One in hand, one on order
Last Friday ordered two phones from apple.com. Tried to order at 12a pacific time, but couldn't. Went to bed. Finally ordered around 5a:
Order #1 - 9.14 5:14AM, 16GB Black AT&T
Order #2 - 9.14 5:02AM, 16GB Black AT&T
Earlier this week received the notice the CSS notice from AT&T for both orders. Both orders also changed to Oct5 for delivery.
No additional update to either order until last night.
Order #1 - Credit card was charged. Status changed to preparing for shipment.
Order #2 - No charge, not change to status. Still processing and could be canceled.
This morning I decided to go by the AT&T store to see if I could score a phone. My plan was to cancel apple.com once I had one in hand.
I showed up at 8a at the AT&T store. The wait to get in was 1:15 minutes. A guy had driven over the from the Apple store and said the line and wait was way worse.
When I got in, then had one black left - a 64GB, but white in every size. They said black was by far the most popular.
I pulled up the apple web site and canceled order #2. The AT&T agent waited patiently, but after 10 minutes their systems still hadn't updated. Now I had the last black phone in the store in my hands but they wouldn't let me upgrade. Fortunately, I had another line on my account that was a week away from being eligible and the manager made an exception.
Now I wish I didn't cancel my other order. Oh well.
Be careful if you are doing the cancel and then purchase route real-time. The agent told me it could take 24 hours for their systems to update.
