Thanks for your response. Appreciate you taking your time out to write this as it's given me some assurance that the process is indeed correct and I should get a new retail replacement sent out to me.

The only issue I'm thinking is that the gyro problem still exists in many of the new handsets and at the moment mine is perfect without any blemishes so I really hope the new one is exactly the same if not better otherwise this whole process would have actually caused me more grief.

Only thing I didn't get was a return label ( on my order status or email) just an email saying that a courier will contact me within 48 hours to arrange a collection.

Let's see what happens.

You are quite welcome! The lack of return label may just be the way apple does there, having the carrier pick it up that is. Are you in the us?

I probably would not of shipped the phone back if it was blimish free. That was the tipping point, and I figured that if apple was offering then I would accept...

I'm in the UK and I think your right about not shipping back as the rest of the phone is perfect.

Will just have to wait and see now.

Finally got an update on my case with Apple from senior analyst ...

They just said that Apple engineering are well aware of the issue and to sit tight as an upcoming software update should resolve these issues.

Was sitting in the office now and check my collegues Iphone 4s x 3 and all of them were showing completely different data on compass, and while I could not test it on leveled surface the readings were also off although not significantly so.

If this problem was not reported previously, that leads me to believe it is an IOS 7 issue.

Again it is a speculations though.

Proper Calibration

I've owned or used every iphone and my family has a total of 5 and the compass can at times all show a different heading. I have found that the procedure Apple provides to calibrate the compass useless and indicates an inaccurate heading, especially in IOS 7. A couple years ago I found this video how to properly calibrate the compass and I find it works much better and provides a more accurate heading and constant heading on all my iphones. Give it a try.

The compass has never been that accurate. My iPhone 4S in iOS 6 could vary more than 20 degrees depending on where I was standing in my house (or sometimes just randomly). Apple claims the compass is very sensitive to magnetic fields. It says even the ear buds could cause it to be inaccurate and says it shouldn't be used for more than getting a general heading.

I think people are noticing the compass inaccuracies more now because the level is in the same app.

Thought I'd chime in with this thread, bought a 32GB SG 5S on launch day through EE in the UK with this issue (amongst others) and I'm just back from the GB with a replacement 5S, as I'd missed my 14 days at the carrier store. I received a white box replacement.

My original 5S had blemishes on the chamfered edge and a 'spot' on one side, and a 'crunchy' home button, so I was less than impressed, but I was away so missed my chance to return it.

Interestingly, the Genius I spoke to said that Apple are aware of the issue and will release a software update to fix it. I asked if it was related to the M7 and he said that it 'could be'.

My replacement still has the same issue, but it's now visibly perfect, so I'm happier with it now, lets see if the software fixes it, if not, back to the GB!

On a side note, I also exchanged my red leather 5S cover after a week, as it looked horrible. Now I have a black one, the Genius said he'd exchanged his blue cover for exactly the same reason!

Just been playing asphalt and found a solution, if you tilt your neck by -3 or -4 degrees it becoms playable. Also strengthens your neck muscles its good for you which was apples intent in the first place which is to do whas good for you cause apple knows better.

7.0.3 should hit this week as the new iPad(most prolly) are coming on 22nd and 7.1 might be released with them.

I don't think the new iPads will arrive on the 22nd. They will be announced and then in the stores 10 days or so later

Yeah that is possible. Apple should release 7.0.3 this week.and i hope it just fixes the gyroscope and compass problems.

Well if they don't release it this week then I don't think we will see anything until 7.1 in a couple of weeks time

I agree. Apple does not want anything to upstage their big iPad event next week. Any software upgrade that would say it corrects this big flaw a week before their iPad event is not something they want. Expect to hear nothing but the sound of crickets until the event. Then in 7.1 there will be a brief description of fixing this problem that, as they would say, "affects a few iphone 5s users"

I am not gonna get a new iPhone... I don't even want to wait for this to be fixed, it ruined everything for me as I waited for months now to get my new phone and I had to return in in less than two week leaving me with nothing but a bitter taste. Going to have a look in the Android/WP garden.
Makes me realize once more what a greedy and evil corporation Apple is, how media can be bought and bribed to hide such an issue and how shallow people are.

I called the iPhone support number at Apple and set up a case to document my issue because I didn't want to waste time going to an Apple store. The service rep recognized that I was intelligent enough to trouble shoot it via a settings reset, then full restore if the first step didn't work. After that, it would be considered a "hardware" issue.

I basically explained that my compass is grossly out of whack and that I don't expect it to be spot on with a compass but it was not even close at times. Then I explained how the gyroscope/accelerometer was affecting certain games that I downloaded to test the issue further.

I'd like to think it's a software issue but only time will tell. In the meantime, protect yourself and spend 10 minutes to get it documented. It will help any of us with the issue in the end.
