I think they disabled Shazam integration for Siri on the 4S... Or I don't know how to use it...

People need to remember that the iPhone 4 was slow from the start. It has a single core CPU. Single core CPUs will always be slow on modern operating systems because of massive context switch overhead, ESPECIALLY on systems that try to do many things at once, like iOS does (mainly behind the scenes). Some other process on the phone using the CPU will cause graphics updates to not be smooth, for instance.

The move from single to dual-core computing has been the biggest update for performance in the recent history of computing when it comes to system responsiveness. For example, changing from a 2GHz to a 4GHz single CPU will not provide as much increase in responsiveness as adding a second 2GHz CPU.

This is why it's unlikely the 4S will perform really badly on iOS 8 unless it's outright sabotage by Apple. The iPhone 4 was a special case due to its outdated architecture.

The iPhone 4 was NOT slow from the outset.

I used to use one and it was very snappy. Right up to and including iOS6

How about phone calls and SMS through Mac on iPhone 4S? Have they really disabled it?

Please answer only if you're running GM and you know for sure - I don't need anybody's guesses. Thanks. :)

SMS Relay and Phone calls work. iPhone 4S iOS 8 GM.

Also there's defiantly a speed improvement from beta 5 to GM.

I'm going to mull over it for a while, I'm keeping my 4S for as long as possible, Apple's best iPhone IMO.

I'm waiting for it to download now and really torn after reading through this thread. I'm nervous about it after what iOS 7 did to my 4.

As always; full restore + set up as new iPhone = the best experience.

Same here, full restore and new device, evrything is OK. It is maybe a little bit slower than iOS 7.1.2 but overall it is OK.

Phone calls are working between my MBP 2010 and my 4S, I have not tested SMS relay yet (I don't have a lot of friends without iPhones haha).

However, I have one (nearly) unrelated question: when you set up an iPhone as a new device, is there a way to get all your old iMessages conversations to this new device? All my old iMessages are on my Mac, but only the new ones are showing up in my iPhone.

When I first installed iOS 8 on my 4s the performance was ok but through out the day it has degraded to the point of frustration.

I'd personally skip ios8...

I've also seen very noticeable bugs such as copy URL not working in safari and app windows missing in task manager.

IOS 8 seems a bit rough, despite being the GM

I have to differ; my experience has been awesome. No problems whatsoever.

simple solution.. it i m giving you this after searching all and trying it.. this is best..

i always had problems on my wifi with apple store, apps not downloading and allbut everything worked awesome on 3G..

1. Go to wifi settings.
2. click "i" infront of the connected wifi
3. see the DNS and change it to 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4

just try this appstore or itunes will never have problems..

I had to downgrade from GM to 7.1.2 as the phone was laggy and irritating everywhere. Someone please post a benchmark comparison between ios8 and ios7.1.2

I upgraded from 7.1.2. Not a good experience.. a lot of bugs.
Now I'm trying with a clean install. Crossing fingers..
