Some people take this "loving their phone" a little too far. A phone is like a car, you drive it to the ground and beat the crap out of it... as long as it works, it's good. I just use a screen protector because if you can't see the screen it's useless.

I once saw a grown man cry when his iPhone 4(something) got a huge scratch on the back. I cried too, because I almost lost all faith in the human race, because of people who cry over inanimate objects.

I just cleaned my I-phone, I am a welder, and a mechanic, not to mention a real crippled klutz, no scratches,, no dings. Looks like brand new and still works too! Longest I've ever owned a phone that still works, Was thinking about a different case, but, I think I'll keep the Otter. If I used it without the dcase I'd drop it in a minute.

 Do NOT do that. Magic Eraser's are like sand paper (very very fine grit mind you), but it is an abrasive. And considering all the post's about "scuff gate" you could very easily end up doing more damage.

BUT I will say. OP it sounds like you have done nothing to actually try and remedy the problem yourself. What have you actually done so far? Just use a dry microfiber towel? I see people making suggestions and you just saying no, or ignoring them. It very well could just be residue.

IKlear, Isopropyl alcohol, quick detailer, on a GOOD microfiber towel would be safe things to try.

Right now you sound like a spoiled brat. Why don't you try to fix the problem yourself first (even though it does look like Otterbox's fault), before throwing a temper tantrum.

Yeah how about not exadurating next time...

It is nowhere near 'like sandpaper'. And if you're doing it hard enough to scratch the phone, that's your problem.

Oh yeah, and f&@$ "scuffgate".. That term was made up by immature kids.

If nobody else is reporting this, why would you blame Otterbox? Could this very well be poor anodization that is wearing differently based on what's touching it? Who's to say ANY case wouldn't have done the same thing.

But no, you go sue their pants off... I hope they lol and rotf while they bbq

Do you mean exaggerating? Also, it's an abrasive... It cleans by literally scratching off dirt and debris.

Also, nice language... going to assume you are one of the said immature kids.

Of course he is. We really need to divide these forums by either age or IQ points, dealing them is exhausting.

Responded from my phone. Sorry for the incorrect spelling.

Well unless you have personally tried it, like I have.. I'm sure you are speaking only on assumptions and speculation.

I've had to do this on mine and it worked great. No scratches or marks of any kind either.

And to accuse me of being immature, when you right away jump to insulting someone just because of one misspelled word by mistake is being mature?

I love when the wimpy 'kids' get on a forum and talk **** behind a monitor and keyboard so they don't have to face the person.

Ill let you feel tough. God knows this is the only way for you.

Good day to you sir.

When I had the iPhone 5 Black I was also using the Otterbox Defender case. I had a similar issue as the OP, but I was able to rub it off using a microfiber cloth.

honestly you come off as someone who doesn't have much of a social life and still uses nokia flip phones from like 10 years ago. That person that sits in the back of the class muttering under their breath about how people are stupid for not answering a question in AP calculus.

Definitely try getting a bottle of cell phone screen cleaner, and spray a little bit on a microfiber cloth and then wiping the back down.

I keep my iPhone 5 in an iPod sock.

The "ribs" of the stock have put a pattern in my black iPhone 5 back very similar to the Otterbox.

My phone looks like it has pin striping. ha. It is NOT damage. It is not a scratch.

It is like it caused a discoloration?

I tried Quick Detailer (love the stuff), but it did not help at all. It doesn't even try to rub out.

I may try to switch to a neoprene pouch that won't have ribs, so it would at least put this colorization change evenly hopefully.

Nevertheless, it's a very odd problem. If even a soft sock causes this change in color, I do have to wonder how our phones will look in a year?

If anyone finds a way to fix the discoloration, I will be sure to stay posted!

Picture or it didn't happen.

Commuter Does It Too!

I put my OtterBox Commuter on for 5 minutes and when I took it back off I had the small ring around the apple logo on my iP5. I decided then I wasn't using that case anymore. Took several wipes with a damp cloth to finally remove it the circle.

If you don't plan on using the screen protector that came with it on the actual screen, cut it and put it over the back. It keeps it from getting any damage around the logo.

Funny thread I gotta say! Legal action lol

It's a freaken phone dude

Your right it's a phone and that's your opinion however, Some of us like to keep our phones looking nice and not all messed up.

So if that's the case then we should all walk around in raggedy clothes and broken shoes then?

We should essentially not take pride in owning everything since it doesn't matter if things are damaged or not.

Lemme tell you this the beauty of taking of your phone or anything is resale value. I get a new iphone every year because typically I will have an upgrade on one of my lines. But also because I take care of my iphone and can sell it and get a lot of cash for it.

No one wants to buy something that looks like *****

Hi I've got a white iPhone 5 and also have the marks. That I can't remove. Also 'otter box' has printed in black on it!!! Luckily I managed to rub most of it off. The other thing I've noticed is an oil like substance inside the rubber coating? Surely that can't be good either?

I had a similar issue with a defender, I used electronic wipes and wiped it off with a little pressure and it eventually came off good as new!
