Apple's logic in capacity is crazy and flawed.

The fact they double capacity for $100 is nuts. The profit made on 32GB and 64GB models is outrageous. I think the cost was once posted that Apple pays $8-11 more for the 32GB and $16 more for the 64GB.

So Apple is charging $200 more for the 64GB and their costs only increase by $16.

Yup, the Apple money grab.

And I swear that just because someone makes an incorrect statement or doesn't think the 5S is incredible (not my opinion - just commenting) doesn't make them plants of the competition.

I agree - I don't have any problems with someone saying "I don't think the fingerprint sensor in the 5S is going to be all that useful". For the record, I never said the 5S was incredible either...

But this particular poster, and others, try to just cast shadow over the product by making snide comments that obviously fly in the face of what's happening.... that's the point where my tin foil hat starts to tingle...

I've had a bad feeling about this for days. That's why I intend to be at my nearest store 12 hours before it launches

That's too long for me. I'll take a peek at 6AM and if not bad like last year get in line. Beyond that forget it.

Indeed.

Clearly the delay is because Samsung is holding back screens from Apple in retaliation

Why does this happen EVERY year? Apple, why the hell can't you figure this supply chain thing out and start a month of two earlier than normal - or add a few production facilities/expand teams or something?

Every time a new iPhone comes out it's a total pain in the butt for weeks on end for people. (And I typically pre-order - but that obviously wasn't available this time)

It's frustrating.

The ongoing demand is lower than the initial demand. Bringing up a new fab to accommodate the initial demand would be a huge waste of money. Withholding sales for a month to build inventory would postpone cash flows.

Usually retailers decide on which specific models and their quantities to order. I guess for iPhones it's a bit different given there isn't a pre-order period for retailers to submit a PO. Apple knows best.

So sorry we don't have any 5s in stock. Maybe check out our new fantastic 5c which comes in many colors!

...

...

No thanks.

You can't be serious

What part am I not serious about? I'm pretty sure that all of that stuff is brand new.

Are you agreeing with the post I responded to that said this was a "minor variation"? If so, then what are your arguments for this being a "minor variation"?

Damn!!

Was wondering why it wasn't allowed for pre-order

I got to be on top of my game for the day it goes online.

You kept everything for the Fall and you still cant make sure we dont wait any longer - BAD APPLE:apple::mad::mad::mad:

Right, there's a big difference in subjectively deeming an update not exciting for you or me, depending on the individual. It's quite different from objectively stating all kinds of technology advancements, which are anything but minor by any rational technical standard, are "minor".

They should've just waited to launch it. I'm sure everyone would've understood.

What's the difference to you between "Apple starts selling the device one month later" and "Apple starts selling the device now but you could only get yours one month later since you are the 10-millionth in the line"?

In the current way, at least people who are really eager to get the device early can do whatever they can to be in the front of the line.

IMO, this is all an artificial scarcity for a publicity stunt in hope for a stock bounce. First, no pre-orders for the 5S. Now a report of "scarcity" with no hard data.

Apple could easily have a public web page showing the supply of iPhone stock at all stores in almost real time to the public. Many companies on line do this for warehouse components to assure delivery times.

This all tells me they want to show crowds of people around Apple stores like the first iPhone launch to impress Wall Street.

I'm waiting until around Thanksgiving, anyway. I want to see how the first 1,000,000 or so 5S hold up under daily use before jumping back into the new iPhone pool.

just propaganda marketing creating an illusion of short supply and high demand. Nothing new to see here.

Do you think these stories are FUD or that Apple has plenty of iPhone 5S's and is only letting them trickle out to stores in the first week or two? Reminds me of how Nintendo kept interest in the Wii going several years ago.

After this news I think I'm just going to order it online. Does anyone have any idea, based on previous launches, what the typical shipping time should be if I get my order through in the first few minutes?
