Apple has always done it right. The old MacBooks were constructed from a premium precision engineered poly-carbonate. And it's the same with the 5C. That's why Jony Ive says Apple is unashamed of this, because the product is top quality with absolutely no visible seams. Samsung's are not seamless, they are not rugged, they are flimsy cheap plastic toys.

Yes they are not seamless because they actually allow you to swap out your battery and SD card. They could easily go down the route and make a seamless galaxy 5, but they won't because they actually believe in giving customers some kind of freedom. I mean how long is apple going to Gouge consumers on storage? It's ridiculous, not even Google and the nexus line are that bad and Google is a lot more focused on the cloud than apple.

Interesting.
I haven't yet used iOS 7. And I too very much welcome the departure from skeumorphism. But from what I have seen online, it has me wondering if they're are some legit misses with an "all flat" design aesthetic. For starters, it now appears deciphering what is and isn't actionable (touchable) is less intuitive than it was. An that, to me, is function #1 of iOS. Maybe the UI transition is incremental? Regardless, I'll await full judgement until a hands-on.

Cheers.

I have a 5 and typically update every other year. The touch ID and faster chip is nice but as much as I am a die-hard Apple fan, there are two key issues:

1. Next year's 6 needs to come in two sizes, a 4.8-5 inch screen to rival the competitors because people do want bigger, and the current size. And not just keeping the 5S around, but actually offering the new model in two sizes that both get whatever new hardware bells and whistles come along.

2. While I have been beta testing iOS 7 I would have to say that some features are nice, but on the whole there are simply too many mistakes and wrong turns. Getting away from skeumorphism is a good idea, there are still issues with the new iOS. Probably the biggest is the reluctance to make an even larger paradigm shift. This was the first real shakeup and they didn't take advantage of the change to really change. A few features and different colors/icons/styles doesn't count.

Here's to hoping for some real innovation for iOS 8 or 9 in the next year or two as well as with the iPhone 6.

i guess it is, but we weren't talking about wireless carriers. we were talking about strictly the cost of the phone on a 2 yr contract

by your logic, let's just not buy any iPhones or pay for any wireless service bc it would be cheaper, right?

First, I did not say that I would like to debate it....

But, one could just buy a cheaper phone outright and give the kid a prepaid plan.

One way or another you will end up paying $500+ for the iPhone C.

b/c it's $100 less. $100 dollars...times multiple iPhones if you have kids. it adds up. saving $100 here, $50 there, $20 there, heck even $2 here with a coupon it adds up when you have a family of 4

at $99, the iPhone 5C 16GB is the ideal smartphone now for kids/teens if you wanted to get them one.

That is a short term savings probably, not a long term one since when you trade it in it will be worth less. And if that difference is more than $100 then you have ended up paying more for an inferior product.

Case in point. My sister got a 4s but wanted to "save" $80 and got my nephew a 4 at the same time. I told her that was a very bad idea then... Now two years later she goes to sell it and her 16gb 4s is worth about $100 more than the 8gb 4. So over that time she ended up net spending more for an inferior product and had to deal with him always complaining about not having enough space! On the plus side I got to tell my sister "Told you so!" :D

1.5 hours since pre-order kicked off here in singapore...all 5c models are still in stock

Take note apple, take note...please :)

It also comes with a $75+ monthly bill so ideal is debatable.

ALL cell phones come with a monthly bill, most in the $60-80 range if you actuslly want good service. This has always been the dumbest argument, and its been around since day one. All phones require a monthly cost and all smart phones require some sort of data package that also costs extra each month.

When the inventor of the drawing board messed things up, what did he go back to?
Well that's where Tims team came unstuck.
What could they go back to?
The main guy had gone.
Answer.
The original drawing board. (IPhone 5)
Colour it - give it a new name.
Do what the public wish for ... next year, mind.
If they sell a few...bonus.
If not...still no big deal.
iOS 7 looks good enough to allow time to get the full blown 'real deal' out in six months and get back on track.
Meantime, it's fingers crossed that the public will keep their love for what once made Apple great and market-leading.
And that Nasty Mr Samsung goes away during this time.

See my answer above....

I see I'm getting alot of negative replies... WHY?!

All I said was that Steve would NEVER allow this to happen. And I stand by that statement....

Once again: Steve would never allow to release a product that is such a BIG step backwards.. Sad day for Apple, sad day for technical evolution and innovation.

Too bad we'll never know how well (or not) the 5C and 5S are selling.

Apple will always spin the numbers to report "remarkable" sales regardless of how poor sales really are.

See my answer above....

Thats what i am doing right now. Bought my daughter a $39.99 phone and pay $26 a month for the prepaid plan...

for $60 more on the phone i get a much more robust smartphone and im on mobileshare so adding the phone is $30 a month, $4 more than i pay now...

Sorry the iPhone 5C makes perfect sense.

They can spin it for a while but the stocks will show a clear picture. Its all about the Top & Bottom Line at the boardroom.

This is beyond me, how a well respected company like Apple can go do something like this...

Steve did not build this enterprise to make decisions like this, and release products like this....

I bet he would not have allowed this. :(

dear god what on earth are you talking about? a colorful new line of less expensive devices? do you know your iPod history at all?

Status has changed on the Hong Kong store.

$100 adds up when you have kids dude

I wonder how many people are "upgrading" their iPhone 5 to 5c?

Its ok if you are upgrading from an older iPhone, but I wonder how many people are simply not aware that the iPhone 5c is just an iPhone 5 in a plastic case. There are no real updates to the hardware except slightly better battery life.

Also A LOT of people are assuming the camera refinements from 5s are also in 5c, this is NOT the case. There might be slightly better camera software due to iOS 7, but it not better hardware.

And for $100 more I would rather just get the 5s and just buy a cute colored case if I was really hard up for a pastel colored iPhone, at least you are getting some actual hardware improvements for your money.

normal people don't upgrade annually, so I'd answer your question with "few".

You get the gist.

But. It's magical too.

Apparently.

Well for the first time ever I'll be using and iPhone without a case. Something I've always wanted to do but never was able to. I think this will last me 2 years and the durability is a plus.

And I actually made $100 off this trade since I just got credited for the AppleCare on my 5, so it was worth it to me.

you know i tried that with my iphone 5 and it was disastrous

fortunately apple swapped my phone out last week and it's brand new again.

good luck though with the 5c

Can't argue with that.... If it's only $4 more per month you have a very valid point.

Why would someone who has a 5, especially if on contract, be upgrading this year? And if they were most likely they'd be upgrading to the 5S, no? I don't get why people think Apple is targeting the 5C to 5 owners.

so clueless. you've never been in the same room with the man, let alone have an inkling into how he thinks. you have no idea what he would do.

but if you were smart you'd have looked at the iPod line -- where jobs released weaker and cheaper models all the time, all the way down to $49 shuffles.

that would be illegal.

apple reports it's sales to their shareholders and the numbers are fantastic every single year, which is why they're the most profitable cell maker in the biz.

oops.
