If you get it direct from Apple it will not lock to the first Sim. If it's not from Apple it will lock... and no it's not easy Only your carrier can unlock your iPhone.

The issue with direct from Apple is that my order won't come until 4th-10th October where as because very can't cancel that one will be delivered this Friday on launch day.

But I will want to sell he phone on next year when the next on is available so trying to weigh up what's best.

Send back a perfectly good iPhone on Friday because it will lock to a network but I can maybe get it unlocked for free or wait 4-5 weeks for the same phone

iPhones from very.co.uk DO NOT LOCK!

I think they've wanted to move away from the long overnight queuing images because over the past few years, it's gained a number of negatives which always get reported in the global press:

- There are people who us their queue positions for financial gain, selling the place to the highest bidder who comes along.
- Other businesses are using people queuing to advertise their own business.
- There are less Apple fans these days and more re-sellers looking to make a profit. You may remember there were reports of some unscrupulous Chinese mafia types at the Regent Street store who bused people in, then handed them wads of cash to buy two of each item, before they were collected back when they left the store.
- There have been reports of people being mugged etc while camping.
- As somebody else already pointed out, it's not great for other businesses and the councils who have to deal with all these people on the street.

Of course they want to generate hype for their product, but they also want them to go to people who really want to buy one and not have messy scenes outside their pristine stores.

I've said this elsewhere before, but there's no point in "expediting" your pre orders. All pre orders are shipped using a next day service and you won't get anymore than that. If people are paying for their status to change by a few days, then good on Apple for getting some extra cash in. I bet they'd all be getting their phone on those updates dates even if they didn't pay...
Totally agree!
8:05 confirmation for a black 128gb 7+ hasn't moved forward, for me. Still showing 27-29 September delivery.
It would be interesting to know what apple's system is regard dates moving forward, given that some people with later confirmation times have had theirs come forward.
Yea, there doesn't seem to be any link to location or order time! :(
Apple is probably following this thread, laughing their asses off.

And magically we'll all get it delivered on Friday....
I hope you are right :D I'd love my phone to be here on Friday!
This has just happened a second ago:

My delivery was showing 27-29sept and I knew the delivery would be bumped up to 20-22sept as I ordered mine at 8.05am on Friday, and people with later order dates have already begun to see their delivery date changed. (iPhone 7 plus 128gb black)

I am away on 19th until the 26th and I would miss the earlier delivery window, so I changed my delivery address to my work...

And what happened? The delivery has been updated by 7 days to 20-22sept!
Lucky, I wish mine would update!
Let's hope they are right, I'd be happy to be 'surprised and delighted' lol

I've just had my 128 7+ Black dispatch date bumped up!
It's gone from 27-29 to 20-22 :p:p
(email 8:06am)

I'm gutted to be honest, e-mail received at 8:03am and still got 27th-29th September estimate for my 7+ 128gb matte black. I live in Wolverhampton near Birmingham if that makes any difference.

Seriously don't worry. Yours will get bumped to 20-22 delivery date as well. Just be patient.

I'm trying to be realistic here: I have a dispatch of 6-8 business days and a delivery window of 27th-29th for the 7 Plus 256gb in Black. I had order confirmation at 8:03am. I expect the delivery window to jump forward this week and I'm sure Apple will do everything they can to get iPhones out to people who ordered early, but I doubt for most of us who actually ordered a proper iPhone with a realistic amount of storage (lol) to get our iPhones next week at the latest. All those who ordered a 32gb iPhone, how do you survive?!

Quite easily actually. I am very organised and particular with what is on my iPhone. I use iCloud Photo Stream for my photos so they are compressed, which saves space. I don't do much videos etc. I have had 16GB for the last four years with the 5 and the 6. Not done too badly but don't have much storage left now! Funnily enough, with the exception of my photos, it is Facebook that takes up most space.

But looking forward to having lots more storage with the 32GB upgrade! :D See how that goes, may move up to 128GB next year.

So I tried to cancel my very order but they are saying to too late even though I did it Saturday.
So the question is, is it that much of a nightmare to have a phone which locks to the first sim and getting it unlocked?

I am in the same boat. Have canceled on Saturday, but if it comes thats fine. I will keep it as this is the black one I wanted. I will get my silver on Friday from Apple. I had silver before so not bothered.

You can simply refuse to accept the delivery and it will go straight back.

Woohoo!

Just had a call from Apple in Austin, Texas to confirm my order. Payment is now showing as pending from my Halifax account. Shouldn't be long before it prepares for dispatch, I hope...

Don't forget, there's going to be A LOT of people who have their cards declined for one reason or another, Apple don't tend to contact these people quickly so they lose their order or it gets cancelled (previous experience, thankfully not an iPhone) MBNA are that used to me charging big amounts to the card now that they've as good as stopped declining things for security. Unless you go abroad and forget to tell them, then that can be annoying at the car rental desk!

Just looked at my account and nothing has changed on the phone side of things but my watch has got 'awaiting payment' on it! I'm guessing Halifax have blocked the payment so a long phone call to them after work I guess!

Can you not manually re-run the payment by going into the order status? When this happened on my watch strap it give me an option to retry/change cards automatically on the web?

Don't think they'll be ANY jet black pluses available on release day, still not seen any movement on mine:(

No and I think the carriers are going to have lots of them first. Due to problems getting into the Apple Store on Friday morning my order is due to deliver in 'November'. I have an upgrade order with EE for a 128gb Jet Black Plus and they are quoting within 21 days. Though others are being told by EE that they will get the Jet Black PLus on launch day!!
