they could of used this all back aluminum back on the iphone why did they make it glass/aluminum/glass? the touch looks nice like that c'mon apple!

Supposedly, the aluminum is for the antenna. I only vaguely know how cell antennas work.

Bored? No, i'm way too busy to be bored.

I wanted a radical redesign because i think the iPhone 4 design is ergonomically poor, I wanted more curves or rounded edges. To be honest, the iPhone 3G/S felt much better in the hand than the 4/S.

I was hoping for a 3GS and 4S kind of mix, maybe we'll see that for iPhone 6.

Well in the product video Jony Ive said they started with a design they love so my guess is the stainless steel band is here to stay.

I'm in the same boat, not eligible for an upgrade 'till June 2013.... unless I want to pay full price or try and get out of my contract (which would actually be cheaper than paying full price).

As far as iOS 6 goes, I've been using the developer betas and am downloading the GM right now... it's slick. There's a couple UI changes you'll need to get used to but I think it's a great improvement over iOS 5 (not that iOS 5 was bad).

I can be patient and wait till next September or when ever the next iphone is released.

Does anybody else feel as though the iPhone 5 specs are somewhat mediocre? Not to say they're bad at all, they certainly look good, but dang... Some of these "new" features just scream Android 2011 to me.

Thinner, Lighter, Faster. More of the same. iPhone 4SS.

Does anyone have an idea what time Apple will allow the pre-orders for the iPhone 5 on Friday? i.e. Will it be midnight (eastern time or Pacific time)? Won't to know so I can set my alarm and get my order in before shipping delays start.

In case no one answered you pre-orders begin at midnight pacific time. That's 3 am eastern:(. I may as well just stay up rather than go to bed at my normal time and get up a couple of hours later.

Any reason Apple doesnt stretch out the iPhone line a little more? As in having a 3.5 and 4 and a 4.5 inch model.

Just bi-curious.

Is it just me or is the guy demoing the phone moving way too fast?

I'm guessing with an Apple employee/handler guiding the process, they had a very limited time. It was too fast, but I think they did the best they could with a monitored demo.

Ah, the more cultured British accent. But think about it. Is it spelt "Aloominum"? No, the "u" is fully pronounced, so the Brits have it right!

BTW, so do us Aussies ;)

I actually read that there was an original spelling of aluminum (like the current) then it was later changed to aluminium, you know, like titanium, selenium (mostly just for the sound :) ) and the pronunciation of the later spelling (which was eventually changed _back_ to aluminum) depending on where you were and who was currently in charge of standardizations.

Here's a couple of articles:

Yeah I'm so disappointed.

So this is how doubling security works for Apple. Remind me to not rely on any of these goons for anything to do with security.

Christ what a disappointment. Angels will fly out of my arse before I believe this is innovation.

I was more excited about the new iPod touch, but once the price was revealed, off contract, iPhone 5 is not that much more expensive, but better everything. Which is the better deal?

But why did the headphone jack have to move? That's where my hand goes...

Because they finally got the connector small enough that the jack can go where it was always supposed to go, where logic dictates it should go, and where phones being pulled from pockets all over the world will rejoice its being.

No more acrobatics to get the phone up the right way, no more ridiculous cable going away from you when it should be coming towards you - still the best new feature in the 5 ... nay the best feature change iPhone has seen since iPhone.

Finger stretching is a big one for me. I don't like bigger screens due to have to stretch out fingers, but if it works that your finger will reach everywhere, ok. But still 3.5" would have still been better.

Videos have always been prettied up to make it seem much more impressive. I am sure Apple did shortened sequences in that video.

People complain when other companies like Google does it. Why not when Apple does it?

You can still pinch the phone from a pocket then, then into your palm, is it really that hard? My problem with the iTouch in pocket is always it gettign caught in the pocket.

Has anyone looked at this iPhone 5 photos at full resolution?

They look horrible. It's like the foreground has some filter/water color smudge effect going on.

With the exception of the first image, the flower, all of the images look fine.

The first image is most likely shot at full open aperture, to give an effect called bokeh, which arguably is impossible to achieve with a cell phone imager. You probably see this as smudging.

Definitely doesn't seem like that. If you look at the waves...they look like they are painted..same with the grass, etc..with brush strokes, etc.
