it's a good thing that they're trying to make up for the missing micro-SD card slot by adding 128GB memory chip, but i dont think the iphone 5S will also come in gold color option, but apple should consider a silver iphone, it's be very classy.

If the 5C will be an iPhone 5 in a plastic casing, than this may very well be the case. It will give the 5S a good position compared to the 5C. Apple still wants to push their premium 5S.

But who would buy the 5C then, if you can get more storage, better internals and a premium (thinner, lighter?) case for just a 100 bucks premium?

I hope we see both of these color options.

OK, that makes sense if people mean "at the same price", but I don't think that's a given by a long shot, especially if we see a 5C launched at the same time.

Be careful what you wish for!

If it is a "cheaper alternative" what makes you think it will be introduced at the same price? Who knows if that phone will even be introduced in the major markets.

----------

How exactly is that simple? Simple is:

-Kill 4, 4S and 5.
-5C: five colors, 16GB only.
-5S: Black, white, champagne, 32-64-128GB.

I honestly can't see them killing a phone that just came out a year ago when they are still selling the iphone 4 now.

i'd love to see more color options in iphone, enough of these black and white models. 128GB?? that's a whole lot of space, what am i gonna do with that much of space.

I think that's the whole point of the 5C: killing off older models sooner. New sells better than old.

The base memory is meaningless as long as customers can buy what they want. I'm sure there are plenty of folks who buy the 16GB model.

you do realize it costs money to "buy what they want", right? If the base size is increased the assumption/hope is the price stays the same.

I don't think this will fly in the US. After all, even though there are lots of rich people here, they won't be the kind to flaunt a gold cellphone. A gold watch, a gold bracelet, a gold necklace, or even golden shoes may make sense for us, but not a golden gadget.

The only place I can see this working is in the Middle East. They have so much money for the rich there that they can simply flaunt anything without a care.

You have to be kidding. When have we ever been accused of not flaunting anything??????

Boy Genius has a very nice, very clear picture of the gold phone.

Leave it to Apple to target pimps and rappers.

While I find it too outrageous and tacky, YMMV :)

Apple wants all the money... New phones mean high grosses :)

Golden would be trash unless the case is actually made of at least 18k solid gold.

Champagne is no problem.

That's not actually "the" gold iPhone, it's his personal iPhone which he had anodised:

I actually kind of like it. Not a flashy, jewellery shade, but the deep, reddish colour of NASA heat-reflecting foil. I could see Apple going for something like that, or perhaps a darker, bronze colour, over the kind of gold shades normally used in phones. That's not what the SIM trays look like though. My money's on the gold devices being early prototypes for in-house use, coloured in such a way that it'd be immediately obvious if they were stolen and seen outside of HQ.

Incidentally BGR's got an analyst note that conspicuously refers to the low-cost iPhone as a low-cost version of the iPhone 5. I can see it having the same hardware in a low-cost shell, and being pitched as a high-end phone at a low-end price.

Goddamn. 128GB on a phone. I was actually hoping it would happen, and I would probably go for it. But it's just insane to think about.

microSDXC supports up to 2TB.

What is insane is that the iPhone has no memory slot, or that people still buy it.

It will be champagne, not gold.

No it's gold. Not gold colored. It is gold. It's the model at 128 GB and it will only be sold full price. There will be a limited number produced and they will be numbered and engraved with Steve Jobs likeness and signature. And instead of a sapphire covered button it will be a diamond.

It's to offset the low income model.

I think Apple will keep the line up very simple. Something like this:

1. The iPhone 4 will be killed right away.
2. The iPhone 4S (8GB) might be killed right away but maybe killed in January (to drain parts stocks).

No need to drain parts, they will just stop producing as many and use what they do have for service parts.

It's another color not a design.

And this is why I don't bother posting in here, thanks for adding to the conversation. I do however disagree that it's just "another colour" a design team would've sat down and decided on the colour, it's not just picked out of a hat randomly, it's a part of the design, not just an addition.

The problem I have with the colour gold is it's a statement of wealth, except, it's not with tech products, it's just a coating, it's pure vanity, and always admired Apple for not being about vanity, but about form.

TLDR: The colour would've been picked out by a design team, therefore, a part of the design.

I've never seen anyone with a gold colored device. I'm sure there are some, but I can't imagine there being a strong demand for that specific color.

Perhaps precisely because one doesn't exist?
It all comes down to the precise shade/texture of the gold.
It could be either classy or garish. A chance for Apple to show that it can exhibit taste without Steve.

Releasing a GOLD edition is almost always a sure sign of a decline in consumer interest in a product. It's like a last ditch attempt to save a product. Even still I want a gold iPhone. If they have a silver iPhone I'd like that even more than golden iPhone.

I wonder if Gold gets better reception than aluminum or silver? Or is it that Goldman has all the aluminum so gold is an attempt for metal diversification to bring down the price of aluminum.

This actually makes sense. Haha. Even though Apple doesn't really need to worry about cash. They have way too much on top of the iPhone already. But to remain on equal standing in profits, if one price goes down, something must go up i guess.
