Went to an Apple Store, and randomly picked up iPhone 6S' in the store to see if they were on. 5 out of 44 6S' did not wake from sleep. They were not out of batteries as pressing and holding lock button did not show battery charge sign. Only resetting the device ( pressing and holding home button + lock button for several seconds) made these phones usable again.

Interestingly, my friends who have recently bought 6S' (15+ people) said they never experienced this issue...

If your phone is more than couple days old and with beta 5 and still has the issue i would just return the phone.

Why would new hardware help? If you are on PB5, send a feedback report. The logs may help. All we do know is that PB4 helped a lot and PB5 even more. I've not had it happen at all since loading betas 4 and 5 (6 days now) and it was several times a day before that. But we still don't know the series of events that cause it.

Please send a feedback report. Obviously more data is needed. New hardware is not the answer. As should be clear by now. :)

This has happened to me twice in about a week. iPhone 6S 64 GB and the non-samsung chip.
It happened for me this night when My phone was charging, connected to wi-fi and locked which is the circumstances required for automatic backup with iCloud.
Not sure if this has been discussed before in this thread but my latest backup happened during the night at 02.37 which very well could be when IT shut down.

Just a thought I had

Just had this happen for first time. iPhone 6S running 9.02 plugged in overnight with wifi. Luckily woke up earlier than my alarm or I would have been livid.

In my case it's only happened this one time so far and I do also believe it may have to do with iCloud backups. If it happens again I'm going to try turning off iCloud backups and see what happens.

Happened to my Samsung 6s 64GB SG again this morning (2nd occurrence). Left the phone charging, on Wi-Fi, no alarms turned on. I kinda had a feeling it would happen again so it didn't surprise me, did the usual hard reset and all back to normal for now. I set alarms on multiple devices nowadays just to be safe. Pretty annoying considering the cost of an iPhone...

Interesting backup theory; several times on 9.0.2 mine died in my hand or nearby, not plugged in, so no backup going on then. I think it's a combination of factors/causes which is why each beta removes more and more of the issue.

Hope when this is fixed we get a root cause for it!

What's interesting is a day before the issue happened for me I woke up to a iCloud password prompt and I typed in password. Then phone ran super hot and drained fast. I looked and a backup was trying to run even though it was not plugged in and locked.

Also last night when it crashed no backup happened it says last backup was yesterday morning when I did a manual backup.

I think if it happens at night while plugged in on wifi backup is a strong culprit since that's when it would try to run and it's a system level process so could definitely cause a kernel panic or crash.

Maybe it's not just backuping but iCloud connection in general since other people have had the issue at other times than after/during backup. This is my first iPhone so not used to iCloud but maybe certain apps cause the issue while interacting with iCloud? Just throwing thoughts out there but since both times I had the issue was during night and I presume after a backup, it might be connected.

Had it once on a iP6 (not 6s) while on 9.1b3. Not had an issue since b4 or b5 or prior to iOS9. I suspect its an iOS 9 issue not hardware.

iPhone 6s 128 Space Gray
Samsung chip
Setup as new phone (no restore)
iOS 9.0.2
Overnight idle state not plugged in to anything.

Had been working fine for about a week. Went to bed with it working normally. Woke up the next morning to the device black screen, non-responsive, and an EXTREMELY hot home button. Performed the forced reboot (home + power for 10 seconds) and it's been working fine since then.

Not sure if it matters, but I bought the phone from the local Apple Store through the new upgrade program. It's being used on AT&T.

I've got two ResetCounter entry logs from around that time:

Date: 2015-10-09 09:32:23 -0500
Reset count: 0
Boot failure count: 1
Boot faults: btn_rst

Edited to add chip manufacturer.

I've had my iPhone 6s Plus since day one. I leave it plugged in every night, both to charge and because it is my alarm clock. In spite of this I've never had this problem.

Just happened to me. Phone call rang through but couldn't turn the phone on to answer. Had to hold power and home button to reset to get it back. Phone was not connected to the charger.

iOS 9.1 Beta 5
TSMC chip
6S 64GB ATT

:(

Second time in two days. 2 Alarms didn't sound this morning. Almost left the house late because of it.

Again, Beta 5. Phone on nightstand next to bed. Not charging.

That sounds much worse than what most people are experiencing, I would have Support take a look, that sounds like hardware.

Yeah, I've not heard of anyone with more than a couple a day (which is more or less what I had). You could try loading the beta, but get it swapped out first, if you are close to a store.

i went back to the store and they made a huge problem and wouldn't let me swap the phone with another one and said "no one ever had this problem with their iphone 6s and all our customers are happy" and I'm here like "24 HOURS only" and the phone is crap, so after a lot of arguments and calling out the administrator of the store they said they will "CHECK" it first and see if anything is actually wrong with it because as they said "customers some times damage their phones" they even suggested i dropped water on it???? they didn't seem like they believed me. so at last they said we will check it until tomorrow morning and if it really has something wrong they will swap my iphone 6s for another one.
and because i have such bad luck in everything i feel like they wouldn't swap it or will just give me another one that has the same exact problem. i spent 844.15 US Dollars on this crap (yes it's that expensive in my country)
we could say my first ever 24 hours experience with the iPhone is the worst in history.
