That's fine as long as I can get device unlocked. Read some online sites saying that Three and some providers don't unlock if phone not purchased from them :( quite a gamble I'll be taking but Apple store has a crazy long waiting time
Regarding EE's unlocking policy: if you buy an off-contract device from EE or their "indirect partners" - which I'm sure includes Carphone Warehouse! - they state here that they will unlock free of charge if you have a pay as you go account with them that's fully up to date. There is no requirement to wait 6 months. I would advise going to your nearest EE store and asking them to do it, I'm sure it will be very straightforward. In my experience EE unlocks take three working days.

Regarding Three: this is a grey area to me because if a phone is set to lock to its first network (like Carphone Warehouse phones are), and Three doesn't lock phones, then couldn't this happen:
  • Buy Carphone Warehouse phone
  • Insert Three SIM and wait 24 hours (this is how long the first-SIM lock can take)
  • Three doesn't lock phones so the phone remains in an unlocked state
  • Insert other SIM, e.g. EE
  • Phone becomes locked to EE
I'm not sure if that's how it works, but I would avoid the Three method for that reason. Most people advise buying phones from Three (or Giffgaff) because they sell them unlocked, but using a Three or Giffgaff SIM to effectively make a lock-to-first-SIM phone an unlocked phone seems like a risk to me - especially if the main network you use is one with a very awkward unlocking policy, like Vodafone!

I have a 7 in MB, will I be able to take it back to the Apple Store and exchange it a JB? I've checked my nearest store and they have one due for collection tomorrow.

Well took my silver iPhone 7 that I got on launch day to John Lewis for refund. Work mate got the Matt black and I just loved it. So returned tonight full refund without any issue, felt a bit bad doing it to be fair but had white for last few. Straight down to eldon square to collect 32gb Matt black , all done in half an hour and I love this one, looks so classy!!

I got my invoice today but according to UPS it hasn't left China yet. I give up, even though UPS tracking shows it in Korea.
Excitement has truly gone.....being one of the first to have the device etc. First time ordering directly from Apple. Appreciate everyone else is also doing the same but I expected a smoother slicker operation from Apple.

See, Eldon have a 128GB JB in to collect tomorrow and I'm debating swapping my MB but I don't want to go through the whole process of having to have the money be put back into my account and purchasing another one. If only it was as easy as it should be.

Thanks for the input. Will pop in the EE sim and start the unlock request ASAP tomorrow. If nothing happens within 14 days then I'm returning the phone.

Yeah chatting to guy tonight he said they had had a few JB in today, I just got refund on debit card, paid for new one on credit card which I will pay off when funds go back in from John Lewis

I'm really unsure what to do then. I might just stick with MB as it is pretty sick

I just ordered thru Carphone warehouse. Forced to take the 256GB 7 Plus as that was the only model in stock for tomorrow delivery. Paid thru my corporate AMEX. Anyone know if their credit checks are strict? I tried purchasing a B&W headphone last month and they rejected the purchase as it was thru a corporate AMEX.

Edit: Crap, I read that the CPW phones lock to first SIM inserted. I bought because I want to use SIMs from different countries that I travel to frequently (different regions). So what do I do now? Questions:

1. I am on EE. Assuming I get this phone, do I now have to call EE and get them to unlock the phone?
2. After unlocking, can I use it with SIMs from different countries?

Thanks.
Don't do it!! EE only unlock after 6 months. And they may refuse to unlock if they don't have a record of the phone which is very likely as it would be cpw stock

Reading this thread

and other similar ones on EE site gave me bit of confidence... Basically go thru PAYG route and request unlock.

Edit: good site for those in the same predicament : http://kenstechtips.com/index.php/apple-iphone-when-sim-free-doesnt-mean-unlocked

Im also on the same batch it seems. Sitting in Korea with UPS. According to the tracking it was last scanned in Korea on 03/10 and I had a delivery date of 05/10 but nothing came today. I emailed UPS for more info.

I originally had delivery date of 4-10th October (128GB PLUS JB)

For those still waiting for their jet black pluses, having used mine without a case for two days now it's definitely worth the wait and isn't the scratch magnet we were imagining them to be!

Good luck, I hope you get yours soon and see you next year
