It looks like people who aren't in line right now are pretty much screwed.

I guess one way to guarantee yourself some sort of iPhone is to go to the local Sprint store. No one goes there :D

True that and with the low yields of the screens, which isn't really their fault not sure why people are blaming them so much - in a few months supply will be up.

To be fair, mines coming tomorrow, but learn some patience guys! :D

You're exactly right. People need to exercise patience.

As for assessing blame, it usually goes to whomever receives your money. Whether that's fair or not is a subject to be debated. The argument can be made that Apple had knowledge of the low yields when they announced the availability of the 6+ at the keynote. If screen yields can be used as an excuse for shortages it can also be a source of fault since they could have delayed the release of the 6+ a week or two until inventory was more in line with demand.

Personally, I agree with what Apple did. You get a few disappointed people (who are going to buy one later anyway) but you get a helluva marketing boost with "High Demand Sold Out ". Smart business.

Mr. Cook completely underestimated the demand for the iPhones once again. FAIL

Or perhaps he is not a magician who can make iPhones appear out of thin air.

Other companies announce a phone and release it one month or even several months later. Apple announces a phone and puts it into the hands of the first customers already 10 days later. I have no idea whatsoever why people seem to prefer the first model.

You know there are limits to manufacturing processes and technology right? They can't just "wish" up 100 million iPhones.

NO ONE sells this many. NO ONE. This isn't some normal occurrence they should be totally prepared for.

Soooooo....can I play with one in the Apple Store tomorrow? I just want to feel the difference between the 6 and 6+. I can't upgrade until December anyway.

Maybe I will head to Verizon....when the 5 launched, there was no one there and everyone at the Apple store.

Planning on ordering the 6, space grey, 64gb through AT&T's online store on the 26th, give or take a day. I wonder how long I'll be waiting to get mine. I've never tried to order one this close to launch before.

Just a reminder to those crying or mocking Apple about the supply issues.

You never read this about Samsung or other premium Android phones because this type of outrageous demand is just not there for other brands.

I am sure Apple knows it supply chain well and done everything within reason to meet demand. They weren't going to hold up the beginning of distribution until they had excess capacity. If the stories of yield problems for the screens of the larger model are true there isn't much they can do until the problem is solved.

I feel like a broken record saying this every year, but Apple gets exactly 0 sympathies from me.

They're the most valuable company in the world with over $100B in cash. They're onto the, what .. 8th or 9th generation iPhone now, and yet they STILL haven't figured out how to meet launch demand??

We don't even have China in the first wave this year.. I'm surprised at Apple's incompetence sometimes, especially with Tim's supply chain background :(

I'd like to know if Apple Stores or third party stores (like Verizon) will have demo units of the 6 Plus tomorrow (or in the near future). I'm thinking it's what I want, but I want to physically hold one before I order.

Yes. They are having demo units tomorrow. I had a genuis bar appointment last week and I asked. They said to come in the evening when they are sold out and it is not as crazy. I ordered the 6 and the 6 plus. Wanna check it at the Apple Store and return the one I don't need. I receive them tomorrow morning from UPS

I dunno.. with that $100B in cash they've got lying around, you'd think there'd be SOMETHING they could do. Me thinks they're only making "just enough" for launch to beat last years record, while still bottlenecking the demand. Otherwise why don't they start earlier if it's a genuine manufacturing issue, or employ more manufacturers. They've been at this game long enough..

Oh they have, it's pretty obvious they know the less iPhones there are the more hype there is, the more people there are waiting outside Apple stores trying to get hold of one.

They really could get down producing the iPhones for 2 months then release them instead of announcing/shipping them so soon. There is always the issue of them not knowing what the demand is, but what's clear so far is that new things often sell out the quickest.

Not like Apple cares, dey be rakin' in the moneyz

sounds like apple been really lazy if that was the case...imo i know they intentionally didn't produce much just so they can watch these mad cow disease go wild in apple store. Apple knows how many they need to produce..but didn't feel like it.

It is not a matter of "feeling like it". You think Apple doesn't feel like making a profit? You think they wouldn't like to put as many iPhones as possible into people's hands before Samsung's next flagship is released and people might actually prefer an available phone over a non-available one? Really? You think Apple is being led by complete idiots? Or is that how you would lead a company?

Do you know how much it costs to set up a production line? Do you know how many suppliers have to provide sufficient supplies for the iPhones to be made? Do you have any idea whatsoever how a supply chain works? How would you manage to produce more than 4 million iPhones in 6 weeks? There are so many smart people here in these forums who think Apple was just too stupid to meet the demand. Perhaps Tim Cook is actually reading this and will pick some advisors from the forums to help him improve things for the next product launch.

Posted this on another thread, but my best friend who works at the largest local official AT&T store just confirmed that they had received just 16 iPhone 6 Plus models.

I feel a bit sick, have been pushed from about 110th to 150th in line from a scalper selling seats, he's now giving his gang gift cards to his clan to buy as many pluses they can (trying for two myself). This has been a disappointing 14 hours in line, never again. Shame on apple for not writing a number on your hand or giving a card out prior to them closing at 9pm last night, disgusting.

i think its a marketing gimmick. get people to rush and get one for opening weekend! theres only 60 million phones out there. lol
