im due for an upgrade in November, might have to return to iPhone from my 2 year stint on the galaxy s3, love the screen on the S3 but do miss the iOS of the iphone

Clever marketing on behalf of the carrier companies. Now people think that when their two-year contract is up, they need to buy a new phone. Using a phone for three years is now so uncool.

If the 4.8 screen size is true I won't be upgrading to the 6, I like the fact that my phone can fit into my pocket and isn't bulky!

don't know what a "key software innovation" is

but for me it would be enough to have "Swiftkeys" "innovative" keyboard, a 5" display and ac network (all is available in the current Nexus 5)

until now with iphone 4-5s the target was both male and female. Now with a bigger iphone i dont know if still lots of womans will want iphone 6

I see a number of women in my workplace who use the larger galaxy phones and carry them in their purse with no issues. Not sure why that would be different for a larger Apple phone.

Can they focus on making a phone that doesn't require a case while they're at it. It can still be pretty while not being so fragile. The original iPhone was a tank. Make them tough so I don't have to use a case. Saving a few mm if we're all going to replace them with a case makes no sense.

4.8 would be conservative. When I compare my Moto X to my iPhone 5S, the X really isn't much larger. Quarter of an inch wider, fifth of an inch taller, and they packed in a 4.7 inch screen.

Apple could go even bigger if they wanted, the X is still a small phone:

I think the Moto X is the perfect size. I had one for a few weeks and loved everything about the form factor. Now we just need the same size running iOS :)

Even better, make them customizable. Nicely integrated, better durability, no tacky case. If Motorola can pull that off, Apple can too. It seems odd they haven't yet, aside from the rainbow of colors the 5C comes in. Personalization, of the outside since you can't personalize the inside, is such a huge part of owning an iPhone that you'd think Apple would capitalize on that.

and what's the point of having 802.11ac in a phone?
g or n is doing the job perfectly fine, and can do it for many years from now on.

There is some truth to that. Even the faster processor in the iPhone 6 won't likely be able to process the full throughput of ac. Plus the flash memory on there doesn't handle

Generally public networks run at g speeds to accommodate as many users as possible. Your n router will drop everything down to g speeds when 1 user using g joins so there goes your speed advantage (many set their routers to n only to keep speeds higher).

AC does offer some power savings over n though as it will mean you can transfer the data in less time meaning less time spent sucking battery. It has other optimizations too.

AC is something they should add and they will but it's not something to get excited about by any means at all. People wouldn't likely complain if they kept it to the current wifi tech.

I still think the iPhone 4/4S size is the best. It's the right balance between usability and portability.

If the iPhone does get bigger, it would be great if there was a size option, like with the iPad. And it better be more than just bigger pixels! It would be very stupid to do the same thing with the iPhone as with the iPad mini, as in having the exact same number of pixels but on a larger area. It would not increase the amount of information displayed, only the size.

As long as they steal some of the features I've grown to like. Widgets, though people like to laugh about them, have definitely got an important place on my screen. And dammit Apple, just buy Swiftkey already dammit! I also like some of the Motorola-invented add-ons, actually, like active notifications. Nice idea, though you have to use an OLED screen to make it workable.

There needs to be more IP theft amongst the OS manufacturers :)

That's big. It might look funny when you're actually doing a call, right?
Nobody gives me a second look if I hold my Note 3 up to my ear, and that's quite a lot larger than a phone with a 4.8 screen would be. So no, it won't look funny.

/and if it did... who cares?

Funny how so many people are resistant to change. Bottom line - It doesn't matter what you or I like. The 6 will have a larger screen following the rest of the market. The smallest Android phones worth purchasing have 4.3" screens, Blackberry z10 is 4.2 and don't even get me started on Windows phones.

Make sure you get AppleCare on your 5/5s so you can live in the past for a few additional years.

Great news. They are going to sell crazy numbers of these.. Plenty of people have held off upgrading since the 4S due to size.

Those that jumped ship to the S3 and S4 will have expiring contracts.. Apples user base will likely increase quite a bit over the next 18 months.

This should be interesting. I wonder how they will change the design to fit the new screen. Maybe we will finally get some exciting iPhone hardware changes!

I LOVED the X's Active notifications! Too bad the camera wasn't the best and while KitKat is vastly better than anything Jellybean and lower (IMHO), it still wasn't quite there enough to make me use the Moto X full time.

I'll admit I have small hands, so these large phones just don't work well for me, but I understand those who do have larger hands liking the larger screens.

Personally I am hoping there is still a 4in option or ~4.3in if they remove the bezel. Personally I would kind of like the phone to be a little narrower, just keep the 4in screen and remove the bezel and it would be a great phone for me and then offer the larger 4.8in model for those who want it.

Am I the only one who doesn't actually want a bigger screen?

All I want is better battery life. To me that would be THE killer feature... if we could go back to the days of phones lasting a few days on the one charge.

My 4S is fast enough (for a phone) and the screen is big enough (for a phone.) If I need a bigger screen I'll use my 50" TV or my 15" MacBook Pro. And yes, I read the news on my iPhone every morning!

This is just BS

there really is no new info here. some analyst claims a screen size of 4.8".

It's a reasonable guess.

Ac wireless --> duh

Mobile payment NFC --> good educated guess. Makes sense with TouchID.

I don't think this analyst knows something we don't.

And please Apple: change the boxy iphone4-5 design, it's practically a brick in your pocket, we need bigger screen and smoother/curvy design, something along these lines:

But make it Kevlar or something else that's scratch resistant.
