So, would I return my 6s Plus within the 14 day windows and ask for a new one; or is this definitely a software problem? I have the TSMC chip.

But why to return ? It is not possible all 7 millions phones (half of the 13 mil sold first weekend) to be returned. I think it is software issue and most probably -3rd party apps issue. As I said before - I had crash logs related to Twitter and whatsapp (during the event). Now I removed both of them and still monitoring of black screen will appear again. 2 days already no issues and no crash files.

Obviously the 3rd party developers area still not ready with the ios9 and iPhone 6s new screen touch hardware and this causes the pass to crash and to freez the screen

Hasn't happened to me yet. Kinda crazy to look at those poll numbers though. Hopefully a software update fixes this issue soon.

Had this happen 3 times now, all have been when phone is idle (not being used), running iOS 9.0.2, phone was new (shrink wrapped) Sept 25th, populated via iTunes backup from my old 4s. The iOS version is possibly not the culprit, the first two where with 9.0.1 and tonight's was under 9.0.2.

As I stated in my earlier post, try to turn off iCloud completely in iPhone' Settings and see if it still freezes over night / while idle (go to Settings -> iCloud, then at the bottom of the screen, tap Sign Out).

1. iPhone 6s plus 128MB iOS 9.0.2 - idle for min 5 minutes prior . From chip id it's a TSMC
2. New (first time iOS user)
3. n/a
4. No
5. No

This is my first "odd" shutdown since I had the phone on the 25th. Since I'm a new iOS user all was setup from scratch. I have plenty of apps installed, but the phone is all legit, no jailbreaking etc. I was on wifi & connected to a femtocell. Many apps have background data disabled

I had noticed a whatsapp notification pop up on the phone which was on the desk, but was busy writing. About 5-10 mins later i picked my phone up intending to reply, and the screen was blank. neither home nor power caused the screen to come on.

The battery was pretty much on 100%

I didn't have to press the power button for long - perhaps 2s (a normal power on?) at which point the apple logo appeared & the system booted normally.

I have an iPhone 5S 64GB. I started experiencing this problem soon after updating to iOS 9. It got to the point that it would happen every few minutes...almost every time the phone would go into sleep mode. I tried to restore my backup, but it wouldn't let me, saying there wasn't enough space available. After that, it went a couple of days before it did it, again, and now does it a couple times a day. This definitely concerns me as I use it for certain alarms.

6s plus running 9.0.1

I've only had this issue once so far a few days ago. I've been running 9.0.1 for over a week and purposely not updating to 9.0.2 since I've seen others having the issue on that version and because I'm trying narrow down the cause.

I had not had this issue until I downloaded a content/ad blocker (purify, I think). I set up its settings and then turned content blocking on. I tried a few websites to see if it was working and then put my phone down for a while. I came back about an hour or so later to use my phone and it wouldn't respond but was also not hot or warm. I did the home+standby button reset and my 6s plus started working again. I turned off content blocking and haven't had the issue come back. I left the content blocker app installed, just turned off content blocking in settings.

Can some of you guys try the same?

Not that it still isn't possible that the content blocker is causing problems, but I don't have a content/ad blocker installed on my phone and still have the problem. There has been the theory that it could be certain apps causing the problem. If it's varying apps, then it could be hard to track down the problem.

BTW, my phone has gotten hot at times (usually after charging), but it's not the norm when the phone shuts down.

I ran into this last night unfortunately. Phone was charging overnight. I woke up, grabbed phone and it was off. It would not power on at all. I tried holding the home + power button and no luck.

When I removed the charging cable from the device, then it turned on. My battery is draining today which is odd because since launch it hasn't drained like this at all...

iPhone 6s Plus, space grey, 64gb on Verizon. Purchased at Apple Store on launch day.

Have anybody tried to disable iCloud backup and check how it goes? Afaik the backup process is automatically initiated when the device is idle (e.g mostly in the night time, when most of the complaints here are about).

I don't backup to icloud so mine is disabled....

Interesting that some people are reporting that their Apple Watch is still showing as connected to the phone when it happens. It's 3 days since my last one, I reset all settings. I'd done that after the 2nd then updated to beta 3 and forgot to reset.

Yesterday, when I had my first issue with the phone... at one point my phone was disconnected... at the time I happened I thought it odd as I wasn't that far from the phone (it happens often at home if my phone is in the computer room and I'm outside doing yard work at the opposite end of the house/yard). But yesterday I was sitting right outside the back door and the phone was right inside on the dining room table... however it "connected" back again as soon as I walked in the house and was going to pick up the phone. didn't check it at that time... but the phone remained "connected" the rest of the time til I discovered my phone had shut off.

So I just had a chat with apple online and they are telling me that 9.0.2 is the fix for this problem and I need to get off the beta. Which is interesting since many on here still have the issue with 9.0.2. This is really starting to annoy me as it just happened to me again today, sent a text put my phone in my pocket and took it back out 5 minutes later and completely unresponsive. Had to do a hard reset again, this is the worst experience I have had with an iPhone and I hope apple can fix this very soon.

iPhone 5S with iOS 9.0.0, 9.0.1 and 9.0.2. Everything was fine when we were using 8.X.X. It randomly turns itself off and can't get it back on until we plug it into a charger

I'm sorry I am really not being sarcastic - but how do I get off the beta?

Well the only way they explained it to me was to put my phone into recovery mode and restore it that way with iTunes but I then asked about restoring from my backup so I had my text messages and everything and they said it shouldn't be an issue if I restore from an iCloud backup because they don't hold onto an os version.

It really seems to come down to the fact that iOS 9 is the biggest turd of an os. I don't recall having these issues when I was beta testing iOS 9 it only seemed to start happening after iOS 9 went live to the public. There are some real problems with it and this isn't something we should have to be doing with our devices, if I wanted to deal with a clunky os I would have gotten an android.

6s+ running 9.1b3
Set up as new.
I applied the reset all settings "fix" on Saturday night and have not had a freeze/shut-down incident since.
