I don't know why people say idiotic stuff like this. If a bigger screen suits you, you'll never go back to a smaller one granted. I know people, (well heeled ones), that just prefer the smaller form factor of the 4S.
Why is that so hard to accept?

I accept. So buy a 4S/Lumia 520/Galaxy S4 Mini and so on.

My girlfriend has a 5c and buying it would be a downgrade to me in terms of usability. I have Swype as default keyboard and a larger virtual keyboard, so I can type in Macrumors long texts pretty easily. She has smaller hands than me and constantly hits wrong characters.

I'll believe it when I see it. This would be a massive issue for app developers.

In other words they may have to do a bit of work. Key Android developers seem to cope with different screen sizes and aspect ratios. Obviously crap developers don't put the effort in which is why so many Android apps are not optimised for anything.

I hope if they do this they are clever enough to make it easy for developers to adjust like they did when they released the iPad Retina originally by allowing for regular iPad apps to display normally.

Right now developers have to create apps for the following screen sizes/resolutions:

3.5" (960 x 640)
4.0" (1136 x 640)
7.9" (1024 x 768)
7.9" (2048 x 1536)
9.7" (1024 x 768)
9.7" (2048 x 1536)

so you mean its different than develops that have to make apps for iphone, ipad mini, ipad(standard size) and rumored ipad Pro size screens?

1- 802.11ac is a "nice" update, but i don't know many people who can't get what they need speed wise with what is out there already.

2- Camera More of us want a better camera. really! sony's 20 sensor megapixel is looking nice.

3- Memory it would be awesome to get more memory for your $$. maybe add a micro sd card slot on the bigger model.

NSA SPYING ISSUES:
4- IOS phone data encryption- Can we please encrypt the actual phone and data on it??? enough is enough, some Apple users want privacy and anyone can pull everything off a phone they want if they know how. Blackberry has encryption on the phone and MicroSD card. why not Apple?

5- Battery- and .... now that the NSA spying scandal has broken out.... can we please get removable batteries. Many of us like the idea that we can turn a phone off. really off.
1. ac is fantastic, especially for wifi syncing, as it is now wifi syncing is useless, with ac it will be absolutely amazing.

2. Megapixels are nearly useless, 8 is plenty, 12 is most you'd need really.

3. micro SD slot would be idiotic, and I know Apple isn't stupid enough to drag drown their beautiful designed devices with more useless holes.

5. Removable batteries will absolutely never and should never happen in Apple devices, I'm so glad Apple is smart enough to not allow that.

I really hope that it will be the only size and 4" will be last year model. Reading macrumors will be so much fun then.

the screen will grow height wise as well as width wise, if it is to hit 4.8"
otherwise, the resolution will be 1076 x 1136
ie. almost square, ie. not practical.

hence, apple cant simply do the black bars trick this time around.

The sole reason that I'd want a larger screen is to make it easier to read and type. Hence, I'm concerned that in the mockup, the icons merely spread apart with more space in between, rather than appearing larger. Also, the fonts don't appear to be much larger. We'll wait and see.

To everyone saying that it would be too big and you would have trouble reaching certain parts of the screen:

You're holding it wrong.

Seriously, you are. As a person who has used multiple sized Androids and the iPhone, just changing where the phone rests in your hand and how you position your fingers can increase (or decrease) the amount of surface you'll be able to reach. My wife, who has relatively small hands, is perfectly able to use her S4 (4.8") with just one hand.

Don't worry. No one here will judge you for being a staunch "this size is perfect" poster and changing your tone once you use and see the huge difference a bigger screen size can make.

Aren't the x2 resolution Apps of the Retina iPads also used for the x1 iPad-Apps?

4" and 4.8" iphone 6. I am about 99% certain they will never get rid of 4". There are people who want the smaller device, and people who want the larger device, with the former making up the vast majority of those. Similar to how the iPad Mini with Retain and iPad Air have the exact same internals, the iPhone 6 4" and 4.8-5" will have identical internals, the only difference will be physical device size.

After using a Galaxy Note or S4 you'll never get back to a smaller screen. It's very comfortable for typing and reading.
Soon even men who have these large screen phones will be carrying them in a under the arm purse but I'm sure it will be called a mini satchel or something. :D

Yeah, an iPhone that size won't be any more difficult to carry than the current one. Not unless you're wearing very, very tight pants, but then you'd have problems carrying the 4" iPhone.

I can see some people taking issue with a larger iPhone due to usability. Some people have good reason for not wanting a bigger phone. But the "it's too big to fit in my pocket" argument is just dumb. Really, really dumb.

I'll believe it when I see it. This would be a massive issue for app developers.

I don't trust these analysts and their "supply chain checks". Who in Apple's supply chain would leak the specs of their next flagship device to some Wall Street analyst? If they were every found out they probably wouldn't be a supplier for much longer..

As long as they release a regular 4" one as well, I'm perfectly fine with it.

Apple better not be going into the "phablet" category with a 5.7" device!!

I want the best hardware in my 4" iPhone this year (I'll be due for an upgrade this year). So, they better put that A8 chip in two screen sizes: 4" & 4.8"!!! ...they have the A7 in two iPads: Mini & Air, so they should be able to do this.

I want my smart phone to be a PHONE, compact, fits nicely in my pocket. I want it to be the best hardware, not less. This can be done by keeping the 4" iPhone same thickness, and making the larger iPhone (4.8") super-thin, which I think would be the best move anyway, as currently anything larger than an iPhone has a bigger battery and bulkiness that I can't stand.

An adjustment for sure, but not a massive problem. Imagine trying to develop for all the Android handsets out there with screen size being just one in a hundred variables to consider when optimising your software.

Imagine trying to develop for all the Mac computers out there with screen size being just one of a hundred variables to consider when optimising your software.

Imagine trying to develop for all the Windows computers out there with screen size being just one of a thousand variables to consider when optimising your software.

It never ceases to amaze me when iPhone people bring up this point like it will be the end for developers. Developers have been dealing with this kind of fragmentation on the desktop for decades, now when it comes to mobile it suddenly represents an insurmountable challenge?
