until now with iphone 4-5s the target was both male and female. Now with a bigger iphone i dont know if still lots of womans will want iphone 6

Finally! Been holding onto my HTC One for one reason.. the larger screen. I hope they don't try to make it super thin so it'll hold a huge battery.

I don't get why Apple doesn't understand one simple thing..

I would much, much, much rather have an extra 2-3 hours of battery life than for my phone to be a few mm thinner!

The developer's will adjust. It's not that big of a deal. It was bound to happen one day.

RIP people who don't like progress and change.

A massive screen phone isn't progress! Unless we then have to make pockets bigger to compensate for them!

I suspect it will indeed be September. Any sooner and many people who purchased the iPhone 5 will still not be eligible for upgrade pricing which would have a significant impact on early iPhone 6 sales.

i dont know where you come up with all this vast majority crap

anyone with an older ios device with a deteriorated battery would replace the battery, rather than suffer with it or simply throw out the device.

its all part of planned obsolescence.

or you can just pay $80 for them to replace it. Which is around the cost of a normal replacable battery anyway.

Haha. Go sync your phone over wifi to itunes. Syncing on ac would actually work.

good point, however...
I am not really monitoring that sync over wifi: the phone is sync'ing by itself when I arrive home.
For those 1~2 times per year when I have to sync a lot (tens of Gb), I normally use the cable, which is also quite slow when sync'ing over 20-30 Gb anyway...
(I have an iP5s)

Can't wait to see all the one-handed users bitch and whine lol. Hopefully they release this iPhone in June, and not the fall.

So, differing opinions are "bitching and whining?"

To each his own. I went from an iPhone4 to an iPhone5S and I want to go back to the smaller of the two. I went from never having to change my grip to constantly having to change my grip. Also when I have it in a back pocket of jeans it wants to lever itself out.

Really Apple just needs two sizes.

Yep. I'd rather have the old 3.5. The 5s' speed and camera are the reason I upgraded.

These forums are insightful, but also hilarious. Today, now that the specs are 'locked in', this is the highest rated comment so far:

Back in June 2013, when it was reported that Apple was 'considering' a 4.7" display, this was the highest rated comment (currently rated 6X higher than the above comment):

So, a 4.7" screen size was too large. But, when it became clear Apple has made its final decision to increase to 4.8"...

You have no way of knowing if the people that up-voted the first comment are the same people that up-voted the second comment; so what kind of point are you trying to make? Some people like large screens, some like smaller screens. What's the problem with that?

I would love a bigger screen but with proper aspect ratio. I don't want to see a 7th row of icon.

“Proper” as in different than the current 16:9? (i.e., like 99% of the high[er] end smart phones in the market).

Remember, 1136x640 = 1280x720 = 1920x1080 (give or a take a few pixels) in terms of aspect ratio.

...or just get a good 3rd party for ~$25, comes with a pentalobe screwdriver and takes < 5 minutes to replace :)

Here's the thing. I think 4.8" is perfect (that's NOT what she said. Sorry, couldn't resist). Any larger and the phone becomes very unwieldy. But, there will definitely be those who even find the 4.8" too unwieldy. So is Apple going to have both 4" and 4.8" screen sizes in their lineup? Seems like the wise move to me.

ac is on almost all new routers I believe, and by the end of the year probably all. Apple knows what they are doing, they knew it would not be very wise to add to the iphone 5s due in part because the standard wasn't widely adopted yet, and because obviously they want as many new features in the iphone 6 as possible.

My point was more that it isn't a MUST HAVE that will make or break sales of it but something that isn't at all surprising will be added. I guess I was more saying that it isn't news that it'll be offering ac as every single Apple product in the next year will just as every product added n when they added n to the Airport Extreme years ago.

They will def keep the 5, 5c, 5s around maybe even the 4s? I wouldnt be surprised if they even did a "new" 4inch model and raised the price to maybe $250 or $300 for the larger iphone 6.

iPhone 6

I've visited Hong Kong the past 2 Christmas vacations (2012, 2013). In 2012, I saw many of the larger Samsung phones in use. In 2013 I saw more of the large Samsung screens, plus the newer iPhone 5C (usually blue). This was from traveling all around Hong Kong Island and Kowloon.

If Apple releases the iPhone 6 in 2014, it will be around September 21st (09/21/2014). Otherwise, we'll have to wait until June 2015 (06/15/2015) which would be too late.

My #1 request for iPhone 6 would be to get rid of the default small hard drive size. A larger screen and hard drive will be most welcome.

Otherwise, the iOS GUI needs to be less flat! Enough of the Wireframe GUI.

Different screen size is no issue at all for devs. iPhone is in two sizes, iPad in two sizes.

The pic looks like the res is the same, and the screen bigger, and if thats the case I won't see more, it will just be bigger. Thats not a lot of use. And there is now room for another row of icons, an efficiency gain

I expect two iPhone 6 sizes, no question. If it was just a 4.8, then the size issue still remains, it will be just the other set of users complaining, thats no good.

Apple is doing just fine. Making it a few mm thin pushes innovation on suppliers. Battery tech just needs to catch up

Analysts?
Are you talking about those who have been speculating about a larger screen size for years now, and display an incredible lack of originality?

I'll believe it when I see it. This would be a massive issue for app developers.

If history serves, Apple would make it easy on the devs, at least at release time.

The X&Y ratio should be the same, but the UIScreen.scale would be different from 2.0. So new assets could be used, but it could work with current assets even if recompiled.

Things like text would work out of the box, etc.

My 0.02$

What about email? It might be "better suited" on an iPad, but definitely not more covenient when on the go.

That's true, but I can't believe in this entire thread, nobody has mentioned built-in dictation as a mitigating factor for text entry on a phone-sized screen. Doesn't anyone else around here dictate their emails and texts? It's highly accurate and works great even while walking outside on relatively noisy city streets.

Finally. I was starting to think I was going to have to get an Android phone.

If you think the new screen is too big, don't buy it.
