I just got off the phone with customer service at apple and was questioning why my shipping got moved back to the october 5th date. I got the usual answer of increased number of orders but what the rep did was change my shipping to next day shipping and now I will be receiving the phone on October 1st before noon. This was updated on my order already. I refreshed the page as I was on the phone and it shows a delivery date of October 1 before noon. So I think it is safe to say that the second wave of preorders will be shipping out on September 28th at the latest.

I also had an Oct. 2 delivery date; however, I decided to add applecare to my order today and got screwed over. I asked the rep if it would effect my shipping date and she said "no". Well sure enough, it pushed my delivery back to Oct. 5. I got really upset at her, despite it being only 3 days. Just thankful it wasnt 3 weeks. I originally ordered around the same time you did... 3:07 CST
I'd love to have my phone on launch day..but if it means 6 hours in line I'll just wait for Oct 5 or whenever it comes. I will check the store just to see how feasible it is and if I don't like what I see I'll just say "fugeddaboudit" (like the sign on the Brooklyn Bridge).
Are apple stores the only ones that will have them on the 21st or will all carriers have them. If I were to go to sprint and they had one on the 21st, what would I need to do to purchase the phone? Because I ordered through apple, and they have obviously used my upgrade. Can Sprint deal with this?

I would love to wake up to an earlier shipping date. That would be fantastic.
I cancelled my order with the iPhone app while walking home, as soon as I got home, I went to ATT and I was eligible for an upgrade again. Took me about 10 minutes to get home.
I ordered it for my mom through apple at 12:50am on Friday. She's getting the 16gb white for at&t.
Stores other than Apple might have some, but very few and they'll probably be gone before you get a chance at 'em. Even the Apple store is a long shot. If you find one anywhere and want to cancel your order, the consensus here is that you should use the iPhone Apple Store app to cancel it and your upgrade status will be restored within minutes.
Well I expect them to ship by September 28th considering I purchased on the 14th and it says "Ships by: 2 weeks". The hope is that it ships before that
No prob. And to clarify, when I say I went to ATT, I mean that I went home and logged onto my ATT account from home, and it said I was eligible for an upgrade.
I didn't order it for this reason, but I was hoping that having ordered the 64G would work in my favor as it seems in order of popularity it's 16G, 32G and then 64G. I see very few people ordering the 64. Apparently that didn't help at all. 
I'm probably going to hit a couple ATT stores around work on Friday after the fever dies out and see if there are options. If there's one around I'll cancel and snatch it up.

Ill let you guys know how my Radio Shack experience goes. To be honest, Im scared ******** that I wont get this phone by Sunday. I cancelled my Apple order and I just hate realizing I made the wrong decision.
I'm starting to think that this is the best move. Time will tell, but it seems physical stores are getting first in line rather than preorders. Maybe that helps with more impulse buys or something. No idea why.
I did the same thing. I figure the odds of me getting a phone before October 5 were better with the physical Apple stores, and I wanted to make sure my phone's upgrade had reset before I went to the store Friday.
Anyone of you guys trading in an old iPhone to radio shack? I think I've made up my mind to trade in my 4. That way I have a little extra cash to get some accessories.

Same status, only Oct 5th for me. Nothing has changed since the date was added last week.

Correct me if I am wrong but it seems that everyone from US is getting an Oct 5th date. Therefore, I think it is more of a rough estimate than an exact ship date. October 2-4 seems to be the international customers. I think the LATEST POSSIBLE will be October 5th and people who ordered the earliest from 1AM PST/4AM EST. Again, correct me if I am wrong.
