The only white iPhone I have had was my 3GS and with the iPhone 5 I am completely torn on which one to buy. I think black will show more scratches, but I also think the back looks better on the black. AHHHH decisions, decisions.

......after all we've seen umpteen amount of leaks over the months...we all knew what was coming...so these announcements are becoming boring..the iPhone will not take a radical change in style...because its pretty much perfect...but people get bored...remember when the first iPhone come out..That was awesome...but now, there becoming sickly with the "we've created something fannnntasssticccc" phrase are stomach churning with all the whoop whoop and clapping...my 4gs will be fine with ios6 me thinks.

Leaks have slowly ruined the excitement behind the keynotes. Everyone wants to be the first to break the new images and info to the point that by the time the product is revealed, we have all seen it. The excitement will be back when an entirely new device is released. As for the creating something fantastic line, the fact that apple feels that about their products is good. When they stop trying to make or improve something to make it fantastic is when Apple is in trouble.

Same price as the 4S unlocked.

Looking at the UK apple store the 16Gb iPhone 5 is £529. The 4S used to be £499 didn't it? In which case that's a £30 (or $50) increase.

Interestingly they've already dropped the 4S to £449 making it £80 (or $130) cheaper than the 5 now, and looking like a bargain.

I'm upgrading from a 3G and am seriously considering the 4S instead of the 5. It's still a massive upgrade and really, the design just is more accomplished. The bands and camera positioning on the back of the 5 look off to me.

Don't get me wrong I'm sure it's a great phone, but I have this feeling that the 4S represents the last of their great, Job's era, products no matter what people say about him being involved with the 5.

Thinner, Lighter, Faster. More of the same. iPhone 4SS.

Zzzzzzzzzzz

Well,

I think what Apple have done is pretty amazing. People complaining about the upgrades to the hardware and feeling underwhelmed should look at what Samsung did when they upgraded the SII to the SIII.

Although the design is quite similar, it's still the best looking phone on the market and the proportions are just right.

The underwhelming factor is the use of all the leaks...that's what kills it for me...when I saw the galaxy s111 I was impressed..only because I hadn't trolled Samsung sites to see leaks....we need a bit of excitiment...SO STOP THE LEAKS! for heavens sake.

Yes, agreed. No surprises makes it less exciting but no less amazing as a product. People are really spoilt nowadays and want something mind blowing again like in 2007. Apple are in a comfort zone but I don't think there is anything wrong with the product.

SGS III Upgrade was not earth shattering!

Yes, SGS III was underwhelming with its evolutionary upgrade from SGS II. But Samsung has done it once but if they try again, they will fail whereas Apple is trying this approach many times and so far succeeding in terms of number of phones being sold. Nokia & Microsoft pursued this path for sometime thinking that there will not be anyone to conquer them but finally someone like Apple cracked it. So it is just a matter of time.

You saw how fast he was taking those pictures? Damn!
Next week the white one is mine.
Most companies can't do white product right. The quality of the coloring has to be effing perfect. But you know the white one will be gone fast as hell. Backordered!

Apple has become so good at dazzling us with new and exciting products that people expect this to happen at every keynote. Sites like Macrumors also ruins the fun for us with all these leaks. So when everyone knows what's coming and they get an evolutionary upgrade, they become underwhelmed. Apple can't always bring out new and exciting products - most companies don't. A lot of times, it's just refining a product to make it better and better, which the iPhone 5 is. I think apple nailed it with the design of the iPhone 4 and incremental upgrades just make this phone better and better.

My problem right now is whether to get white or black! Both look absolutely stunning. Decisions, decisions........

To each their own. :) This is why apple is making both models. :D

I don't know which one to get now. White or Black.:confused:

Roll the dice and be happy! :) (or buy two) LOL.

Did they mention anything about the unlocked being available at launch?

No, but it's apparently on the canadian website: "Unlocked iPhone5 from $699."

That iPhone looked so much faster in the video! Way more of a difference than 4->4S. It also looks like the animations were sped up like in ifakeclockup. Anyone else think so?

....Videos have always been prettied up to make it seem much more impressive. I am sure Apple did shortened sequences in that video.

Perhaps, but impressive nevertheless; That A6 plus they're obviously also on LTE.

- "The biggest change, literally, is the larger screen. Here, I'm thankful that Apple opted not to go wider. Samsung's Galaxy S3 is too big for my taste and I think Apple is right to say that the width of the iPhone is right for the average hand."

I'm glad someone talked about this. I'm really torn between one-hand operation and wider screen now I'm somewhat convinced. :p

Fandroid

An Android fan who goes on all forums to disparage every other phone OS (Windows Mobile, iPhone, Blackberry, WebOS, Symbian, etc.) and end up proselytizing Android. They are extremely annoying and should be dismissed.

They do not represent typical Android users.

Typically use all caps when writing "Android" and will usually replace the "o" with a zero.

"ANDROID FTW" is the standard calling tag.

Don't know what that techcrunch guy is talking about, but my personal experience is that the aluminum they use on the macbook pro's are really prone to dents when you drop them. So I really don't think it'll be more durable because it's made out of aluminum.

It depends on the force used. With little force, aluminium and plastic will be undamaged. Then there is some higher level where aluminium will dent, and plastic will spring back. Then there is some even higher level where plastic will break, and aluminium won't.

Now for falls, the MBP is more than ten times heavier than the iPhone 5, but the aluminium isn't ten times thicker. So dropping from the same height, iPhone should handle it better.

I actually thought all the leaks were just fakes because Apple used to be so good at keeping a tight lid on what was coming out.. Guess they can't control that much anymore or the leaks are on purpose

The fact that the new phone is thinner is not that big of a deal with me. The 20% lighter however is.

As you know force=mass X acceleration. So when you drop this new iPhone, it will hit the ground 20% softer (not slower).

I think that the lighter these phones get, all things else being equal, they will become more resistant to breakage.

Why didn't Apple just make an aluminum raised lip around the glass- kind of like the bumper but in metal.

Then when the phone hits the ground screen first, it is more likely to hit the metal lip than the glass- decreasing shattering.

Looking forward to Pre ordering

I have never owned an iPhone and coming from the original Droid I am quite excited for the iPhone 5 :)

I opened the full res versions in Photoshop (3264 x 2448). They are sufficient to make an 8 x 10 @ 300 dpi print, and what I would expect from an 8 Mp camera.

Viewed at actual pixel size it looks as you suggest but that would be considerably larger than my 27 inch monitor, though I could print that out on my Epson 7900.

Sorry, I'm not seeing what you are at normal viewing sizes.

What I'm seeing in those grass strokes, water, brush, etc all don't have much detail at all at full res. They look like they have a 'artistic' filter applied to them. It's not a detailed/or nice looking image at all.

Those of you who are underwhelmed by the iPhone 5 due to the technology used in it, you do realize that you are in a very tiny percentage of the population, don't you? I told my wife, who is not tech savvy, and has wanted a smart phone for a while, that the new iPhone was announced today. I told her it had a faster processor and a new larger screen. She looked at me with a blank expression. Then I told her it was thinner and lighter. She replied "Let's get it". Her needs in a phone are something that looks stylish, is thin and light (she has very small hands), and works well with the Apple world (we have a MBP and an iPad). I believe that her needs match those of the majority of the population, which is also why I predict this phone to enjoy similar success to what the other iPhones have enjoyed.
