I ordered at 8am EST on launch day - got the Oct 5 date but now it finally says Preparing for Shipment. My credit card shows the full amount as a pending charge (whereas before it only had $1). I'm glad to see people are actually getting shipment notifications and this wasn't just Apple's cruel way of not letting us cancel and go in store instead.

Ordered from apple, 16 white, AT&T at 6:45 pt morning of. Just updated to shipped with tracking number but no cc charges or apple email.
Just be patient. I don't think there's too much method to the madness in regards to shipping updates, emails, tracking numbers etc

Watch for CC issues. I had problems w my iP4 order back in the day with AT&T Premier for a random fraud check. Delayed everything because their fraud dept was swamped and backed up. Supervisor finally fixed things but missed the day 1 delivery by a week even though I ordered in the first 15 mins. That's why I just order thru apple.com and have had no issues since.
One weird thing now. I had 2 APPLE pending charges on the CC (during the Processing and Preparing phases) but now nothing at all (shipped from China via ups).

I ordered a 32GB Black ATT at 3:50am EST and its still Processing. Hopefully it will ship by the end of the day.
If you ordered 16gb, the demand is greater.
I ordered 32gb, and it shipped. A Friend of mine ordered 16gb earlier than me and he did not get any shipment notification yet.
I woke up this morning to "preparing for shipment" update on my order page. No change as of yet (nor an email from Apple). I do have the full amount charged on my credit card.

Still 'processing' (7:53AM EST order of a 64gig black AT&T), but finally see that $1 charge on my card. Patience is a virtue....
Called and got thru to apple. She said she anticipates anyone who is at preparing to ship to ship today with delivery on 9/27. PS, you cannot cancel through phone support after preparing to ship either. Bummer. Could've had one today but I guess waiting until next Thurs is way better than 10/5

I ordered about this same time you did and also got Oct 5. I was going to go to the ATT store today and try to switch out but I got a notification last night saying apple has charged my account, so I couldn't (bummer). But I got an email this morning saying my iPhone has shipped. I'm guessing I'll get it next friday. Hope you're in the same boat!
Seems the 16 black are in short supply and that is why some of us are not getting past the processing phase. Thats my guess anyway.
I ordered a white & black 32gb through Apple at 3:10am CT and I got a shipped email this morning for just the white phone with a delivery date of 9/27. The black one, which I ordered first, is still showing processing. Hopefully, for my husband, it will also ship today or he's going to be pretty jealous on Thursday!!

I placed an order for a 32GB Black model at 1:29AM Pacific on the 14th and it showed as Available to Ship in 2 weeks with Delivery on October 5th.
As of this morning, now showing Preparing for Shipment.
