If the phone is going to be put into a high quality case, I'm not sure if you would be able to hear it. But..if the sound is audible in videos, that may be a problem.
Yeah, I do have my phone in a case. Ive had the case on it from the time I took it out of the box and still has the sound.

Like you mentioned, the only reason i find it a problem is bc it is affecting videos.

I haven't received my 7 plus yet, I'm hoping I'm one of the lucky ones that don't have that problem. If so..not a lot you can do..there is a shortage of them.

Then there is a problem with the phone. Dammit Apple! Beta test your phones before going main stream to the public.
I hope I'm the lucky one without the problem. Time will tell when my phone arrives.

Yeah fingers crossed for you. Let me know how it goes. I did speak to apple and apprenly they do have phones for genius bar issues for replacements. They are new phones but just not in boxes etc. So they have that avail if there are issues. I have an apmt w them tomorrow and will test the replacement phone in store to see if it has an issue or not. Hopefully I can find one that is fine.

I'm going to contact my wireless carrier and ask them if there is a problem, make sure not to charge me ..Verizon.

Actually its a new Mosquito Repellant specifically to protect against the Zika virus.
That's some funny stuff there..
[doublepost=1474339409][/doublepost]Still on hold..with Verizon..dang. I have their recording memorized already. I just want to make sure that IF my 7 plus is affected and has to be replaced, I'm not going to be charged a monthly fee for a phone that I don't have. 15 mins and counting.

Well bummer. Add me to the list of hissers.. Picked up my iPhone 7 Plus - Back, 128GB on Verizon from the Apple Store today.

Got home, started loading all my apps and happened to notice it when I put the phone up to my ear.

Does anyone know if Apple is aware of this? I'm assuming they are..

Dang..that's the same model I ordered. Phone has not arrived yet..not till Oct 5. I'm sure Apple is aware. If they are I hope I'm one of the lucky ones that don't have that problem.

finally got off the phone with a Verizon rep..and he said they were not aware of any problems with the Iphone 7 plus hissing issues. But assured me that if there is a recall on the 7 plus, my account would not be charged for financing the phone and would re activate my 5s until the matter clears. I smell smoke being blown up an exit hole. We will see when my 7 plus arrives. X fingers.

But why would anyone press their ear to a phone? That's absurd :D

Funny that. Love it when the facetimers and the talk to the phone style users give you dirty ass looks when they say odd stuff when talking at their phone not by the head and you turn around all what did I just hear style. Or the stuff the other end is saying. And they do this by common areas for some reason. Want privacy...better ways to get that than "yelling" into a phone in a congested area.

give them a look back that says I wouldn't be hearing your conversation if you'd be using this like a phone and not talking loudly so anything in a 10 foot radius can hear it.

Not even nosey and such. Hell, from a wild concert youth, loud music systems (car and home) and factory work in the past and now getting older my hearing is not the most keen. I hear this stuff...it becomes a its not me its you issue. your volume has to be a bit high for me to hear it...at 10 feet especially.

Those of you with the issue, can your friends hear the noise on speaker and on earpiece?

I have 128GB 7+ Verizon version, I don't hear any excess noise in videos and no one has complained of noise after directly asking them.

I can hear some noise when I have my ear against the back of the phone (on the 6s too). I don't think this is an issue though, I can't hear any noises when I have the front against my ear.

Just checked my 6s plus. Makes noise too. True, slightly quieter, but the same noise is there regardless... Looks like everyone's a year or more late to #whatevergate. I bet if you check all the previous iPhone's you'll find the noise to varying degrees.

We're somewhere between #5 and #6. The sooner we get to #15 the better. :D

Here's the typical cycle for problems reported on Apple products:
  1. A few members post reports of the problem, report it to Apple
  2. No response from Apple
  3. Increased number of people report the issue
  4. No response from Apple
  5. Apple apologists dismiss the reports as very rare, the result of trolling, or exaggeration by drama queens
  6. Even more reports of the problem
  7. No response from Apple
  8. News of the problem hits blogs
  9. Apple apologists dismiss the blogs as simply engaging in clickbait
  10. No response from Apple
  11. Those affected by the issue threaten a class-action lawsuit
  12. Apple apologists decry the "sue happy" nature of American consumers
  13. Apple acknowledges the legitimacy of the problem
  14. Apple apologists are silent
  15. Apple release an update to correct the problem
or
15a. They set up a "program" to address the problem.
16a. Apple gains some positive publicity
17a. Apple apologists applaud Apple for doing the "right thing". (for an issue that they said from day-1 was not actually an issue)
18a. First hand experience with the “program” reveals very strict guidelines and restrictions that greatly reduce the number of affected customers that can participate in the program.
Made some adjustments:

  1. A few members post reports of the problem, report it to Apple
  2. No response from Apple
  3. Increased number of people report the issue
  4. No response from Apple
  5. Apple apologists dismiss the reports as very rare, the result of trolling, or exaggeration by drama queens / Apple Haters rant that Steve Jobs would never blah blah.
  6. Even more reports of the problem
  7. No response from Apple
  8. News of the problem hits blogs
  9. Apple apologists dismiss the blogs as simply engaging in clickbait / Apple haters go all doom and gloom about Apple and lack of quality blah blah blah...
  10. No response from Apple
  11. Those affected by the issue threaten a class-action lawsuit
  12. Apple apologists decry the "sue happy" nature of American consumers / Apple haters make demands for Tim to be fired or for them to be Hardware Engineers even though they know next to nothing about how to push out quality products.
  13. Apple acknowledges the legitimacy of the problem
  14. Apple apologists are silent / Apple haters take over the threads
  15. Apple release an update to correct the problem
or
15a. They set up a "program" to address the problem.
16a. Apple gains some positive publicity
17a. Apple apologists applaud Apple for doing the "right thing". (for an issue that they said from day-1 was not actually an issue) / Apple Haters are still displeased and demand Tim Cook's head on a stick.
18a. First hand experience with the “program” reveals very strict guidelines and restrictions that greatly reduce the number of affected customers that can participate in the program. / Apple Haters are even more angry.

Has this happened to you? Then walk into an apple store and have them take care of it.

Yes this has happened to me. I've been to the Apple store and they're placing an order for a replacement. it might be a week or so. No worries. It's a legitimate problem though.

Iphone 7 plus video:

Ipad Air 2 video:

Is that exposure jumping around part of the hissing problem? There's a lot of flashing going on.

Sounds like yours is in good shape then. It's very noticeable when you're on a call.

Mine is very noticeable and it only started after the upgrade to iOS 10. (Edit to say I have a 6S).

I took video in a pitch black closet. There's a static in the playback. Also, I noticed that when I was listening to a podcast over Bluetooth it started skipping, with a static-like sound that worsened if I did something with the phone like swipe or open an app. So processor power increased, caused some static type issue that interfered with the Bluetooth radio. Phone is getting replaced. Apple sending me a new one and I will return this one. If new unit has same issue then it's likely a design issue or software related.

Got the phone replaced today and the replacement phone has the same issue. I dont hear as much "hissing" when I place it to my ears. BUT when I record a video in a quite setting you definitely hear that hisisng or static noise. Used instagram to record a video and test it and it was much less noticeable. So maybe it is a software issue?

Well I just got my new iPhone 7+ and it hisses as well... can only hear it when i put it up to my ear though.... *sighs*

Did you try the video recording in a silent room? Any background static there?

Ps. Congrats on getting the phone!

I just spent a while speaking to a senior adviser. They are aware of the problem and the engineering team is currently trying to determine whether it is software or hardware related. They offered to replace my phone but said the replacement may experience the same issue until they determine the root cause, so it sounds like the best bet for now is to hang tight. They said it'd be 3-4 days before I'd hear back so I'll post an update when I know more.
