No I think you got it wrong. The pictures are showing my NEW iPhone 6s Plus that's like 18 days old. My previous 6 Plus that's 1 year old and naked for almost its whole life is in a better shape than this 6s Plus.

Apples QC is pretty garbage though. The antenna gate got by, the 5 chipping got by, the bending of the 6+ got by and millions of yellow screens, loose home buttons get by.

I wouldn't call their quality control garbage by any stretch, but I have to confess that when I saw the first post, my mind went straight away to where yours did, to the several issues that've reached the field before people realized they really were issues.

Where Apple do make a mistake or notice a flaw, however, I think they still have a good reputation for stepping up to the plate and taking care of the issues. I think Motorola also does a good job of taking care of its customers in the field, and Apple and Motorola do a much better job IMHO than Dell, Samsung, and almost everybody else.

:)

I hope the original poster keeps us advised of where his conversations go, and what Apple decides to do.

I'm curious whether this'll turn out to be a general problem for some of the colors of 6S and 6S Plus.

My 6S Plus Space Gray has no such issue, but the original poster's issue is certainly well within the bounds of normal conjecture, it seems to me.

This forum is full of the most pretentious people on the planet.

Obviously OP came here to see if his issue was common or not just as a point of reference, and people started jumping down the guys throat. "Oh YOU scratched it!" "You OBVIOUSLY put it in your pocket!" "Maybe YOU should get a case!" "Apple has NEVER made any mistakes!"

Give me a break. Did these people read the original post? Apple sold thirteen MILLION devices on launch weekend. The notion of 1 of those 13-million having manufacturing defects in the aluminum is very conceivable. Stop playing "detective" with the pictures because you just finished watching CSI. You have no idea what you're talking about. How about you listen to what he's saying instead of accusing him of things you cannot speak intelligently about.

OP: Can you keep us posted if you get a replacement? My biggest fear with my phone 6s Plus is scuffing/denting/chipping the aluminum so this thread freaked me out for sure, lol. I'd be curious to know if you get a replacement if it does the same thing. Thanks brother.

I have to say, although my space grey 6S does not have any of the chipping issue shown here, I did find it very easy to scratch - the first day I had it, I dropped it caseless a couple of times (wasn't used to the size etc) and it now has quite noticeable scratches on all four corners. Entirely my fault of course and I can live with it, but I can't help wondering whether the anodisation on the super duper new aluminium couldn't have been a little more resilient..

Haters? No we usually call them Apple apologists. These are the people who claim that iOS 9 has no lag issues, 16gb is just enough, and 5400rpm on a $2k computer is wonderful.

Aluminium on my 6s Plus has been chipping on its own especially at the edges. It's appearing at the bottom of my phone all along the antenna band and now it's appearing at the top. It's also appearing around my pentalobe screw holes, lightning port and headphone jack.

I seriously think it's a manufacturing issue. Some problem with the 7000 series aluminium that's causing the edges of the aluminium to be very very easily chipped. I used my phone with a cover since Day 1 and yet this happened. I used my 6 Plus pretty much naked for the whole year and yet it hasn't chipped even though it has softer 6000 series aluminium.

Do any of you have this issue?

never mind the scratches, I'm cringing just looking at that iPhone laying naked on some stone floor....

I saw pitting like that on some pictures posted on Amazon.com for various iPhone cases. People claimed a certain clear case did that to their iPhones somehow. I'm trying to find the case but I have looked at hundreds of cases on Amazon so it may take me a bit to come back and edit this post to give you a link.

Verbal descriptions of pitting due to a clear Air Jacket case can be found here: http://www.apple.com/shop/reviews/HGNH2ZM/B/power-support-air-jacket-for-iphone-6-clear?page=0&rf=1

I have that case (but the version with a cover) and have stopped using it after reading these reviews. I agree that mine fits poorly and I didn't want to wait to see if claims of pitting and scratching were also true.

Still wondering if the OP has taken the phone back to Apple for some sort of resolution? I don't believe it was his actions that cause this, and Apple should/will stand behind the device.

I've not seen other devices with this type of damage or problem. Just take it to Apple and get it replaced.

I believe on page 2 or 3, he stated apple was taking care the issue.

Thanks, I must have missed that.

IMO, nothing to see here. Now, if it suddenly becomes a widespread issue, that will change. But a single instance of a problem and Apple resolved the situation to the OP's satisfaction, that's just "business as usual".

Interesting... One of my friends complained there are "random peeled-off marks" on her 6S around "speaker holes." We, including her, quickly concluded that they could have been caused by the fact that she carries her phone in her purse. She does have a case but the speakers are exposed.

Please keep us posted, OP

This post, irony.

Yes guys. Thanks for concern. Apple has agreed to issue me with a replacement which is currently on its way from Shenzhen China. They reminded me to thoroughly check my phone upon receiving it. Haha.

They kind of agree this isn't a normal wear and tear or accidental damage issue. Because the areas where these chipping are appearing aren't really the most exposed areas. They are in fact at the least exposed areas. They claimed they will bring back my phone for engineering team to check and I requested them to keep me posted on their findings, which they surprisingly agreed. Though I doubt they will, given their secretive nature.

Most unusual! Glad it worked out!

Your phone was built the same factory and week as my first 6S Plus. I had a spot on the screen and exchanged it. The phone I have now, was built a week earlier. Hmmm....

Your issue is quite unique.

You know what? I have a black spot on my LCD too. It's like a dead pixel. Near the top left corner. I didn't mention because I don't mind that dead pixel. But I can't ignore the chipped aluminium.

Will you say what case you are using? And what skin? Again, glad you have a new one coming, sucks you had to deal with this.

I have no links to the case or the rear protector that I'm using because it's bought at some cheapo handphone accessories stall. But rest assured I've been buying from them pretty regularly and all my previous iPhones had been fine. Except this one.

I still don't believe this is a manufacturing issue. If you want publicty, OK, you got it :)

Have fun with the replacement!
If I wanted publicity I could have done some stunts on the streets and post it on YouTube. I don't have to waste my time deliberately scratching my new 6s Plus and devise a nice story to post here for publicity sake. Stop being a ******** and open up your mind. What's so improbable about Apple accidentally releasing a new iphone with defects out of the box? We all know they rush production for launch day. Such a thing could very well happen.
