The matte black will mark as much as the standard aluminium colours, it uses the same colouring processes. We just call it matte black to define it against the new Jet Black which has a piano gloss effect. Matte black is simply the new Space Grey, it's just a darker colour aluminium.

The Jet Black is a totally different story and I think that's what you're referring to. Apple has publicly stated that, basically, the Jet Black will smudge, mark and scratch incredibly easily and they recommend you use a case at all times if this is gonna bother you. The Jet Black models shown at the press preview were already scratched within an hour of being handled. Doesn't seem worth it in my opinion but for some people getting the 'new colour' is important to them. I just want a black iPhone and that happens to be a new colour this year. I bet if it were still Space Grey I'd be having a lot easier job finding one to reserve.

Its true, i had an operation at sheffield children's hospital, August 22nd 2008, to straighten my legs and it went wrong and i can't walk, and no need to apologise, i apologise too for being rude 🙂

So are 7+'s being made available to reserve for in store pickup? Every time I look it's just the 7 that will even let you check. Almost tempted to go queue.
 
Ordered a 7+ Black 256GB at 8h05am on the 9th because it was the earliest delivery window. A few hours later, couldn't justify waiting so long for the model I didn't want (I want the 128GB version), so decided to cancel.

My plan is now trying to get it from John Lewis either online, or at the store on the 16th (looks like we'll have to wait until 17th or even later to reserve via apple).

Also wanted to get the upgrade program initially, but looks like it's impossible to get an iPhone on release day so what's the point? Might as well buy it with my credit card at 0%. And paying for Apple Care + is ridiculous when you're only keeping the phone for 1 year, I get better deal with my free phone insurance (50GBP for any replacement even if it's lost).

All Apple support representatives are saying that there will be no iPhone available for walk in. Even if there are, I think it'll be madness and we'll have to wait hours. Got better things to do with my life than queue for a phone.

Hello. Been lurking since the start and have replied to a couple of comments but just thought I'd give my full sit rep.

Woke up early for the pre order, couldn't access the store until around 8:15 ... I'm based in West London BTW. I was able to wizz through the preorder process as I have all my details saved on autofill. The confirmation email came through around 8:18 for my iPhone 7 + 128gb in Black. When I first got to the site the dates were set to end of September. When the email confirmation came through it said between the 4-10th Oct and that hasn't changed since then.

I hoping that, seeing as the UK is one of the launch territories, we will see a large stock boost this week... I always seems like Apple way over estimates its deliveries in order to surprised and delight customers when products turn up early. I cannot see a situation where they don't have at least 10 million of these units produced already.

I think we will see a lot of positive changes this week... hold tight for America to wake up.

I have an iPhone 7+ Jet Black 128gb on preorder, email confirmation at 8.10.
