Sound like you use some cheap Chinese no brand case, it could be the plastic of that case somehow has effect with the iphone case.

You talk with Apple and see if they can give you a replacement, if not then...next time don't use cheap China case with expensive iphone.

Lots of people use knock off cases without these issues. Dont be quick to judge.

At 3:31 Unbox Therapy identifies that the 6s+'s anodization is much thicker than the 6+. This was possibly because the inclusion of Zinc in the 7000 aluminum while strengthening the alloy, makes it more susceptible to corrosion.

Looking at your pictures I'm baffled by the type of wear your phone has undergone. Can you provide a link to the case you were using while this occurred. I'm not saying this occurred, but to me it looks like the phone was in a pocket with other hard materials, like loose change or keys. Regardless if this were the case, this type of wear doesn't make sense without some type of factory defect in the anodization process.

You may have gotten a phone made from a defective or impure ingot of 7K aluminum. Maybe it has too much zinc.

There could be a lot more to come.

Please do a serial number look ups and tell us where and when it was made.

I was in the process of requesting for a replacement while I was posting this thread. And as of now they have approved of my replacement. I reside in Singapore and it isn't easy to get in touch with Apple over here as we have no official Apple Store with a Genius Bar. And also because I'm out of the 14 days exchange policy, it took longer than usual to escalate my case and get a replacement. Took me 2 hours of phone calls plus 2 emails in fact.

And to the guy who said I mishandle my phone, I sure as hell didn't. I treat my 6s Plus like how I treat my 6 Plus. No keys or any hard objects are in my pocket other than my phone ONLY. And my 6 Plus was naked for most part of its 1 year time with me while this 6s Plus was put into a cover since Day 1. Yet my 1yo 6 Plus was in a better shape than my 18 days old 6s Plus. So STOP telling me it's my fault because it surely isn't. Thanks.

It is certainly chipping because I brought it to an Authorised Apple Service Provider and the technician there put it under a microscope and told me it isn't corrosion (my suspicion previously) and told me its chipping of the aluminium.

That's the reason why I'm posting this thread to see if it's just me only or there are more cases of this issue.

I feel your pain dude. Knowing it isn't your fault yet the world comes down on you hard like it must've been your "keys". Don't listen to people who just want to defend Apple at all costs. Not worth it. Get your replacement and move on.

How do I do a serial number lookup? Yes I do truly believe my phone belongs to a batch that unpure or badly anodised aluminium was used.

Could be that when heated the anodic coating cracks due to dehydration,

and those vertical cracks that typically don't have the propensity to flake are meeting up with horizontal cracks caused by intermetallic particles in the 7000 series aluminum,

and the joining of vertical and horizontal cracks creates the flaking away.

Or the intermetallics are present at the coating interface and subsequent horizontal cracking causes the flaking.

Sounds super scientific. Can you dumb it down for me? Hahaha

After looking carefully at the images I don't know why some people are so intent on blaming you. I don't see any indication that it's damage from being rough on it. Sure looks defective to me, but I'm only looking at pictures not the phone.

What I do know is the two 6S Plus models I bought are far less durable than the 6 models they replaced. Both my wife and daughter are hard on theirs and both are already scratched. Their 6 Plus models went at least six months before they began to scratch. At the end of the year they looked about the same as their 5S models looked after one year. By the end of this model cycle the 6S will really be trashed. Oh well.

Sorry but I have owned too much Apple stuff that has been flawless and do not agree. If you live in these forums you might think so but Apple does a pretty good job in my opinion.
I bought an iPod mini for my then girlfriend (now wife) in 2005 that was faultless out of the box and is still working now. That was the start of my interest in Apple stuff but unfortunately also the last time I had such a good experience.

My iPhone 3G had a sizeable light leak down one side of the screen.

My 2009 MacBook Pro came with a dent pre installed on the back, from the factory (hence my username!)

My iPhone 3GS had multiple screen issues, my 4S had a poorly fitted vibration motor and kernel panics, my 5 had dead pixels, all of these were replaced, some of them multiple times until I got one that actually met the spec.

My current 6S is ok so far but less than a month old of course...

Basically Apple products are fantastic but their QA has been absolutely appalling for years, no doubt about it.

Something is really fishy bout this.... Brand new phones just doesn't chip like those pictures. It got exposed to something.

Problem is none of my usage and storage patterns or even my pants changed. So what could it have been exposed to? And I'm not a technician or engineer. I don't go to labs or factories where there's weird chemicals.

Have to agree from 2008 onwards Apple's QA have been pretty shoddy. I think it's due to the sheer volume they are producing and the cheap labours hired by Foxconn.

With any luck at all you will find a problem with your new 6S. Maybe you are not trying hard enough!
