Was this a in-store replacement or over the telephone exchange? I guess you lucked out for many people are getting replacements with the same issues.

Replacement thru Apple Care, UPS came, sent the faulty 5S to Nederland, and i just received the new one (totaly new with screen and back protectors) in little white box with no accessorie.

On phone when i called Apple support, i said them "dont send me a phone with same issue" . And i dont think, this is an advantage for them to replace with a faulty one, coz they know the same user will send it back until he will get a non faulty one .

I think peeps are fretting over this for little reason. While I agree whole heartedly that it is sub-optimal for Apple to shift a partly working device, it is an entirely different issue from antenna gate. Firstly, the antenna issue is common of many devices and will be on this one, flesh is not a good conductor of radio waves, never has been and never will be and this was not a fault of the device.
Now the tilt misread may well be a fault, as it stands, it is a fault. It may be a correctable fault via software, and apps such as iHandy clearly demonstrate that a calibration solves the problem in that app. It stands to reason (i believe) that a system wide calibration will solve the problem for the compass app and any other app that calls on the OS level orientation data.
If it happens that there is a hardware fault, then the warranty will provide a replacement, the 14 day issue is bypassed by a faulty device. I, for one, have notified Apple that I am unhappy with the issue, but am happy to wait and see how the thing plays out, that my consumer rights have me covered whatever the outcome. I have an excellent and beautiful phone in most respects. I have a third party level that will hang the mirror straight and if i am lost in the woods, the compass combined with gps will give me an accurate direction.
I am happy to keep my device and I think it is not good logic to rush to return your phone on account of the fault, as the situation stands now, where it is unknown whether it is a hardware or software issue.
;)

Cool, thanks for the info. I'm waiting for a couple software updates to see if they can resolve this issue by software. If not, I have the direct phone number and email to the Apple Tech Supervisor that I spoke to on a couple occasions, and will be exchanging this unit until I get one that's defect free. Cheers!!

I totally agree. I'm waiting it out for a couple software updates to see if it resolves the issue. I strongly feel that it can be corrected by software. I have a case file number and contact information of the Apple Supervisor and hopefully I won't need to contact him. Cheers!!

The more good phones that show up, the less likely this looks to be a software issue.

Also the longer Apple goes without comment, the more likely it's a hardware problem as Apple would state publicly that the problem would be fixed in software if it was a software problem. By not commenting, Apple is hoping people don't notice the problem or learn about the problem.

Pedometer

Alright, I'm a HUGE Apple fan, but I don't understand the apologists for this major issue. Yes, it is a MAJOR issue. I spent $299 on my device and it's faulty. Also, I have gone to several stores and I'm hearing everywhere that it is a hardware issue. Can they patch it with software? Probably, but it won't ever work perfectly for all the issues with which the sensors are used.

Also, M7 seems to be bogus as a result of this. I have two pedometer apps that I have downloaded that access the M7 data. They measure they same amount of steps (just pulling from the M7). My morning just started and it reads 566. My fitbit reads 917 and my analog pedometer reads 921, so.....

I understand how pedometers work and they aren't precise, but it appears that the iphone with its purported M7 capabilities is SIGNIFICANTLY less accurate than other options.

Plus, the sensors affect more than levels -- compass, games, accuracy of GPS orientation, photo and video stabilization, pedometer and more.

As I'm seeing from the forums, it STILL isn't fixed. Very sad.

Sorry, but you are totally wrong. Apple, like other major companies would not make a public announcement on this problem unless they were forced to do so. It's a waiting game now. At least we have a year if it leads to the point that we need to exchange it. Cheers!!

If I ordered an iPhone 5s online today, dispatched from China, would likely have such problems or faults?

Apple are well aware of the problem and have been for a while.
If they have have tweaked the hardware already then they may need to spend a few weeks doing some systems testing So we probably won't see those changes until new builds in November or maybe December. I could be wrong though

I think your chances of getting a good one is less. However, take that chance and do a return if you have problems. I was told by Apple that this seems like a wide spread issue. I just got back from the local Apple store and a couple cell shops and all their display models have the same issue with some worse than mine and others better. Those who are getting a good device is just getting lucky, I think. There are some people with week 40 devices that still have the problem. Apple sold over 5 million iphones during the opening weekend and if most or all thoses devices are affected, they will release a software patch if can be fixed by a patch (most likely) or they will do a silent recall.

I doubt it. Some iphone 4S's have same issues and they have been out two years and no fix yet, so I think this is going to go on for a long, long time. When was the last time Apple had a silent recall ?

Never knew they had gyro issues with the iphone 4S. If they did, I don't think it was wide spread.

Read a few now on this one thread about the iphone 4S. Tells me Apple will not fix this, just a guess

Ok, thanks for the info. I or a family member have owned all the models and this is the first time that I ran across the issue. I'm not saying there wasn't a gyro issue on another iphone, I just didn't notice it. I noticed this issue on the 5s when I was playing some games and the cars were automatically turning to the right. Anyway, I paid big bucks for this device and would expect it to work as Apple indicated. Cheers!! I strongly feel and Apple told me to expect a software update to address the problem. They're released software updates to address hardware issues on previous iphones. It's a wait and see......

Cheers!!

I have owned several iPads and Iphones and even had replacements for various reasons and they have all been dead on as far as the gyro. Sure there may be a very small percentage of the previous models with the issue but it never made any headlines and didn't effect the large quantity of devices as it does with the 5S. We just wont know until a software fix comes out or 95% of the latest versions come out of the factory correct. Thats when I will decide what to do but Im not going to swap now.

I would have thought that they have a fix now as I assume that it's the same chips going in the new iPads and surely Apple would never release a new product knowing that there is a fault with it. I just couldn't see them getting away with that.

A software update is surely complicated to do when u know u have different firmwares wrong on some lines and not all .

They have to check whitch lines and whitch calibration errors for each.

The best software update could be the manual calibration that dont mean a firmware calibration of the sensors . But if they dont want, they have to check serial numbers to determine where the device come from and if they cant determine whitch lines ....... i let you guess .

I have seen lots of faulty devices with a -3 degrees. they cant update to base on this calibration if others devices with 4-5 degrees or 1 degree will be affected by the patch. and they surely dont want to affect correct devices .

Ok so i just tested my iphone 4s, and my iphone 5 same surface. Iphone 4s -1 flat -1 long side. Iphone 5 0 flat 0 long side. 5s still shows -2 flat 0 to -1 long side. All running ios 7.0.2. Maybe my iphone 5 i just got lucky.
