Sprint USA i Phone 5c $0 down - two year contract.

Just pre ordered my iPhone 5c a Sprint (USA) they are currently doing $0 like T-mobile. $107 tax on two phones. as of 3:31 am pst 9/13. We will see how long these $0 down deals last. I've been watching the iPhone prices pretty closely for the past two months. They seem to fluctuate like the wind.

I guess it's just too expensive.

They should have taken the 4S internals, given it a 5 size screen and battery and then the colour cases and sold that for somewhere around the current 4S price. Would have still made a decent handset, at a much more attractive, affordable price.

Saying that, the networks are also clearly being greedy as hell, and could easily have positioned it more affordable.

Why were you guys expecting this to sell out in minutes? The *year behind* model traditionally has been a steady seller for Apple throughout the year. The 5c isn't the cutting edge new phone that has massive initial demand. The 5c is the *rebranding* of the slot that, up until now, has been filled by the year behind model. It will sell just like all the other older models, but probably better now that it's become something other than *just* last years iPhone. It now has newness and an identity. It is no longer the hand me down holdover (albeit very popular holdover) with the slashed price.

The people looking to buy this aren't the people looking to buy Apple's cutting edge new phone, they're the crowd that bought the 4s at a lower price when the 5 came out.

Apple has now branded this into something more "fun", new, and identifiable. Just think of it as giving the cheaper, year behind, hand me down slot a new name and look. Alongside the colorful iOS 7, the "Designed by Apple in California" campaign, and the colorful beach inspired OS X Mavericks imagery, I think it's a brilliant idea and the timing is great.

It was my understanding that $0 is just *down*, as you stated. You still pay the same total price (or maybe save $20) because its $22 (??) a month for the phone, plus data plan, right?

My point being, you posted, "We will see how long these $0 down deals last", but it's not really a special price. It's just the full cost spread out over time. Right?

I agree! But we will see when sales numbers start to be released!

I'll sit out the 5C/5S iteration. My 4 is doing fine, and will get iOS7. I'm waiting for next year's large sized 6" iPhones. That'll give a new experience. If I were to shell out cash for either the 5C or 5S, all I'd be getting is a bit of speed, which never fusses me anyway. These 5C and 5S are a big yawn. Apple deserves to take a hit on its share price.

The fact that it's still available for delivery on day 1 in every colour and the Apple store app hasn't struggled to cope with demand indicates the "mass" desire for this phone.

Yes, whatever were they thinking, having decent servers that don't break down and manufacturing enough devices to meet demand. CRETINS!

Actually, I bought the 4s when it first came out and now I've preordered the 5c.

I can't see this phone becoming a good thing for Apple...

Before this one, you could tell a difference between iPhone and samsung...

Now I see iPhone as cheap plastic aswell... oh wait! It's not even cheap.

Steve would never allow this to happen.

Plastic or not, it looks way better than the horrible 2 tone on the 5/5s.

The plastic looks a better quality and finish than Samsung's cheap look.

With the iPhone 5 still available from some of the UK carriers at a cheaper price than the 5C, where is the incentive for customers to choose the newer model other than support for 800mhz 4G?

My mother was keen to upgrade to the 5S from the 4 (she doesn't want a "plastic phone") and when she saw the price of the 5C being even higher than the 5, she made the decision to get a 5 instead because the 5S would be even more.

I think the 5C may well end up being the worst selling iPhone yet. People who want an iPhone will pay slightly more and get a 5S, and people who want a mid range phone will go for something more sensibly priced.

True, but there's no reason to think this will sell any less than the year behind model has historically. I don't believe Apple breaks down the sales numbers though, and its been a while since I've looked. With this new branding however, they may start.

I've relied on the Apple watchers out there that have extrapolated year behind sales figures from all of Apple's publicly released figures. The year behind numbers have been huge.

The big bet this year is whether branding that slot and making it new and fun will accelerate those huge sales even further.

I know the Internet has expressed a desire for colored iPhones for years now, so, I'm going to guess, yes.

The 3G and 3GS are also made of plastic. Doesn't mean it can't be durable. The price is too high tho. I would probably buy a green or yellow one instead of the 5S if I didn't have a perfectly working iPhone 5 already. I love the look of the 5C. Would've been better maybe in a matte color, dunno. :)

Your ignorance and bigotry is appalling. You clearly have no clue as to what virtues define being a man.

I'm not sure you have enough evidence to call Kiwi ignorant, and his comment is certainly not that of a bigot - he merely expressed the opinion of the colours. Maybe a bit outspoken, but to get offended by it is a bit of an over-reaction.
There is absolutely no doubt that the colours are typically those that will appeal to females - you can confirm this by looking at the predominance of colours like this in other products specifically aimed at females (clothes, hair accessories etc). I'm sure that if you put a colour swatch together, comprising the colours of both the latest models, and surveyed enough males and females asking their preference on colour, there would be a bias towards the grey and silver amongst the males. To equate that preference to bigotry, homophobia or discrimination is ridiculous.
How about you set up a poll and we'll see what the results are?

There only reason to buy the 5C would be for the 4G support. Everything else it offers is available on the 5 at a much cheaper price, and a nicer looking phone.

The 5S will be popular.

Agreed with your reply to my post, and I'm supposed to sell these things! Haha.

Yeah, like they never had a plastic phone back when Steve was in charge...

There is nothing wrong with the quality of the 5c, just let it go.

Apple should let other smaller countries know when the phones will be available there too. Its very annoying not knowing.

It probably depends how much demand there is in the initial set of countries...
They presumably want to release as soon as they sensibly can rather than give an extended release date.

(o;

I have a 5 and typically update every other year. The touch ID and faster chip is nice but as much as I am a die-hard Apple fan, there are two key issues:

1. Next year's 6 needs to come in two sizes, a 4.8-5 inch screen to rival the competitors because people do want bigger, and the current size. And not just keeping the 5S around, but actually offering the new model in two sizes that both get whatever new hardware bells and whistles come along.

2. While I have been beta testing iOS 7 I would have to say that some features are nice, but on the whole there are simply too many mistakes and wrong turns. Getting away from skeumorphism is a good idea, there are still issues with the new iOS. Probably the biggest is the reluctance to make an even larger paradigm shift. This was the first real shakeup and they didn't take advantage of the change to really change. A few features and different colors/icons/styles doesn't count.

Here's to hoping for some real innovation for iOS 8 or 9 in the next year or two as well as with the iPhone 6.

1. TOTALLY agree! why they dont just have 2 sizes! its like we allready have 3 different sizes - orig iPhone / iPhone 4 / iPhone 5....its allready a bit size / ppi fragmented...

2. mmm, I like iOS7, its better than Andriod... other than I wish we had a widget home screen, maybe ios8 then!

Nah, Apple will reduce the price if they have to. I like the idea of the 5C. Creating a product portfolio for iPhone is the right idea. But Apple needed to shake up how they do things. They should have come out and said we have two models now - iPhone and iPhone color. iPhone would be the flagship, premium phone. iPhone color would be the fun, colorful cheaper sibling. iPhone 4/4S would cease to exist. And then when announcing the iPhone color there would have been ZERO mention of the iPhone 5, even if the specs were similar. Don't let the media brand the colored phone as last years model in a plastic case. The 5C is actually a great phone (pricing aside) but its not being treated as a new phone. That's dumb from a branding/positioning perspective on Apple's part. I just scratch my head with what Apple is doing here.

Staus update from Germany: After 5 1/2 hours, the 5c is still available in all colors and storage options. In the past years, the iPhone 4/4S/5 sold out within 1-2 hours.
