You can always cancel it and take a chance at a Apple store on release.

Its just a phone guys there is no reason to get this worked up. I know, I know its your own hard earned money blah blah blah. Still its a phone.

So relax take a deep breath. If you are so worried about the day your phone will come you need to set your priorities straight when there are BABIES starving in Africa. People getting leprosy and not even having the resources to get antibiotics which cures is.

Although I understand what you mean here, and in the grand scheme of things a phone isn't worth getting worked up for, but by this arguement we all should have donated the money to charity instead of getting the phone.

For the record, I'm not worked up. I'm passing the time and hoping that between those of us that are saddled with an Oct 5th date can help each with information or a better plan. That's all. It's about helping.

Plus, Oct 5 give Apple just enough time to repackage all the phones delivered on Friday but are returned for yellow screen, blue screen, bleeding, quirky home buttons, questionable battery life . . . and sell them to us!

 Hey, just kidding, really!

Up until this morning I had a Delivers Oct 5 date. It has now changed to Delivers 9/21. Order confirmation received at 3:54 a.m. EST on Friday the 14. Still says processing though

I had the same thing happen to me as well. Verizon messed up my pre-order from Friday morning, and I guess I complained enough and now my date is 9/21. Still no tracking info tho

oh.

Am I to believe that apple will not have stock in stores until after the 5th?

One's priorities are relative to where you are. The plight of people in Africa or elsewhere is irrelevant to this discussion since it might as well be another planet. The problems of people in our world are just as important to them as the problems of inhabitants of other worlds are within their own world.

After the campers have exhausted the stock on hand at the stores it might be a while before they get any more. I have a feeling if you get on line on Friday during normal business hours there will already be no phones left.

I dont think that are "problem" is as big of a problem as theirs. Actually I am positive of that.

Want me to add how much I've donated? And volunteered?

I finally got through to Apple at 433am ET and had an Oct 5 delivery. Then got through to AT*T-same deliver date.So yesterday I went to Radio Shack and ordered mine for Friday oickup and cancelled both orders.Clowns at AT&T didn't even ask why.Apple did.All the naysayers about Radio Shack from last year-forget it.Different ordering system this year.
So while all those folks with orders delivering this Friday and obsessing over it,which amazes me,tracking the flight and exact location,as if it matters, get on with your life.Yes,I read both the Apple and AT&T threads until today,I am amazed. And all the issues about credit cards, ect.
In fact the RS I ordered from only had 12 5s available to sell, total. And when I left at 11am,they still had a few of those 12 unspoken for.As did 3 other stores in my area.So no more late night orders for me.And I'll get my phone earlier than most if I decide to wake up that early and drive 15 minutes to the store.
Just talked to the store and they still have Verizon phones available for Friday pickup. No more AT&T or Sprint.

Just got off the phone with 2 Radio Shacks.

The first was out. The second still had pre-orders. TODAY IS THE LAST DAY. For anyone who is considering this option. Check with your radio shack.

She basically said that I put down a $50 deposit and IF they have my phone on Friday, I can come get it. She said theres only a slim chance they wont have my phone.

And she said that if they dont have it on Friday, they'll have it Saturday or Sunday. So Im gonna head there after work and get the deposit, I don't want to cancel my Apple order just yet though.

Ugh. Why am I so stressed! LOL.

The funny thing is that our "pre-orders" were essentially a marketing tactic. Solid pre-order numbers directly drive strong, initial sales on release date.

However, traditional pre-orders usually guarantee immediate delivery upon release to early customers. In this case, only the extremely early customers.

On a lighter note, this whole situation reminds me of the Louis C.K. piece on "Hilarious" about cell-phones: http://youtu.be/KpUNA2nutbk

Come on people: this is a cell-phone that's not even built yet, that is going to be delivered to your house, and then you can talk to space! I hate Apple!!

bwahahahaha

Same thing happened with me. Ordered at 3:52am EST 9/14. It was 10/5 all weekend until last night it changed to "delivers 9/21" but still processing..now its preparing for shipment.

Lucky you! I hope they get me mine on the 28th atleast. I have a feeling I wont have to wait all the way to Oct 5. Im sure they are pressuring the factoreis to produce as many as possible.

Hopefully no defects in mine or it would take a while to get a new one..
