I know Apple say they only give one year warranty but my experience was they actually give two, but only if you bought direct from them.
My iPhone 5 was losing charge very quickly and it was just under two years old, I had a 6 on order for release date and I would be passing the 5 on to my OH I wanted the battery issue fixed. So I took it into Covent a garden and said I need the battery replaced, the genius guy agreed and said yes that'll be £x I said OK then when he looked up my phone he said that actually as I had bought direct from Apple then it would be free as they effectively give a two year warranty for iPhones bought direct from them.
Just one isolated case I know.
