I've never taken part in preordering online. I always waited a few weeks to buy it. But i'm staying up till 3 this time. Hopefully everything goes smoothly. Probably getting White 32GB.

Why would anyone buy an iPhone OFF contract (unless you don't mind paying more to keep your phone number).

With the new Mobile Data Share plans on AT&T, a dumb phone costs $15/month = $225/year.

If you bought your iPhone 4S last year, and want the 5, simply add a new line to your Mobile Data Share plan, and buy a contract-priced iPhone 5. (Savings of $250 immediately)

Sell your iPhone 4S (you'll get around $200 for it) ($450 savings so far)

Plus, you now have a second line that you can use that has UNLIMITED TALK. Buy a $50 dumb phone - give this to your parents - they'll love it as all they ever do is use a phone for talking anyways.

Savings of $400, happy parents, your bill is now $15 more a month. But that comes to $225 for the remaining year, your net gain is $175, plus happy parents who are saving $??

Really! You buy into Apples marketing? Wake up and let me educate you.

...

The list could continue...

Really great list but you didn't list anything really based on facts.

Especially about maps where Apple did a surprising good job. I loved google maps and was nervous about the prospect of losing the app. However, after using Apple Maps for the last month(on my soon to be old phone), I don't miss google maps at all.

Can we preorder with the Apple Store app like we did with iPhone 4? I spent an hour trying AT&T and then apple.com when the iPhone 4 preorder started and was so frustrated I couldn't get through on either. Finally I got the Apple Store app and set a reservation in 5 minutes. Hoping the app can be used for the preorder quickly, so I can go back to bed.

Can anyone tell me if I order my iphone through apple.com do they charge an uprgade/activation fee just like att would-btw this is for an upgrade for att

Read the Apple site. You can order the iP5 unlocked with a nano-sim with prepaid mins, texts and data from 3, Voda or O2. It will come at an additional cost. Also, I just rang up my local 3 and they said they had nanosims in stock and I got them to reserve one for me :)

I'm swapping from Giffgaff. Also, 3 bought some spectrum from EE, so 3 will have 4G before everybody else alongside EE. Infact, I heard that the iP5 doesn't carry the right spectrum (O2/Voda). They'll be getting 800Mhz as opposed to EE's 1800Mhz.
You're right about vthe 4G there but I'd rather be going with EE / Orange / T-Mob directly instead of 3, Never want to use 3.

I asked because buying the phone SIM-Free from Apple incurs a huge cost over the years. It's better to get it on a contract but there are NO details available. I want the iPhone ASAP, am I going to have to get it prepaid or will tariffs magically appear tomorrow morning

It's all there on the app, it just says "Dispatched: currently unavailable" and there's no preorder button, so I'm guessing we can get it from the app!

Depends in which country you are. In the UK for me is FAR cheaper to buy it off contract. I only have a 30 day rolling contract which I can cancel at any time. Only costs me £10 a month but I get enough MBPS, SMS and talk time from it.
If I wanted an iPhone 5 it would cost me more, and, most likely I would have to get a 2 year contract. So I would be spending more to get one AND be locked in for 2 years.

I have a Nexus 7. It's gotten a lot better, but I still disagree. I would argue that consumers feel this way too.

You'll say to look at the iOS vs Android numbers in smartphone activations and that's definitely one way to look at it. Another would be to look at the tablet market, and understand that perhaps Android does as well as it does because many many Android handsets by many different manufacturers are offered to consumers for free, whereas for newer iPhones come at a premium. When it comes to tablets, which generally aren't subsidized by carriers or anyone else, iOS is the clear preference.

I'm not an Android hater. I'll continue to buy Android handsets and tablets - it's part of my job, and plus, I'm curious, but at this point and time, the UX of iOS is still superior in my opinion.

[Edit] Also, come on. TouchWiz is an absolute nightmare, and actually makes Android worse. Samsung would be better off leaving stock Android on all it's products. For consumers and their own bank account.

I want to be able to recieve attachments in my emails, modify them and send them to email again. To do this in iOS is a nightmare. The iPhone is great for playing crappy games that loose appeal after 5 minutes.

I agree the old Samsung with Android phones lacked a slick and intuitive feel iOS provides. But this has now changed with Jelly Bean. Seriously, check out the Samsung Note 2, or Galaxy 3. It takes you 5 years into the future.

Have you people seen Android Jelly Bean on the latst Samsung hardware. It puts iOS to shame and 5 years behind.

As as aside (not directed at you personally) I find it funny that all the neck-bearded geeks who made fun of "that fruit company" for 20+ years are all excited about an OS with names like ice cream sandwich and jellybean.

Anyone here have an AT&T Business Account? I do and I was able to Pre-Preorder my iPhone 5. AT&T Business accounts can't order from Apple directly and have to go to a direct AT&T store or call a special business contract number. The business department has the ability to place preorders tomorrow just like apple.com, but they are also taking preorders today and automatically placing them tomorrow morning.

At least I only have to get up at 4am instead of 3am (Atlantic Time Zone)... although I anticipate getting up at 4am and hammering the site for 2 hours just to get the phone added to my cart. So maybe I'll just get up at 6am to save myself some pain and sleep-deprivation. Surely they won't sell out in 2 hours... will they?!?! I would hope not

Go with the 32. It will have better resale value next time around.

That's not true, go with the 16gb. I'm in the process of selling two iPhones and the 16GB is selling for about $40 less than the 32GB. In my book that's a $60 loss.

But can we do what you just said while pre ordering tonight?

I don't get what the fuss is about.
The processor is slow compared to Samsung, the screen is small.

You have no idea what you are talking about. The iPhone 5 will be the first mobile phone with the dual core A15 processor. This processor allows the i5 to run longer, cooler and faster than anything else that exists in the market.
It also allows the phone to be lighter. As far as the screen goes. I weighed the S3 as my next phone but when you start sticking phones with such large screens in your back pocket they tend to crack if you ever sit down. The 3.5" screen has been solid in my back pocket for years. I'm hoping the 4" gives me a little more real estate without causing structural weakness.

AT&T just told me they will be taking pre-orders at 12:01 to confirm it for like the 3rd time in this thread. Hopefully it goes smoothly, Thanks everyone for you information on this. (Black one for me :D I don't like the silver-ness on the white)
