disappointed

Ordered 64GB at 00:15 pst got 21st delivery confirmation, a couple of hours later delivery changed to October 5, no CC charges except authorization, still "processing items"
I am sick of jumping through Apple's hoops, I don't understand why I haven't received any further information from Apple, delivery on the 21st seems hit or miss, and I missed.
Instead of opening preorders at 3:00a.m est 00:00 pst, whay not make it fair to all, and open preorders at 12:00 pst/09:00 est, so even more people can be backordered...

It seems there is no way to get it before Oct.
It is already Tues and still no charge on card.
So disappointment..:(

I think customers should be compensated for having to wait..In the form of a discount. If they knocked $50 off the price it wouldn't be quite as bad.

I placed two separate orders at Apple.com at 5:18am EDT and both orders have delivered by Oct 3rd. They did a preauthorize on my card but haven't charged me. 1 Black 16GB and 1 White 16GB.

To be fair to everyone they should have just set everyone's date to Oct 5 and no Sept. 21 shipments at all.

That will be the day, when Apple acknowledges the customer... but I like your idea because it would do wonders for Apple's reputation, not too mention my pocketbook.

I know..Like God forbid they should actually show some respect for the customer.

I've sometimes been compensated at fast food restaurants when they failed to deliver 'fast food' in a timely fashion. It's not at all unreasonable for Apple to do the same.

Really? When we clicked pre-order it was -- unless you're on the bubble for when dates shipped -- pretty darn clear our iPhones wouldn't get to us until October 5. We clicked acceptance.

I didn't see that date till the email came to confirm the order..at which point it was already done. I would never have placed the order if I had known about that date. I used the Apple Store app to place the order from my phone.

Have to chime in here too. I ordered off the iPhone app as well, since the site was having issues. I never saw a date until the following day as to what my delivery date was. Not sure it would have made a difference. I might have ordered directly from ATT if I'd have known. It was still early (4am).

Just got off the phone with Apple (about a shipping question and asked about delivery time). The person said that there isn't any way they can expedite shipping, or move up the date in any way and basically the dates are set.

My phone I ordered at 6:30 am launch day (Eastern) will ship in 2 weeks, and will arrive October 5, just like the Apple order status page says :(.

yeah, that's why I clarified it with "on the bubble", which the 4AM EST people seem to be.

In my case at 0530, it was already well into "ships in 2 weeks".

So, yeah, I think you guys have a point. In my hindsight, going through ATT might have been better, but I trusted Apple's dates a little more. I could see ATT taking my money and then doing a "oops, our bad. Sorry you're getting your iPhone in October anyway."

These were supposed to be pre-orders, the idea of which is to ensure delivery on launch day. The fact that I placed pre-order and was given a ship date which made the pre-order pointless entitles me, as the customer to some sort of compensation since I had no way of knowing that at the time of the order. To me that counts as deception since I had a reasonable expectation that a preorder would result in getting the product on launch day and Apple failed to live up to it.

I'd like to add that the sudden jump of the delivery date from the originally expected 9/21 to 10/5 adds to the annoyance. I think most of us would have an easier time with this if the date just slipped to the following week, but to miss some cutoff that none of us was aware of and have to wait nearly 3 weeks is quite unreasonable.

Agreed. Where did the 24th-28th go? I haven't seen anyone that ordered from Apple.com with those dates. The earliest I've seen is the 2nd. I'm hoping this is going to be a case of under promise/over deliver. That would be really nice.

Sucks

Confirmation email @ 3:55 am EST
Black/32GB
Delivery Oct 5th?

figured I might be okay within the first hour...WRONG!

Should've bought thru ATT

From a customer's perspective, the whole Apple "preorder" process feels like a ruse. The expectation of "preordering" something, in this case the iPhone 5, explicitly denoted a shipment/delivery timeframe, that at the time of placing an order did not specify otherwise, not until after the fact.
Had Apple provided a disclaimer regarding shipment delays, I think most people whose orders are scheduled to arrive October 5th, at least would have been aware of a preorder backorder, but that was not the case.
I just feel used by Apple, and considering the amount of revenue generated by most of Apple's customer's, you would think that Apple would at least apologize?

Its just a phone. Cancel your order if you dont like it.

My bet is they are using those dates to restock the stores. Which, if it's true, generally sucks. Or, up until this week they are still filling supplies for Friday and it's going to take them a week to create the batch of phone for October 5. They October 5 orders will probably ship out the 1st or 2nd.

Moving on. I think my biggest issue with this thing is the gap. Site problems is the reason I ordered late, but I still ordered late. 4:48AM is "late" Fine. I don't get my phone on the 21st. But why do I suffer the same fate as someone who just woke the **** up at their normal time, brushed their teeth, and decided to sit down and order an iPhone? A week delay? Fine. 2 weeks? WTF?

Its just weird to me. And it makes me think preordering was useless. And for this to be my first preordering experience, it makes me never want to do it again.

iPhone 5 16gb AT&T Black
Ordered on Sept 14th at 5:30 am EST
Processing at two weeks and a Oct.5th delivery date via standard shipping

Skipped the 4s but for the 4 I walked up to an ATT store the day of preordering. Was in and out in under an hour. Came back release day and was probably about 10-15 minutes and all was well. I figured with Apple.com and shipping to me it'd be even easier since they should have all the stock in the world. Oops.

That's why I feel the customers should be compensated either by refunding, say, $50 to the card they used, or by offering a free accessory of similar value. That would be a sign of good faith on Apple's part. I have a feeling they might get sued over this debacle once he dust settles.

If McDonald's can compensate me for slow service (which they have several times, usually by a free food item) Apple could certainly do the same.
