That's what I am guessing too… that it's probably a lot easier to mass-produce this phone. It's surely not just the cost of aluminium that pushes up the cost of producing an iPhone, but the production methods, and the number of phones that get rejected and returned.

I just wonder if they've priced it too high to really create the demand they're hoping for.

and can you imagine the customer service nightmare of selling the iPhone 5 as a $0 or $99 item? From my experience, the cheaper the product the worse the customers are going to act. If Apple thought they had a lot of complaints when it was $200-400, just wait until the free phone crowd gets to scratching/dropping it. But good news, plastic phones for them and Apple makes more money :)

If only the front side if the 5C would be white then I would like it.

Yea, I agree. I would like it better too if there were white fronts as well, but I guess having 10 color variations would be too much for Apple. Reminds me of the 3G/3GS days.

I genuinely do not understand the excitement.

This, quite literally, is Malibu Stacey's new hat.

Why would anyone order the 5C instead of the 5S for

I hope the sales numbers are low, so Apple can get the point, but I have a feeling they won't be hurt as far as sales, people will still line up and buy it why I have no idea, there are better options out there instead of the 5C, most obvious one is the 5S

So if the sales arent low, what point is it that Apple are supposed to be getting? People will do what people will do, and if thats buying the phone in mass, then the point is that Apple made the right phone and priced it right and people like it. If that is the case, I think they will get the point.

I'm pretty sure it's the iPhone 5c :p. Yes most of the specs are the same, and if I had an iPhone 5 I wouldn't upgrade to the 5c, but compared to the 5 it has better battery life, an improved camera and above all, a much nicer design.

I'm upgrading from a 4s to a 5c.

Could make for an interesting study into consumer psychology! I don't know… but I agree that plastic makes it easier for Apple. I don't think you'll find people bringing back their 5C's because the plastic has a tiny dimple in one corner… but then again…?

Ha… but before there were lots of people wanting an iPhone with white (uncoloured aluminium) back and black front. Personally I prefer the black front.

It's called giving the consumer choice, and if someone wants to buy one phone over another then just let them. It's their choice, not yours.

What excitment are you talking about? There is none....you can still preorder the phone 1hour and 41minutes later!

Yes.

No.

No.

Maybe it doesn't have an improved camera. I was going by what someone else said earlier. But as for design, that's just a matter of opinion. I personally hate the 2 tone design, especially on the slate iPhone 5 and the space grey 5s.

The 5C has a bigger & better battery than the 5 and better front facing camera. Nothing major but it's still an improvement.

Yeah sorry I replied too quickly. Apparently it has improved the FaceTime camera.

Indeed it is. :) Actually, I'm not a huge fan of the two-tone back either.

The excitement is that there's actually an alternative to the horrible iPhone 5/5s design that looks damn cheap. I always wanted an iPod Touch design as an iPhone. And that's what I'm getting. It pays tribute to the 3G/3GS design in some respects.

Anyone who says the 5c is cheap needs to look at the 3G/3GS again when that was a premium phone.

There is an alternative for 4/S users.

Buy a £5.00 coloured plastic case if you don't have one already. (It has to be really extreme)

Wait til next Wednesday.

Download IOS 7 for
... Nothing

Go down the pub.

Put your "new" iPhone on the bar and switch it on.

Watch all the bystanders gather round and exclaim "Wow, man! You got the new iPhone 5C?"

You must say "Yes. That is correct"

Walk smartly out of the establishment before they realise its not. (You must remember at this stage to put the phone back in your pocket)

Although nobody will actually realise that is not the "new" iPhone - you will add a certain air of added mystery if you walk out ... And do exactly the same thing at the restaurant next door.

You'll have fun, entertainment and be more popular with the ladies and all for five quid! Beat that for value!

So. EBay .. New case. iOS7. Work. Pub. Cafe. New friends/credibility/respect.

All things you never had before reading this!

;)

Thank you, Tim!

It's weird that everyone is freaking out that there are phones still available, but no one is taking into account that there are what, 5 color choices and two capacity sizes. Do you realize that because there's more options (than two colors and three capacities.) that it's very probable the pre-orders haven't sold out in seconds, and likely won't sell out for a while?

Looking back, in previous years, the pre-order topics have generated 10's of pages after just minutes of people simply going "got mine"... yet, several hours later, we're on page 4. And not a single person has said "got mine".

Could this really be... a flop?

Because the phone is available in so many different colours there will be even less available in each colour. That makes logical sense.

The fact that ALL are still available for day 1 delivery speaks volumes (no pun intended).

For the past few years I've logged on to the store app on launch day at launch second, crash, crash, crash, crash, and when finally get to place my order I miss the launch day delivery.

2 hours in and every colour is still available for day 1 delivery.

This is what I have been trying to say...
Apple failed on this one I'm afraid.

Cook should never allowed this in the first place, I'm completely sure that Steve wouldn't.

That's a really good point. And I must admit it's a good thing that Apple have given customers more choice. As you say it will definitely help with models selling out. Same goes for the 5S there's an extra colour available this year which customers will wanna buy as it's different from the normal black and white models.

They might be able to crank out more of these plastic iPhones much faster than the ones with the jeweled chamfered edges.

There are probably millions more of them this year on launch day than any other year.
