do what I need to do, when taking an iPhone 4S out of the box that has 5.0 already installed, is:

  1. Take it out of the box,
  2. Activate it,
  3. Perform an OTA update to 5.0.1, giving me baseband 1.0.13,
  4. Wait until the JB for A5 devices is available. when it is,
  5. Jailbreak the 4S, preserving the baseband.

Sound about right? If what everyone else here is saying, 1.0.14 isn't unlockable, but 1.0.13 should be.
