Tomorrow's headlines:

"iPhone 5C Pre-Orders sell out in 39 seconds."

Who knew plastic was so attractive?

True statement. I like how some people here think this is going to fail just because they don't like it. Guess what? It won't.

It says "iPhone" on it and it is "all new" in the eyes of the average consumer. They will go crazy buying it and Apple will make mega bucks with it's lower production cost. The great thing about an iPhone is that the brand is still so popular you can use color or other minor new features to sell it. Apple can hold back features that other brands need to get people's attention. Apple has created a profit generator for years to come and have learned how to manage it so consumers keep coming back.

Don't worry you will get your bigger screen someday, but Apple needs to wait to introduce for full sales impact.

Why would anyone want last years hardware wrapped up in plastic for only $100 less? If you're really concerned about $100 then I highly doubt you'd have an iPhone.

b/c it's $100 less. $100 dollars...times multiple iPhones if you have kids. it adds up. saving $100 here, $50 there, $20 there, heck even $2 here with a coupon it adds up when you have a family of 4

at $99, the iPhone 5C 16GB is the ideal smartphone now for kids/teens if you wanted to get them one.

Really surprised, but not surprised, by the lack of "I got this color, this size on this network" posts. Guess that is matching up with nothing be sold out yet.

That plastic is actually a lot more durable than the 5S. I'm not a software nerd. Yes I use y phone alot but it's hidden away by an ugly case (which cost $35) so now I can have better battery, camera, and durability while showing off this nice phone.

Well for the first time ever I'll be using and iPhone without a case. Something I've always wanted to do but never was able to. I think this will last me 2 years and the durability is a plus.

And I actually made $100 off this trade since I just got credited for the AppleCare on my 5, so it was worth it to me.
I agree with your point about using a case! However, I'm hoping to see an iPhone 5c drop test just to see might actually happen :p. Might still end up using a case. And as the screen is above the outer plastic shell, would the screen not potentially smash if dropped face down?

Because not everyone has the same opinion as you. Let people make their own choice. The amount of times I've had to say this is ridiculous. What's wrong with an improvement on 'last years hardware' - you don't need to have the very best, and the design of the c is way better than the s imo.

Couldn't agree more :D. Which phone are you upgrading from? I have a 4s which tends to run slow and the battery life isn't great, so it should be a big upgrade for me.

Lol what .. how do you know what Steve would and wouldn't have done? Just let Tim do his job.

i do know that steve would have opted for more colors and would have focused on the colors and attention to detail better than phil or jon in that promo video. steve had a way of allowing the product to guide the presentation naturally

i just think when steve presented the ipod nano with the 8 or 10 different colors. all he was talking about was colors...that's it. when the colors splashed on the screen you could hear the audience gasp. i guaranteed that tim cook and others around him said "steve, we can only have 4 colors, that's it, any more and this just won't work" and i see steve having told them there will be double that, period.

steve pushed apple to do above and beyond what a traditional product development team could drum up and busted through the barriers that supply chain and manufacturing teams tried to put up to hinder true design

I wonder why no black iPhone 5C? - that's a sane colour I'd actually be interested in, especially since they all have the black front. I guess they want you to buy the 5S for that, a bit sneaky in my opinion. No good reason not to do black other than it taking sales from the 5S that I can think of.

They don't even have a black iPhone 5S! Only 'Space Grey'.

I wouldn't mind a Space Grey rMBP tbh.

at least Apple did try to market the iPhone 5C with "jet black aircraft grade aluminum"

lol...i find it hilarious when consumer product companies say "aircraft grade aluminum" lollll

as an engineer in the product development and manufacturing fields, i find these statements just hilarious

Guess you're more practical than me.

Tell me about it. I went go-karting and my iPhone 5 bent like 20 in the middle because it got pushed against my hip in a sharp turn. Couldn't bend it back. Thank goodness for AppleCare+.

It also comes with a $75+ monthly bill so ideal is debatable.

you've missed the point. the $99 price tag makes it the idea smartphone to buy for your family members. the data plan is irrelevant in my argument bc the whole basis was that you already have data plans or you have a shared data plan. my point is why go and buy a $200 iPhone or $200 Android or what not, you can get the 5C for $99.

a very economical yet not economy phone

14 hours later... Still stock for both models in all colours.

This is an absolute fail on Apples behalf. Too expensive. People will want to pay all of £80 more for the S

It has been 6 hours, not 14. And you can't judge whether it's a 'fail' or not based on availability when you have no info on how much stock there was. Plus you seem to be forgetting they introduced two new iPhones rather than the usual one.

You know nothing. btw, when the iPod mini came out in colors there were only 4 to chose from. If iPhone came out in every color under the rainbow people here would be complaining that Apple has too many SKU's and is no longer simple like it was under Steve.

how is $99 too expensive on 2yr contract?? (US standard contract)

you also have failed to realize that the iPhone 5C yield is greater than the iPhone 5 and is greater than the iPhone 5S. they can pump more 5C's out than any other phone.

and by releasing 2 new iPhones, demand has been diffused across both while also attracting new customers to the 5C who would have otherwise bought whatever $99 Android running 1 1/2 yr old software that VZ/ATT were peddling at the time

If Apple sells out, Apple is holding back stock, it's a conspiracy!
If Apple doesn't sell out, Apple is a failure.

It's awesome to win both sides of an argument, right?

Like I said, it's debatable :D

i guess it is, but we weren't talking about wireless carriers. we were talking about strictly the cost of the phone on a 2 yr contract

by your logic, let's just not buy any iPhones or pay for any wireless service bc it would be cheaper, right?

Lol, Why?

I wonder how many people are "upgrading" their iPhone 5 to 5c?

Its ok if you are upgrading from an older iPhone, but I wonder how many people are simply not aware that the iPhone 5c is just an iPhone 5 in a plastic case. There are no real updates to the hardware except slightly better battery life.

Also A LOT of people are assuming the camera refinements from 5s are also in 5c, this is NOT the case. There might be slightly better camera software due to iOS 7, but it not better hardware.

And for $100 more I would rather just get the 5s and just buy a cute colored case if I was really hard up for a pastel colored iPhone, at least you are getting some actual hardware improvements for your money.
