just happened to me, idle in my pocket. 6S, received on 9/24. first and only time. on 9.0.2. required a reboot.

the poll is kinda useless BTW. of course the poll will show more people who have had the issue...the vast majority of people who haven't experienced it are not looking for polls about it.

i went back to the store and they made a huge problem and wouldn't let me swap the phone with another one and said "no one ever had this problem with their iphone 6s and all our customers are happy" and I'm here like "24 HOURS only" and the phone is crap, so after a lot of arguments and calling out the administrator of the store they said they will "CHECK" it first and see if anything is actually wrong with it because as they said "customers some times damage their phones" they even suggested i dropped water on it???? they didn't seem like they believed me. so at last they said we will check it until tomorrow morning and if it really has something wrong they will swap my iphone 6s for another one.
and because i have such bad luck in everything i feel like they wouldn't swap it or will just give me another one that has the same exact problem. i spent 844.15 US Dollars on this crap (yes it's that expensive in my country)
we could say my first ever 24 hours experience with the iPhone is the worst in history.

Can you return then repurchase?

The standard Apple company line "We've never heard of this issue before" or "Try restore from new." Followed by maybe there was water damage.

I'm very sorry you've had this experience, I had my 6s replaced instantly for a tiny, little scratch with no questions asked. The staff here in France generally seem quite laid back. I warned them of this issue because I found a 6s dead in the store, and they didn't acknowledge the problem (but can you blame them in front of customers?). Apple Stores usually have excellent customer service so I can only hope your issue is resolved to your satisfaction soon.

Issue:
Many users have found out that their iPhone 6S's and other iOS devices not waking up, even when left unattended. Although it appears that the device turned off due to the screen not displaying, it may actually be frozen.

How do I fix it?
It is fixed by forcing a restart of holding the home and power button for 10 seconds.

Is this problem a priority bug fix for Apple?
I was told by an Apple rep that this error isn't well documented. Based on our survey, this is probably because it is not identifiable in diagnostics. But we still need to look at them, because they provide substantial info about the device.

How can I help?
1. Send diagnostics to Apple
On your iOS device, go to Settings > Privacy > Diagnostics & Usage, and select Automatically Send
2. Call Apple Care and let them check.
3. Take the survey below. Be specific and show us your diagnostics logs.

*if you are a Beta user, submit your bug through the app.

What causes it?
I've been told by Apple support that at least one of (many?) possible causes is likely corrupted iCloud backups. If you've restored your device from any previous backup through iCloud, and that backup is corrupted, it could result in this problem. There has been some acknowledgment that iCloud still has bugs.

How should I fix the problem completely?
First, make sure you are running the latest iOS 9 point release. If you run beta, those are inherently unstable so your results may vary.

Method 1: (for those who setup a device as new OR restored from backup)

Reset all your settings and test for a couple days for stability before attempting anything else. (Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings>

Method 2: (for those who restored from backup)
If #1 fails, make sure all your iCloud data is saved then setup as a new iPhone (here). You'll need to re-download all your apps manually so create a list first. Your iCloud data can be synced from your account, so that part is covered.

The key is to get a clean install and then create a backup from there. Then, create a backup on iTunes (not iCloud) and save that one. Test for a few days and if it's okay, you can create an iCloud backup again.

Please report your results after trying these. Especially if the problem is still not fixed.

Setting up your device as new means you are responsible for keeping your data. Please ask Apple support if you aren't comfortable.

Survey:
The survey is still open but the spreadsheet is paused for now.

1. Model, OS, and actions before the problem occurred.
2. Was the device started as
new, or restored from a backup?
3. Was it
restored through iTunes or restored through iCloud?
4. Has the device displayed a heat warning prior to shutting down?
5. Please post any crash logs from your device. (Settings>Privacy>Diagnostics & Usage>Diagnostics & Usage Data.)

Sample Diagnostics:
1. iPhone 6S 64 GB Gold, iOS 9.01, idle state
2. Restored from backup
3. Restored through iCloud
4. None
5. See below:

I have had this happen to me 4 times now. It has been a big problem for me and one time it would not turn on for over an hour.

It happened to me for the first time last night while charging. Had my 6s since launch day, on 9.0.2. Had to do the hard reset to get it to turn on.

The only thing different about yesterday was that I used the phone pretty heavily yesterday and there was only 18% battery remaining when I plugged it in to the charger. It's never been that low before. Normally I still have at least 40-50% by the end of the day.

I'm on my third occurrence. I can not believe that I have a brand new Apple iPhone 6s that I DO NOT TRUST! I've come to the phone three times after several hours to find it unresponsive and to all appearances dead. Hard resets bring it back to show ample charge. My first call to Apple support had me reset all settings, and I was about to set up as a new phone yesterday with support. However a senior advisor said it would not help this issue. A fix is supposedly being worked on very hard right now. This phone is my only phone and no matter how much I want to love it; I'll return it if I can't trust it. I've had more issues with Apple products in the last two years than I had in the previous ten. Hoping 9.1 fixes this BS.

Sadly this doesn't only affect 6s or 6s+ it is a problem in iOS9. My experience with 9.1 beta 4 and 5 has been excellent, not one recurrence since Beta 4. I am confident it will be fixed in short order.

Maybe I'm missing something... For those that have the problem and are on 9.0.2: is there a reason you aren't loading the public beta? Seriously.

I and most people on it have had no problems in almost two weeks (since PB4 came out l).

why on earth customers should run betas? if there are problems, apple should make official updates quicker. when you buy a device with this price tag, it should work flawlessly from the beginning.

Agree that there should have been a 9.0.3 before Apple TV launch (which is what 9.1 is waiting for)

Well, sure. But if you can't wait and want a fix right now, load the beta. :)

Until a 'final' fix comes out, there appear to be two answers, if you have this problem: complain or load the beta. The final 9.1 will be a quicker update for you, then, too.

Yes, ideally there would be a 9.0.3 perhaps, but looks like resources are on 9.1 seeing it's on beta 5+.

Work flawlessly from the beginning? No way in today's software and hardware development cycle (and timeframe).

Beta software is released early for testing purposes. It is not intended to be a final consumer product. I never install beta software on any of my primary devices.

Okay, fine, that's you. Then don't. This is a public beta. How many of us have a extra 'non-production' device to load it on? Seriously?

Apple knows that they would get real-world results when they added the public beta and they did/do. Especially if/when you wait until the latter betas when major bugs are baked out, there are no or minimal downsides to loading a beta. I don't know of any large bugs in beta 4 or 5. (There may be some, feel feel to list them, but they don't appear to me or affect me. Bugs may be in the ATV or iPad Pro which are the primary reason for this version.)

All I ever said if you really really want the fix for this thread's topic bug, load the beta. It's the only known fix at this time.

I 've experienced the same issue guys.... it pisses me off honestly , I wanna return it back and get replacement. I 'll try to reset the settings , anyway . Hoe this is software issue rather then factory battery deficiency

Iphone 6S, 64 Gb space gray , Verizon Wireless IOS 9.0.2

My problems went away with PB 4 and PB 5. iPhone 6s, 64GB Space Gray, VzW.

Are we sure this is purely a software issue? Why didn't any of us see this problem when we were using all the different variants of 9.0 betas on our iPhone 6/6+?

Just watched my phone die. Might be a separate issue but phone was open on home screen when all of a sudden it went all multicoloured lines then shut off. I physically had to turn it back on.

Today I returned that piece of crap, I going to keep my 5s for another year, thank god I did not upgrade and it's still on 8.4.1... I'm tired of dealing with this many calls to support and they kept saying restore and more excuses. It's unacceptable paying a lot of money and have this kind of issues with a "premium device".
