I started this thread pretty much just a few days after the iPhone 6/6 Plus had launched. I was hoping iOS 8.1 would solve the issues but it hasn't. I've decided to keep the phone but the lag sucks.

No matter how many little tweaks you do and settings tricks, it's there. It rears its ugly head daily. The iPhone 6 Plus is the iPad 3 all over again.

I no longer look at the iPhone as a much better phone than top Android phones like the Z3 or Note 4. I'm not an Android guy but the experience here with the 6 Plus lag, and big bezels makes this phone meh in some respects.

I like many things about it, including the nice screen, but this is the first Apple product I've got since I can remember that I don't love. I vacillate between dumping it and keeping it, but I'll stick it out I'm sure.

People are always screaming they want MOAR PPI than the regular retinas 300+, yet are oblivious the drawbacks to it:
  • Waste of processing power
  • Waste of battery life
  • Causes lag in animations
Of course I'm sure you will have people coming on here saying their 6+ is perfectly lag free, just that there's not a real benefit to going beyond 300+ besides to be able to brag about it on the spec sheet.

What does "moar" mean? Not familiar with that word.

It means "more".

Did you post a video or did I miss the link in this thread? My wife's 6+ doesn't lag but I'm not sure where you experience it other than an app you mentioned and I assume that's an app issue.

Yeah, I guessed that. You'd think if someone can't spell they wouldn't draw attention to it by using screaming capital letters.

I've had some lag with rotation and losing parts of the screen at time. When I'm in an app I don't know if it's the phone or the app…. I assume it's the app. I do have times when the screen is un-responsive at times but it's improved and I expect it to be vastly improved with 8.1.

Source?

Apple clearly felt differently when Steve Jobs talked about how with the retina screen people can't even make out individual pixels at 326 ppi. The fact that they went 1080p to simply match up with the spec sheets of android flagships doesn't change what Steve Jobs said for the iPhone 4 keynote.

Edit: Nevermind, no source, simply just your own opinion.

It's noticeable in high contrast situations. Human eyes aren't exactly like CCDs, the "resolution" is sort of dynamic. That's why for example we can spot a dead pixel from a fair bit beyond the "retina" distance.

That's not to say the extra resolution is necessary. But it is a difference that can be seen.

Personally, I think the on the fly scaling from 1242x2208 to 1080x1920 is a bigger issue than the 3x assets themselves.

It's a meme.

I really don't see a lot of problems with lag on my Plus, although I think people mean different things by lag. I would call it a persistent pokiness in the interface, which I don't see. I do see occasional hangups in isolated cases, but I don't think it's unique to the Plus.

Just ran Zen Garden. Lots of lag (stutters) in every scene. The one with the tree where you use touch to make it blossom... I was sliding and touching it all over and some blossoms came up and then after a 10 second lag/delay all of a sudden the tree had all the blossoms filled in. It was delaying/lagging the real-time drawing up of the tree blossoms.

Brutal.

If anyone wants to try, the App Store has Zen Garden available for download.

I just tried this 'game' again and it ran perfectly (again) on my 6+. Not sure what else you're running while you try it but I only had two simple apps (BBM and Quizup) running in the back ground.

Smooth and beautiful. You must have a defective model (sure sure)

For me, it only stutters when moving between different locations. The tracking motion will freeze and then it will continue. Everything else in the app works smoothly though.

Thanks for that meme reference. I get so annoyed with peoples' spelling being so bad that It's difficult to even understand what they are trying to say on forums at times but in this instance of course I stand corrected by you. Cheers.
On topic, I have read on some sites that IOS 8.1 corrected any lags that some people were experiencing at first but others say no. Confusing..

my iphone 6 would lag when sending text messages. the 6+ does the same too.

if there's an incoming message and i'm typing, the keyboard lags.

this is clearly software as it happens on both the 6 and 6+

----------

iPhone 6+ has 2X faster GPU but is pushing almost 4X the amount of pixels compared to iPhone 5s with same amount of RAM.

So it is clear that iPhone 6+ will burn out sooner and show it's age in iOS 10 or even earlier. I firmly believe that at native resolution, iPhone 5s is faster in terms of graphics rendering. But iOS 9 will magically make 5s appear stuttery.

Bottom line is, I am thinking about this objectively. Having cancelled my preorder, I will wait for next year's 6+s which will hopefully have 2GB RAM and 2X GPU power over current 6 models.

i'm gonna enjoy my plus for now and get the updated version next year ;)

I have also had lag when sending and receiving text and when using BBM.

I will type out a messages and there is a noticeable lag before the text is sent.

Also the keyboard will freeze if there is an incoming message. Hopefully this will be addressed in a future update.

why did you capitalize "It's"? Were you planning to start a new sentence?
May want to check out how to use a comma. It is difficult to parse your sentence.

Switching the Display setting from "Standard" to "Zoomed" does wonders to the Plus. Animations and transitions are so much more fluid and my Notification shade actually has a pronounced bounce when bringing it down like my 5 does. Definitely a scaling issue.

Yes zoomed WITH reduced transparency makes it seem literally twice as fast. However, it also takes away much of the advantage of the 6+. You lose space on the screen and Its not supportive of landscape orientation. Kind of frustrating that we have to make less than convenient modifications to get the phone running to how most of us feel it should be running out of the box. Did a test with speeds (different options set) opening up, loading and closing 12 different apps and then reopening a couple of them, then opening and closing a text message window. Here are the results :

Standard zoom : 58.75 seconds
Zoomed : 58.5 seconds
Standard with reduce transparency : 53.5
Zoomed with reduce transparency : 52.5 seconds
Standard with reduce transparency and reduce motion : 53.75

SO.....the idea that zoomed makes it quicker, although I agreed, doesn't seem to be true. Reduce transparency DOES make a difference though !

Again, couldn't this just be a temporary situation until the apps are optimized for the + ?

I think the "reduce motion" setting is a lot better than using either the zoomed or reduce transparency settings, in the sense that you don't really lose anything and also appear to gain speed in the interface. At least I don't notice any lag. I've been using it since I had my iPhone 5, since I just prefer to do without the zooming effects, but the side effect was that it made things appear faster. I think a lot of what people are complaining about in terms of lag is actually the zoom animation being choppy.

no because animations and transitions such as notification center and opening/closing an app within iOS itself are pretty laggy by default but when you change Display from Standard to Zoomed, those same exact transitions are smooth as butter. Runs just as smooth as my 5 on default settings comparing side to side.

Actually, using the same test that I performed above, using reduce motion did not speed things up at all. There was a delay, just without the "opening sequence" of an app. Same speeds though. Reduce transparency definitely did speed it up a tad. Even the spotlight stuttering from portrait to landscape is gone with reduce transparencr

I'm surprised by that, since it always seems like a noticeable increase in speed to me (particularly if you're switching between apps that are already loaded). But it might be one of those cases where the perceived speed is more important than the actual speed.
