Just checked. Order placed at 4:06 a EST, 64GB AT&T from Apple Store App is Preparing for Shipment, still 10-5 date, but my MasterCard has the full charge pending. Progress.

I got this message on Apple's order status:

Action required: We have attempted to contact you regarding your order. Please contact us at1-800-692-7753, Option 2.

I called and the kind lady said that there's nothing to worry about. If any of you get this, it may be the same result.

Good luck.

Ordered around 4:00 PM Eastern time, card has now been charged, and preparing for shipment.

I see many posting from NJ saying they ordered after 5am and their cards have been charged. This worries me as I ordered around 5am and am in NJ and still nothing. :(

Crazy

Ordered at 4:15am on the 14th and still says the same thing as when it was ordered. Now I see people who ordered 12 hours after me saying preparing to ship. I hope mine doesnt get prepared tonight as Ive got a good feeling about my att store in the morning and I can cancel this ridiculous arbitrary back-order process through apple.

There are a number of variables in this so I wouldn't get too worried at this point. Apple is officially saying 10/5 and they very well may mean it.

For what its worth I've got an order for a Black 32GB VZ that was ordered at 3:09 Central - ahead of your time - and I'm still in processing status as well.

I was all set to go stand in line in the morning. Now, in the past hour, both of my phones have gone to "Preparing for Shipment": AT&T black phones, 64 GB and 32 GB.

Order page still says "Delivers October 5 via Standard Shipping." I have pending charges on my credit card, but not posted yet. My orders were place about 1:15 AM PST on the 14th.

I'm guessing that standing in line and purchasing tomorrow isn't even an option for me now, right? I can't cancel my online orders anymore.

I ordered mine sept 14th at 4:36AM cause AT&T site was down, mine had a authorization charge over the weekend of a $1 other than that I still have 2-week wait delivery oct 5. How come so many black iPhone's are getting updates but nobody with white iPhone's are getting anything.

White 32GB iPhone ordered 4:07 AM.. prepared for shipment. Original date was Oct 5th.

Thought I would chime in, I ordered an iPhone 5 16gb black Verizon from apple.com at 4:18am eastern on 9/14. My status has suddenly changed to "Preparing for shipment", and my credit card has been charged (listed as pending, but not an original preauthorization, as there wasn't one at the time of ordering for me, just was charged tonight). Lol Chase even sent me a fraud email tonight asking me to verify that I did indeed make that purchase.

So I'm getting the feeling we early Oct. 5th people may be getting ours next week. Either that, or they wanted to change our statuses so we couldn't go stand in line this morning and cancel the preorders, lol.

Guaranteed that the shipment won't get to us very early. Apple is definitely trying to prevent people from cancelling their preorder. The people who had their shipment scheduled for Sept 21st was able to put in their number into UPS and find their shipment right after they received the "preparing for shipment" message but we're not able to find it on there.

Also changed to Preparing for Shipment
Still waiting for it 10/2, Paris
Card not finally charged =))

If that's true I'd join "joe six pack" and get one at the store myself. That really would be nuts if someone who placed a preorder and got that ridiculous October date could simply go to the store and get it faster than Apple would have shipped it. Then you gotta wonder why they had a preorder in the first place.

What time did you order. I didn't get any email. Apple is going to have to deal with a LOT of angry customers who weren't treated fairly.

Order went through 50 minutes after pre-orders opened and it said 2-3 weeks for delivery.

Mine has updated to "Preparing to Ship" also, but I had been thinking about going to a store in the morning to try and obtain one and do the unlimited data trick (I'm a grandfathered FamilyShare plan member on Verizon).

So it's completely impossible to cancel the order now online? I'm not sure what to do now since I was figuring to just get one in person hopefully in the morning...

I check my order status and my lightning cable shipped but my iPhone 16 vzn white is preparing for shipment. I'm waiting in line at the Indy apple store anyways to see of I get a phone. I will be out of town for a week when it says I am suppose to get the 5 in the mail

Sometime during the night it went from processing to preparing to ship and my card now has a pending charge for the full amount. This is good news!

Ordered 64gb Black AT&T at 5:25am ET on the 14th.

Well ladies and gentlemen, I am out with my pre-order/back order. I went to my local Apple store this AM at 5 and am #50 in line so canceled my order and will pick one up today. Hope you all will get yours shipped soon.

PS: took about 10 minutes to get my upgrade eligibility reversed with AT&T.

Last chance apple had with me

This is officially the last time I back order from apple. Was just in line at AT&T with about 8 people ahead of me. Pulled up my order so I'd be ready to cancel on confirmation of availability. Guess what? Prepared for shipping; in two effing weeks. Can't cancel now sorry customers who forked over money sight unseen. This is one of the absolute worst buying experiences I've had with any company. This is nothing more than deception and manipulating the media. The newspapers and tech blogs don't post pics of the poor schmucks up in the middle of the night ordering phones like they do of the long lines and triumphant customers walking out of the stores with their trophies in hand.
Apple,
this is beneath you. I'm done. I'll get my phone when I get it. And next time, I'll not volunteer and pay to be a statistic in their media circus.
