I took my 15 month old iPhone 5 to an apple store Genius Bar as it was cutting out even though it was at about 25% capacity.

I thought I might have to pay £55 to have the battery replaced as I had not bought Applecare, but they said as I bought it from them they would replace the battery for free, they mentioned something about them covering the cost due to European legislation.

So, if you have a failing battery, and bought your phone directly from Apple, and live in Europe, hopefully you can get a free battery replacement.

Haven't checked this thread I started it ages ago, shocked to see so many replies.

In the end I bought a replacement through iFixit. Around £35 I think it was for the battery and kit to fit it myself (phone was out of warranty).

Battery life has been brilliant since!

Well, my iPhone 5's battery seems OK, but I've noticed that my iPad mini's battery life isn't what it used to be. Is it just in my head, or is the battery going bad?

75 cycles and the iPad is just under a year old.

Just replaced the battery

Launch day iPhone 5
How does mine look?

I finally got the courage to open this phone up and get the job done.
You can see above what my battery capacity was...yikes...
Well, I got the replacement battery from ifixit, but its been sitting in the box for the last week waiting on me to get it done.
It was a cinch to get the phone open (i didn't take the screen completely off), but it was a pain in the a$$ to get the battery off of the glue. I pretty much destroyed the old battery getting it out.
Popped in the new battery, closed everything up and charged it.
Here are my replacement battery specs:

Is that good for a replacement battery?

No, it's not good, but wait another 10-15 cycles and test it again.

Thanks!
I'll let you know in a few more cycles what it looks like.
So far, the battery has been much better than the old on (of course).
But yeah I was a little disappointed that the brand new replacement wasn't 100% capacity.

Not bad :)

I only charge it when my battery reaches 0% and I make sure that is completely charged before unplugging it again (around 5 hours).

Also another tip, I make sure I disable Facebook in the notification center. I mean disable EVERYTHING including the Badge App Icon. Mu usage time used to be around 6 hours but with Facebook disabled, its around 9 hours now. It used to much longer on iOS 6 (like 12 hours) but iOS 7 decreased the battery life. Hopefully its fixed with the iOS 7.1 update.

Surprised that your battery is as good as it is. LiIon batteries don't like constant deep discharges. Well in your case, always. Yes if you're away from a power source, just use the battery is the situation demands. But really topping off the battery whenever is fine.

Re-Tested

I was curious and couldn't wait so I tested it again today.
It's looking much better I think.

My life is basically a nomadic one - iPhone charger to charger. Always in search of an outlet or spare cord to get a precious few percent increase. 90% of the time, I am running on 20% or less battery. Alas... such is life.

iPhone 5, purchased in Fall of 2012...Very happy with the battery life!
