For those that tracked with their phone number, how exactly did you do that? When I go to UPS I see no option to put in a phone number?

Go to the shipment tracking page on UPS’ website and click the Track By Reference menu item in the left column.

In the Shipment Reference field, enter the phone number that’s associated with the shipment. This may or may not be the cell number on the iPhone – it might be the number associated with your billing address.

Select the destination country and then fill in the destination ZIP code (or Postal Code if you’re outside the U.S.). Click Track

iPhone 5 16GB, White / AT&T
Ordered: 9/14th at 1:05AM (after both Apple.com and AT&T crashing on me for a full hour.)
Status: Processing.
Available to ship: 2 weeks
Delivers: Oct 5 via Standard Shipping

No hold on card, nothing. Just "Processing," since the 14th.

Ridiculous.

An hour later, Preparing for Shipment.

Let's see how long until it's actually shipped!

I feel like such an idiot -- I should've cancelled my phone before it went to preparing for shipment.

The line at the Apple store was minimal -- half hour wait max. My husband got his 32GB white VZN with no problem. The Apple reps and the Verizon reps said the same thing -- you can't cancel and buy your phone here. Lose the new line discount and would have to pay full price, then return the late phone or a loss of $200.

I am never pre-ordering again unless it is guaranteed to be here on launch day.

Mine was slated for October 5th, I was sort of disappointed but it's not like a big deal (it's just a phone...) or something to cry over. Today I checked the order page and it says shipped from China. Woo hoo!

Same here. Not one person should have been able to walk into a store today and leave with a phone when there are untold thousands of people who have already paid and get nothing.
Went to att store today and was waiting to get a phone (bout 8 people ahead of me) when what do you know? "prepared for shipment" no canceling and buying a phone for me. Complete BS. This was a pitiful way to treat customers.

I wish I lived in an area like some of you. I'm in the land of nothing but 16G white iPhones in stock. There's not even a mention of a 64G anywhere. My order status is still at processing. If I could find a 64G black in Orange County, that'd be like finding Hoffa's body or a leprechaun.

I preordered the iphone 5 32gb black at&t version an hour after it went on sale. For the last 10 days it showed as processing and delivers October 5th but today i got an email that confirms my order has shipped and delivers on September 27. :D

Nice. Ordered the same phone at the same time. No shipping yet. This is the last time I pay to be a statistic for apple to tout their huge "pre-order" numbers when its *********. They get to brag about 2 mil preorders AND put all the phones on store shelves so they can get all the media clamoring to get pictures of the lines of people waiting and then leaving with the phones that should have been sent to the people who ordered them and paid for them already.

Basically what they did was sell these phones twice. They "sold" them to us so they can talk about huge preorder numbers but said we had to wait, then they sold them to people walking in off the street all day.

My brother ordered 5 minutes before me and he still hasnt received the shipping email yet. He ordered the 16gb version however so im figuring the 16gb sells faster.

There was an abundance of 64gb in either color at the Reno-Tahoe Apple store this morning.

The only one they were sold out of by 10am PDT was the 32gb black Verizon.

CC charged last night ~11-11:30 pm est. changed to preparing for shipment sometime in the early AM hours. Still on that stage now, hoping it ships by tomorrow so I can get it next week

Black 16gb VZW

Pending AmEx charge since late last night.... Switched to preparing to ship, overnight. So been preparing to ship for 12+ hours now.
I note that in China, it's approximately Saturday 5 am -- Do they ship outgoing from China on Saturdays? Sundays?

Hoping it actually gets shipped today or tomorrow.

Next cargo flight to Hong Kong is at about noon local time:

From there there are lots of flights leaving to Anchorage that it could get on.

I ordered 3 phones in total. i ordered 2 of them last night when pre-orders for the iPhone started here in Sweden. The Telia website bogged down part way through my original order so I began an order with 3. However, I really wanted to be with Telia so, even though the 3 order went through without a hitch, I still went through with the Telia order (even though it took over an hour of constant page refreshes to get the order finalized!). Those two initial phones were white 32gb phones. All day today I have been second-guessing the choice of white together with the fact that the contract wasn't the one I really wanted. A little research showed that 3 actually has a faster connection than Telia. So today I placed a third order for a black 32gb model with the correct contract. So to recap, here is what I have coming:

White 32gb (wrong contract) with Telia arriving on Sept. 28th
White 32gb (wrong contract) with 3 arriving on Sept. 28th
Black 32gb (right contract) with 3 arriving Oct. 5th

The first two will be sent back to the providers and I'll keep the black model. I would have cancelled the previous orders but neither Telia not 3 allow orders to be cancelled. They have to be shipped to the customer and either 1) refused and returned or 2) accepted but returned.

Basically what they did was sell these phones twice. They "sold" them to us so they can talk about huge preorder numbers but said we had to wait, then they sold them to people walking in off the street all day.

Gotta agree here. They basically put an extremely limited supply on "preorder" and then let the mass bulk of their inventory hit the stores for release day. Anyone that didn't meet the tiny "preorder" window became a "backorder" marketing story.

That'd be awesome. Apparently the 64G's are hot down here.

Why don't you grab one of those, then exchange it for the 64gb when they get them in stock?

If you want comfort, mine hasn't even shipped yet and you don't have my husband waving his iPhone 5 around in your face saying "neener neener neener!" -- which is what I currently have to endure. :p

I can hold out, but I am in the same boat. My wife's 32G arrived today. I'll be setting it up for her when she gets home from work. :(

Welp, next year plan a weekend in Tahoe for the launch!

People drove up here as far away as Bishop, CA and I think the people behind us were from Idaho. Crazy.

That's a little more dedicated than I can be. Awesome for them tho. At least somewhere has some phones in stock. Maybe they could take a couple and fill some preorders. :)

True. They should have been fair about it. They should not allow pre-orders at all and make everyone go stand in line on launch day. That way it's first come, first serve and that's it. None of this pre-allocating stock to stores before the preorders even go live! How are they supposed to know how many will pre-order! It's BS Man! FIGHT THE POWER MAN!

Seriously though, are you people new to this? It happens this way every year. If you want it launch day and the pre-orders are out, go to the local AT&T or VZN or Sprint store. Or go stand in line at your local Apple store. Or get over it and realize you won't get your phone that day. YOU HAD OPTIONS. Just because you couldn't take advantage is not Apple's fault.

Not everyone has the option to stand in a few hours + line on launch day. I have a job, so preordering was my best option at the time. If the preorders fell to backorder status, then why randomly fill those orders? I see orders that were placed after mind for the same device and carrier get filled yet mine remains processing.

So all in all, I chose not to simply "get over it" but I appreciate the suggestion.
