The only thing they need to do is get the wallpaper to STOP moving as soon as the icons land. That would completely fix this weird looking, disjointed animation in my opinion.

Once they do that, then it will be fixed.

The wallpaper has to START zooming at the very beginning of the animation.

Then it would practically be the same as iOS 9. iOS 6s wallpaper zoomed with the icons, iOS 7 lost this and zoomed in on apps instead, then iOS 10 emphasized the icon zoom and added wallpaper zoom back. (Also iOS 10 beta 1 had a blur fade affect on the wallpaper, removed later probably due to old devices lagging like crazy)

Not really. It has to do with how quickly the iPhone 7 models respond to the press of the home button. Unlike other iOS models, the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus begin animating IMMEDIATELY after the home button is pressed. It doesn't wait for the chance of a second press (unlike other iOS devices). If you do press a second time while it's animating, it changes mid-animation and goes to the app switcher. That's why they had to make the animation different. It's a completely different and new animation that is unique to the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus models only.
Not really, My 6S pretty much does the same thing.

No, your 6s stops the wallpaper when the icons stop moving.

Oh... sorry I misread that. I thought you meant remove the wallpaper movement completely. Oops

Wait, which post are you talking about, I'm confused.

You said your 6s pretty much does the same thing. I'm saying the wallpaper should stop at the same time as the icons stopping. The whole animation should end all at once. The wallpaper starts late, and ends late which is slightly distracting.

Oh, well I was referring to this:

Well, I know for a fact that there is a delay when you press the home button on any non-iPhone 7 device. Your 6s will wait a second (to see if you click again) before proceeding to the home screen. The iPhone 7 doesn't do that. It starts the animation immediately when you press the home button, then it interrupts the animation if you happen to click it again.

Try it. Press the home button on your iPhone 6 and notice how it takes a second before the animation begins.

I love that the new home button is super fast and does the animation as soon as you press the button. But I wish it was a smooth animation....

It's not just that though, the whole app itself zooms out weird. That's the main thing *I* notice. The app very slowly shrinks then it chops and goes down into the small icon. It also stops moving very abruptly. After it stops moving abruptly, the wallpaper quits moving too.

Also the animation is screwed up when going into the app switcher. The app starts to go down (app to homescreen animation) then it jumps into the app switcher and it looks weird. The wallpaper can also be seen zooming in a weird way and then blurring into the background very strangely in the app switcher.

Also, it goes very linearly back to the position of the app icon where in the regular animation, there's a bit more of a rounding effect, it curves backward into the app where iPhone 7 devices just fly straight backward into the app.

The blur effect was on iPhone 6s devices only. Perhaps the newest iPads. The blurring effect was seen on the icons mostly and it was simply not present on older devices. Even my iPhone 6 (which handled blurring very well when I still had it) didn't have the effect. Same for my iPad mini 2. They simply dimmed the icons while they zoomed, just like how it is now. In one of the last betas of iOS 10 the blur effect on the icons during the animation was removed from ALL devices and it remains that way today.

Yeah I have noticed this too, the animation starts going extremely quick but it looks like total crap. iPhone 6s looks very smooth and natural but there is a noticeable delay from when you hit the button to when it actually starts zooming out to the homescreen. Even with the triple click accessibility shortcuts disabled.

False....

I just cant stand those random shutters, multitasking, app close animation and many others: notification bar, even Health app. This iOS, iPhone 7 combination is ugly. UGLY.

Get ready for the "My iPhone is buttery smooth, yours is defective!" Comment lol

On a serious note, I'm right there with ya, iOS sure isn't what it used to be!

Is the animation better on beta 7?
Not at all.
False....
Tell that to my iPad mini 2 which doesn't even start the animation by the time my iPhone 7 Plus is finished. The difference isn't that great between 6s and 7 but it still is DEFINITELY there, I've tested a family member's 6s right next to my 7 Plus a lot.

Yep lol. People who can't see the issues refuse to even acknowledge they're there at all.

Lol just give me iOS 6 butteriness and I'll quit crying :)

No dimming, the effect was removed completely, I believe it was removed in Beta 3, kinda sucked because the effect was kind of a replacement for the wallpaper zoom and fade to black from iOS 6.

I actually forgot about the gigantic delay for closing apps on iOS 10. It responds to the home button like "Wait you pressed the home button? Ok"

I still have it so I'm happy. :D
I definitely will agree that iOS isn't what it used to be. iOS 6 was way more inviting, not to mention it just kinda worked and was smooth and fast at the same time. Battery life is just fantastic on it too.

Haha right??

I just hate the janky animations on every device. These things are more than capable of rendering these things. It's just apple's rushed, sloppy, and inefficient code.

Yeah I miss iOS 6 from time to time, but I couldn't use it on a main device nowadays. I just want an iPad 4 and an iPhone 5 on iOS 6 Justin to look back sometimes, not to seriously use really.

And oh I didn't notice they totally got rid of the dimming effect as well. The icons still turn fade out and turn transparent at the very end of the animation though, I guess. But there is no dimming or blurring at all, you're right. I guess that's okay, my iPad mini 2 lagged so hard sometimes with the animations in early iOS 10 betas. Like 20fps animations when going into or leaving apps at times. And that was without the blurring (that ended up getting removed later on)

Using 6 as a daily is more than acceptable for me. iOS 6 still does everything I need my iPad to do and it really has helped me out quite a lot in the time that I've had this iPad.

iOS 10.2 is the same build as beta 7 (14c92).

Anyone tried on the official release?

I got my phone this past Saturday, and I also have the laggy animation. Also scrollling on some apps can be super laggy. Especially on the official Reddit app.

Hopefully 10.3 will be here soon to fix this annoying lag.
I agree! This final build of 10.2 is the worse yet as far as lagging animation. My work iPhone 6 and my Sons iPhone 6s Plus don't have this kind of lag. I'm starting to wonder if it really does have something to do with the new home button.

I think it definitely does. There is no delay between when you press it and when it activates the animation, unlike older devices where the animation is smoother but there's a delay. Certainly there's a way to do both I would think (and hope!)

What I find strange is that other builds like 10.1.1 had better animation that was almost on par with the 6s. 10.2 betas came along and it slowly went down hill.

They had to change the way the animation displays so that if you interrupted the animation mid-stream, it could recover and show you the proper result.

The animation starts by slowly zooming out the entire app screen, anticipating that you might double click, so that when the application switcher appears it will be more seamless, then about half-way through the animation, it fades into the app icon at a faster speed to make up for the slow start.

The way the other devices do animations is when you press the home button, it waits for a second press before doing ANYTHING, then if nothing happens, it does a completely different home animation where the app actually zoom-fades into a giant icon and shrinks until it's the same size as the rest of the icons. If Apple used this same animation for the 7, the app switcher would appear and they would somehow need to display the app screen instead of the giant zooming icon and that would be a much worse looking effect.
