I actually didn't have this problem UNTIL I reset all settings to fix a Bluetooth issue with car connectivity. And restarting as new...? No. I pay good money for iCloud storage for backup and restore functionality. I'm not restarting as new. ESPECIALLY since several commenters in this thread did set up as new and they're still having the issue. This is Apple's problem to fix, not mine.

I wake up this morning and saw my phone turned off by itself. It was put on the charger over the night. The only way to get it on - by both buttons pushing.
  1. iPhone 6S plus. 64gb gold. 9.1 dp3, idle , during the night charging.
  2. Installed and set as New (no restoration)
  3. No restore.
  4. Yes. Some errors with the time and synchronization. If you want , I can upload the log file.
  5. Not mention. It was in "sleep" mode

Today happened again - but this time the phone was in my pocket in the car (maybe connected to the Car's bluetooth handsfree). No hot touchID button. Chatted to Apple support - they did remote diagnostics, and as expected - said -to submit Feedback because it is a beta Does not matter I mentioned the same issue observed with all iOS versions:

"... There is no “official” issues we have confirmed with the latest version. In order to continue we will need some diagnostics on the current version. Beta is not supported, if you are having issues you can submit feedback using the feedback tool.
If you continue to experience problems after going back to the public version we can properly troubleshoot the device and continue with our engineering team if necessary but if you would like to provide feedback being on beta I really recommend using the Feedback App it will help us enormously if there is any issues.
As far as the forums we don’t use them too much to gear issues and fix problems because they are not controlled so anything can be said... "

I don't think this is related to restoring iCloud backups at all.. Because mine just experienced this issue and I setup mine new from scratch, did not restore any backups.

1. iPhone 6S Plus, iOS 9.0.2, and phone was Idle before the problem occurred.
2. N

2. Restored from backup
3. iTunes

So here's a new? Which one would be better backup to iTunes or iCloud.Do you think it's a iCloud issue only or iTunes,I'm new to this iPhone stuff,Thanks

I've been told iCloud can be affected. To be safe, backup on iTunes and when things are stable, you may try iCloud backups again. (note, you can still use iCloud itself, but maybe avoid backing up via iCloud for now)

Another note - today when the event happened - my Apple Watched stayed connected to the iPhone (no red Disconnect icon on the app watch). It means the bluetooth and/or WiFi have been active. I guess the phone in practice is not shut off.... Meanwhile I checked the diagnostics crash logs - it shows crashes in WhatsApp and Twitter Kit ....

If someone says this, remind them that this error may not uniquely identifiable in diagnostics. So they would never catch it by looking only at logs.

Your watch colf have been connected to wifi and not Bluetooth.

To check go to the glances and look at the one that says connected. If you have a cloud on the screen your watch is connected by wifi and not Bluetooth.

I had this problem but forgot to check my watch.

All of my friends who are having issues have iPhones with a TSMC-manufactured CPU. My Samsung A9 has had zero issues. It would be interesting to see if there is a correlation.

No WiFi in my car when driving There was no WiFi at all . And no Cloud on the screen. So, the Watch was connected directly to the iPhone

I did not have this freeze/crash during the first 4-5 days of usage. But as soon as installed and start using some apps (WhatsApp , Twitter, viber ) - it start happened

Happened to me this morning. 6s Plus running iOS 9.0.2. I did a hard reset and it came back on. My Watch showed that is was connected, even though the phone had turned off. Glad to know I'm not the only one who has experienced this issue.

Does it matter what iPhone you have? No, iPhone 6S, 6S+, 6, 6+, 5, 5S+, and so on have all experienced the issue
Is it caused by an iCloud backup restore? No, people experiencing this issue have used iCloud restore, iTunes restore, and setting up as new
Is it an iOS 9 issue? Yes, probably. People who have all versions of iOS 9 have experienced this issue.

I wonder if the new home button has some flaw. That would not be good as it would be a huge recall.

As you read above - I had the same. The phone in fact is not shut off but simply the screen is off.

Happened to me yesterday. Iphone 6s , had 60 % battery and it just went black. Only holding home button and power button did anything. Happened on 9.0.1 and then again on 9.0.2. Called apple and they said they have no idea why it would just shut off completely

My phones are still ok. iOS 9.0.2 ip 6s 128 . ... But I travel a lot and I cannot be without phone. Have to take a spare iphone 6 with me instead of selling it on Swappa.

Shame on Apple!

I had it happen for the first time overnight. I plugged it in at about 50% battery before going to bed and it was OK. Woke up and it was unresponsive, home button wasn't hot. Had to hard reboot (home button + power button). It was at 100% battery when it came back up.

64GB Space Grey iPhone 6s running iOS 9.0.2. This is a brand new phone, got it on Friday as a warranty replacement for a defective one. It's the AT&T version with Band 30.

Just happened to me for the third time. iPhone 6s 128Gb. Nothing in crash logs. Phone was sat on the table and had been checking my Podcast list just prior. Left for 5 mins and then found screen black and phone unresponsive. Home button did not feel hot to touch. The phone was setup as new on launch day. As per the last two times it required a hard reset to bring back to life. I'm using iOS 9.1 Beta 3 so have fed info back to Apple.
