i was listening to music on my 6s+ earlier.... then i set it on the dining room table. a few hours later i picked it up and nothing.... would not turn on. i had to do the 2 button reset... the buttons or phone didn't feel hot... but who knows how long it was off?

6s+ 128GBios 9.0.2

i JUST put my new skin and glass protector on it.... and now i'm going to have to get it replaced.... NOT fun!

I still await my first reboot I currently own Air 2, iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 6s been trying to make it reboot. All on 9.0.2 updated on Wednesday via fresh install

What are we seeing from the stats? From what I gather, it's so random, sparodic and patternless. I've experienced 3 in over 7 days. Has anyone just had 1?

well, got my 3rd shut down just now. phone was inactive on the table, and wouldn't turn on when I tried to use it.

this is such a severe issue - phone can die off any minute and anyone needing to reach you wouldn't be able to until the next time you use your phone, realize it's crapped out, and then do a hard reboot. totally unacceptable.

I have this issue and am going to make a video on the steps listed to resolve it and see how it works.
1.) on 9.0.2
2.)Restored Via itunes (old phone had 9.0.1 the backup i restored from)
Shut off a lot on 9.0.1 happens less now but still about once per day battery is over 75% full. Once when i woke up it was off, other time just put in down on table 30min came back and it was off.

My new 6s turned off by itself last night but then it also came back on by itself immediately. I was loading an advert-heavy website at the time and it hasn't happened since.

The whole 'set up as new' meme needs to die. Except for testing or a *verified* corrupt data issue, this went away when Apple started added other devices to the iPhone backup.

It's bad enough to have reinstall years (yes, years) worth of app setups and logins, but now that the Apple Watch is in the mix, we are supposed to blow away what will be years of health and other data and also set that up from scratch?

Is that to also apply to other things like HomeKit when they get into real use? To coin a term, *Pre*post*erous!!

They either need better diagnostics or ways to backup and restore pieces of the ecosystem.

Good grief. A new phone takes long enough to set up when *using* a backup.

ETA: neither of the answers is even remotely acceptable, especially when many of us, myself included, did NOT use iCloud backups to set our new phones up. I used encrypted iTunes especially because I wanted health data and passwords, etc.

Agreed. No way I'm giving up my health-related data. Plus I don't believe backups have anything to do with this issue.

I'm also a bit distressed by just how hot my Home button was when my 6s Plus crapped out yesterday and had to be rebooted like everyone else's. It was absolutely burning hot.

Happened to me this morning. Woke up the device unresponsive, screen would not turn on. Had to hold home and power to force reboot.

1. iPhone 6S Plus 128 GB Space Gray, iOS 9.1 beta 3, charging overnight in idle state
2. Restored from backup
3. Through iTunes
4. No kernel panics that I'm aware of
5. No heat warnings (it was not hot when the issue emerged).

Just happened again. Same exact circumstances.

Exactly backup's have nothing to do with this, and I hope it gets through to Apple. I have setup mine from fresh brand new no restoring of ANY backup and it happened to me yesterday.

I did an online chat with Apple, they didn't want to take any logs etc, and just said let them know if "Reset All Settings" works... Then next step is to wipe and restore wtf!....
They SHOULD be taking all logs.

Went to the Apple Store today. Both mine and my wife's 6s+'s have had multiple shutdowns since we got them on Sunday. The tech ran diagnostics on my wife's phone and didn't see anything special. Her solution was for us to setup as new because this was most likely due to corrupt backups over years of having iPhones and that giving us new phones might not fix the issue. I'll see how this week goes.

Had it happen to my 6S Plus overnight! - caused me to miss my alarm!!! Lat thing I did before putting it down and going to bed was hit the iCloud 'Back Up' button and let it go....

Wanted to add I don't think backups have anything to do. I did my iPhone 6s Plus as a brand new iPhone and have been having this issues every other day. My phone was off this am and luckily enough my wife woke me up cuz my alarm did not go off. It's ridiculous that I now have to find time to go to apple to get fixed

Not sure what 'going to Apple' will accomplish if this is a software issue with 9.x as we suspect.

Glad to see (you know what I mean...) another case of backups not being the issue!

Happened on mine and my wife's 6S.

iPhone 6S. 64gb. Rose gold & Space Grey. AT&T.
9.0.1 and 9.1 beta 3.
One was restored through iTunes and the other setup as new.

Just a heads up, I've been updating my post (#307 on page 13) regarding my experiences with this issue, if any of you are curious. It's making me think this problem might be software-related, though I can't explain why some are experiencing a hot Home button.

Add me to the list.
Was reading a news website when I put the phone down to get a glass of water (didn't lock the phone, left screen on) came back 1 min later and my 6s+ wouldn't wake or turn on. Had to do the two button reset.
Hopefully it's only a one time thing.
Home button was on fire. :/

Have anybody tried to disable iCloud backup and check how it goes? Afaik the backup process is automatically initiated when the device is idle (e.g mostly in the night time, when most of the complaints here are about).

same happened to me. got this 6s as 9.0
set up as a new iPhone.
updated both to 9.01 and 9.02 when they came out.
can't remember the first one was .01 or .02, but i can confirm 9.02 still have this problem.

had like 4 times in a week.

have thought about getting a replacement phone, but looks like this won't solve the problem at all..... so, just save apple an iPhone.

happened to me several times since late iOS 8 on my iPhone 5s and it's still happening sometimes. every time i have an important appointment the next morning, i have to set another alarm clock to make sure i don't miss it.

didn't happen after updating to 9.0.2 yet.

back then the device was set up as new and then restored via itunes backup.

edit: okay, just happened on 9.0.2 :)

Interesting that some people are reporting that their Apple Watch is still showing as connected to the phone when it happens. It's 3 days since my last one, I reset all settings. I'd done that after the 2nd then updated to beta 3 and forgot to reset.

Right, it may be working more or less fine (except for the display and whatever the hot home button is in some cases). You just can't tell that because you can't see it. :)
